Excellent gym; great instruction and very welcoming atmosphere. Biggest complaint I have is that for evening classes there is very limited parking which makes it tough to find a spot for your car near the gym if you like going during evening hours.

Columbus ymca and community centers are much more worth your investment. These people wanted $200+ a month for 3 classes. Pathetically greedy.

I dont have any experince with this school but as 12 year practitioner of jiu jitsu the only thing i can say is a red flag os they do not allow no gi or open mat to everyone...you have to have 3 strips..this is a away to continue to take your money in hopes you stay long enough to buy that last strip or blue belt... Amd better assurance that the school has a win under there name there is a white belt division in all ibjjf tournaments..and its called open mat for a reason..the classes will benifits you if you put time in but if you roll challange your abilities and stay humble you can become much more..gracie ohio allows everyone to compeat roll do open mat and sit in with advanced classes, the potential there is great

Best training center I have ever been too. They have tons of different types of classes for all levels. No matter what your goals are or your current fitness level. On top of that, everyone is very helpful.

Very good gym. If you are experienced or just starting martial arts, there is something for you to like here. Trainers and coach are good and care about your progress. Glad I found

I started out here bringing my kids to classes, and they liked it so much I decided to give it a try myself!! Very beginner friendly, and the coaches are happy to work with you. I was nervous to try combats sports as a female, but training here has really built up my confidence. Would recommend checking it out!

Came here to take a women's self defense seminar before I started college. Loved the gym and the instructors too. Would recommend to anyone looking to learn a new skill and have fun doing it.

I signed up for my free week trial 5 days ago, and so far I really like this place. The facilities are well maintained, and every class I've done has had a very friendly and helpful coach. It's been a while since I've worked out consistently, but all the staff here are really happy to help me get back in the groove.

I visited from out of town and wanted to try a fitness class. I'm pushing 50 and I have a few extra lbs to lose so I was nervous about working out in a group, but I ended up having a great workout. Laura was very knowlegable and helpful, and I didn't feel out of place at all. Would recommend the beginner class to anyone looking to get into fitness.

The best gym in central Ohio. Period. They have many types of classes available for Adults and Children with world class coaches. Everybody is very friendly and they are committed to help you reach your goals be it fitness, learning a new martial art or become the best fighter you can be. Anybody interested should try it, they have a free week to explore the different classes and facility.

Edit: After receiving a very affable and courteous response from Laurah, I've rescinded my (rather scathing) review of the Vitor's teaching style. I believe in giving people a chance, so I'll just say this- learning BJJ can be intimidating at times and it's not a perfect gym, but the customer service is always on point and at the end of the day, it's probably the best place in town to learn the art.

As far as the 1-on-1 session, I greatly appreciate that. I'll sit on that idea for a bit and maybe take you guys up on it at a later date (I'll approach one of y'all in person). But this is the perfect response; local businesses should take note, that this is how customer service is done! I'm just not sure if I'm comfortable with it because it might foster bad relations and as it stands I'm kind of intimidated by Vitor anyway. I also have been diagnosed with social anxiety, so that's why I am on and off. I turn to BJJ for it treating it, hence my frustration with being verbally chastised for not getting it right away (or after 3-5 iterations; I don't think he's ever shown a technique 10x, but I get your point). But like I said, while he may be a hard ass, he knows his craft, which is why I still force myself to come despite being unsatisfied with a lot of my interactions with him.

I was thinking about cancelling my membership, but I'll give it a month and update my review, either up to 5 stars or down to 3 (not 2 because regardless, I'm impressed by your response). Either way, Thanks for taking the time to hear me out and taking into consideration my perspective.

One of the best places to train martial arts!

New to the area. Not new to MMA. Took my 15 yr old daughter to start training. Great staff, excellent facilities.

I attended this gym for a short few months, and can't leave long term viewpoints, but while I was there I was very pleased with the gym and classes. The instructors in Judo, Ji Jitsu and Muay Thai were all very welcoming and friendly, and very helpful in furthering my beginner skills. They have a good selection of weights (few machines) to lift with, and plenty of conditioning tools. Among the gyms that I looked at across a few cities I have lived in, Ronin offers an extremely good deal considering all the classes you get access to as well as the workout equipment. The lack of contract was also a plus as they don't need to rope you into commitments, they know customers will stick around.

I have been bringing my son here since August 2016. The instructors are very attentive with the kids and 1-1 instruction is applied when needed. The manager, Laurah, has been doing an outstanding job in getting this facility in tip top shape and making improvements as needed. All of the staff at Ronin are service oriented, friendly and outgoing. My son is learning a skill that will last a life time and he enjoys going everyday. I can probably say the same for the other kids in his class; everyone attends consistently. Ronin is highly recommended for anyone wanting to learn Brazilian jiu jitsu from Vitor Olivarez.

I've been training at Ronin for a few months now and I'm absolutely addicted to it. I'm studying BJJ and Muay Thai, and I occasionally get a workout in there. I've also started my older son in kids BJJ. I wanted to wait a few months before I reviewed. Below are a few high points of my experience at Ronin in no particular rank order.

1. Family atmosphere. Everyone there is welcoming and warm. I've been utterly shocked at how helpful and friendly everyone is, from the staff and trainers, to my fellow students. It's a tough thing to walk into a legit fight gym for the first time. It's also extremely humbling. My experience at Ronin so far in just a few short months has already positively impacted my mental health and the way I approach life. It's quite unbelievable.

2. World class instruction. BJJ is where I spend the most time. How truly lucky is Columbus, OH to have Vitor Oliveira, a world champion Jiu Jitsu competitor, teaching here? Vitor is a machine on the mats in competition and has dedicated his life to Jiu Jitsu. But he's also a fantastic coach. However, the culture he has instilled is what stands out to me the most. A fish out of water if what it feels like the first class you attend, but every single student of his has been welcoming to me, non-judgemental and extremely helpful. Everyone is truly interested in each others progression. Laurah Hallock, who manages the gym, is the only female black belt in Columbus, and she is also a fantastic instructor. For women considering BJJ, they have a womens only class once per week and the other classes are coed. BJJ is the ultimate equalizer to strength, so women considering self defense should consider it first and foremost before anything else.

For Muay Thai, Aaron Bogg's class has the same feel. Aaron has a knack for instruction and he's also serious about his students progress. He made me feel comfortable within 10 seconds of my first class. I'd love to have more time for Muay Thai. The same culture is prevalent in his class.

3. Kids BJJ. I've started my older son in kids BJJ and the instruction and class format for the little ones is perfect. If you want your kids to learn discipline, patience, impulse control and be able to truly defend themselves in this crazy world, look no further than Jiu Jitsu. They sort the class by age group, so the little ones don't get mixed in with the bigger kids. Sarah, Des, Sal and others do a great job keeping it fun with games and drills that develop important skills and knowledge at the same time.

They're putting in showers right now which is a bonus. They also have a weight training area, a boxing ring and an MMA ring. Boxing classes, Judo, Yoga, Kids Wrestling and a Ronin Fit class are also taught at Ronin.

If you have any doubt about where the best train, visit Ronin and see for yourself.

I was enrolled in the adult striking and bjj classes. The facility is well maintained, although I did not shower or use the lockers down stairs, the matts and equipment were also in decent shape. The instructors I worked with were very knowledgeable and I learned a lot. I would recommend this gym for the training. However, when working with their membership staff, they did not communicate clearly. I had recently moved and asked to cancel my membership several months ago. I was under the impression my account was closed and that there would be no more monthly charges. Months later, they then exlapaiend that it was just "frozen" and resumed charging me membership fees. When I called for a better understanding and to request a refund, they refused to refund my money. It has been over 4 months since I have been there and they were unwilling to resolve the issue. It's unfortunate that a place I enjoyed training at would treat a customer this way. I felt I was scammed and deceived. I expect this behavior from a large chain corporation such as Title Boxing or LA Fitness, but not from Ronin. Dissapointed.
