24-Hour Fitness in Horton Plaza is not well maintained and anyone that says that has never been to many gyms. The male locker room is constantly disgusting and the same disgusting things are seen in the same spots day after day. They have a monopoly downtown and they know they don't have to do anything to maintain business. The staff are nice people put in a bad situation, but this gym must be a health code violation. The members of this gym need to write reviews and tell them how unacceptable this service is at their gym. Don't blame the homeless. Clean your disgusting gym. Or don't let homeless enter. Unacceptable on any level of human business practice.
Best place for fitness.
Some people mentioned it was too crowded, etc, but I always had a nice workout and never felt it was overly crowded even during peak hours. The gym is on the smaller side, but in no way anywhere near as crowded as 24hr fitness on Potrero (and it is MUCH more clean)!!
I want to give on 24 Hour Fitness five star review because of one of the Personnel that I met there . His name is Edward he works at the downtown 24 Hour Fitness. He is so pleasant on the phone and in person. I see and talk to him generally at the front desk. He has a very genuine spirit that is felt every time I question or request any thing of him regarding this facility, be it negative or positive. He's at Downtown ( San Diego) 24 Hour Fitness location. On the phone and off, he's always pleasant with answering questions. He has a smile on his face and even through the phone you can just feel his awesomeness. I just had to give five star because of Edward the employee I don't know his last name but he is a great asset to that club..."Good job' comment to who ever hired him. "Great call boss'.
Downtown location is convenient for me. Good gym size with a lot of options and areas to workout. Don't come here if you expect to be greeted (I don't care about that). Only downside is this entire gym is filthy, I have to take two showers after. Both at home- I don't have the courage to use their showers. I've seen them take an open water hose and spray the entire bathroom down before...
The one star is for the "leadership" at this 24Hr Downtown which is my least favorite element; the petitte lady and the white guy with the facial hair, quasi bald head, prominent nose and glasses seem to frown on people of color. It seems as if they instantly stereotype you. The lady literally goes out of her way to pretend she doesn't see you because God forbid you may feel welcome if she greets you and the guy, the other day I had a question, the person at the desk went to let him know, (he was facing a computer), he turned (I guess to see who was asking) saw me and said he would come over shortly but after waiting a while and him continuing to stare at computer (all by himself), he never came and so I just told the girl I had to go, but would check again next time. Can't help but feel though, had I appeared Caucasian, he would've come over pronto and showed good Customer Service, as he's supposed to do (or should)
I mean ..I'm not someone who immediately claims discrimination, but all these times cannot be "coincidences" because this is not a first impression type thing, I've been a 24hr member and coming to this gym for a while, so the behavior is not new, I just keep returning because..going away would only make them happy and that's not an option; this is the closest to where I live and unfortunately "bad apples" are everywhere. Plus most of the junior employees are nicer (in spite of these two). So, yes keep making us feel unwelcome, but luckily, there are forums to let people know what's going on.
The club does not enforce the "no working out at multiple stations rule". You've got these clowns working out at multiple locations. You see an empty spot that looks open to use and some putz comes over and tells you he is using it. But he was working out at some other spot as well. B.S it is mine now and we have a fight on in your gym.

Sell you a 3 day pass then tell you you need to be a local at the gym. Wasted a journey in, they then try to upsell you a 50 dollar pass. AVOID these scammers. Staff were too busy on their phones to prove any kind of service

The club is one of the least crowded of all the 24 hr fitness in the area. All new equipment which is nice. No pool. Nice cool spin room. Plenty of room to jump rope. Convenient if you live downtown.

They put in new equipment recently which has improved this gym quite a bit. I don't find it too overly crowded in mid afternoon. Locker rooms could use a refresh.

Went there a few times . Lots of new equipment and the staff there was helpful . Although it is very small , they utilize the space very well.
Sauna and steam room semi clean this location is a downtown hub lots of people during transit. It's a convenient place if you live downtown otherwise you need to park at Horton plaza
I hate this gym. Their jacuzzi is always down. Always. I hate to give them 1-star due solely to their jacuzzi when I otherwise would give them 5 stars, but their jacuzzi is always down. I drive several miles strictly for the jacuzzi when I probably should have called in (since its no better than 50/50). Then, I park in the garage, walk into the gym and confirm with the front desk whether or not the hot tub is working. I work out at other gyms and only use this gym for its jacuzzi after a tough workout the night before. Front desk tells me: no the jacuzzi has been down for 2 days. Of course. I walk back to the parking garage, forget to validate my parking ticket since I didn't use the gym, and get into an argument with the parking clerk. This has happened to me a few times where I waste my time and gas to go to this gym with a broken jacuzzi. Very frustrating. The jacuzzi mechanic tells me there's nothing he can do, even though it's been like this for several years. Will 24hr fork up the money to install a new functional jacuzzi? Of course not. Will they keep charging you the same effing rates for membership? Absolutely. I don't know why they even have a jacuzzi when it's always down. To give the false illusion that they do have a jacuzzi? It's smoke and mirrors. There's a good minority of members who only use the gym for its jacuzzi since its still way cheaper than a day spa. For those people, this gym is absolutely useless. I know nothing will change because 24hr fitness doesn't care, but after today...I'm really giving up with this gym!

Yes close to home and work but way too small, I'm not in a sardine can and likey space.
Bad enough weirdos don't know their routine so walk around every ten seconds interrupting my work!
It is what it is damn, gotta visit other sites
This place is unsustainable, the floors in the men's bathroom are dirty.
The shower stalls have what looks like fungus.
And theirs always some kind of class to slow down or even stop your stretching.
Charges are unfair at times, and staff hide useful information from you, all ways trying squeeze and extra buck out.
You pay an agency. And half the time theirs no toiletries and the toilet gets stuffed and theirs escriment and piss water in the bathroom.
This gym has everything you need! The staff is amazing and the facility is extremely nice and welcoming! I believe were the best gym in San Diego.
It's... ok. There's decent quality equipment, but not much of it. Also, they have a hot tub, sauna and steam room (and pool...?) But they don't offer towels at the front (didn't know until I got there)
I use your service only 2month but they charge me whole year.so bad.you are lier.
Not clean . always playing trash rap music, over crowded. Too many snobs. I also cannot stand the blacks that workout there. Nice staff though
When I was exercising often this was the 24 hour fitness that I frequented. The facilities are well maintained and I like the layout. The only issue is the number of homeless that like to loiter. If they are members that's fine but I can tell it makes some of the other clients uncomfortable.
Great place to workout in the early morning hours.
Multiple homeless are coming here to kill time, take a shower, watch tv while sitting around. Locker room, showers and jacuzzy were dirty most of the the time. I did canceled my membership - top 3 works gyms i've ever been to.
Best gym ever. Most locations. Can't get any better.
It's dirty, they allowed a homeless woman to bring 2 dogs into the club and take a bath in the jacuzzi...dogs by her side. I mentioned this to the worker on duty...he said she had a membership and had an agreement to let her in. Management claimed they didn't know and thanked me for the info.
I told her(the mgr) she also was wiping up something wet on the floor... I didn't know what it was.
I'm sure the health department would want to know about this.
I am a 24 hour fitness member and I don't train at this gym because homeless use the lockers as storage. The showers are broken, the gym is dirty, really dirty. The second floor the machines and weights are ok, the staff is ok.
This location is so dirty and people don't even bother to wipe down after they use the equipment.
Really disappointed with this location. It's the only one that's close enough for me and it's always very dirty and run down. I tried to get a trial to check it out prior to joining but the Sales rep told me I couldn't because I was a member at a previous 24 hour in North County. The one I originally went to a year ago in La costa area was very different and really nice to go to.
Nice small clean location plenty of equipment for all your needs
They wouldn't know customer service if it smacked them in the face, or unless you're walking in to sign up! Don't waste you're time or money. Dingy atmosphere..
I don't like to rate thinks too poorly unless warranted. This gym is one of the less attractive 24 hours I've been to. It's small, but has a lot of the main equipment and is very unkempt. The gym is in dire need of a facelift. I belong to Boulevard fitness as well, which is very much a warehouse-type-feel gym but it is kept very clean and they're constantly adding new equipment. This gym has a grungy warehouse-type-feel to it with little-to-no maintenance. I'd recommend driving a little to the Point Loma 24 or even to the 24 on Balboa, this place is hardly worth going to.
The locker rooms are so so filthy and smelly. There is know excuse for how nasty this gym is.
