I love this gym and I love TRX.
First, Rebel Workout is a local ABQ business run by truly amazing people - Rosa and Ali are great instructors, giving just the right amount of encouragement, motivation, and persuasion. The extra care that they both bring to instruction makes workouts - even the hard oh-my-god-I'm-gonna-die workouts - remarkably enjoyable.
So why TRX? The TRX straps look very basic and you might mistake them for resistance bands, but TRX straps don't stretch. They allow you to use your own body weight as the resistance - which makes altering that resistance, either harder or easier - very natural and easy to do, fluid. This makes for an engaging and challenging workout for any fitness level.
The true beauty - insidious, evil, make-you-work-really-really-hard beauty - of TRX is that it provides an element of instability into your workout. Although there is debate of stable versus unstable surface training - an unstable surface tending to reduce the efficacy of a workout - TRX actually keeps you on a stable surface - generally either your feet or hands are stabilized on the floor - while utilising the straps provides a controlled level of instability. Why is this good? Because that instability forces your core into action. All The. Time.
This means that even ho-hum exercises like push-ups, which traditionally work very isolated muscles, now work multiple muscle groups.
I'll stop now. Suffice it to say: TRX is great. And TRX at Rebel Workout is AWESOME.
Thrown into the workout mix you also get Sandbells and Vipr Bars, which add additional elements into the workouts.
Rebel Workout also offers Body Rolling, which is essentially directed self-message using air-filled balls of various sizes and firmness and your own body weight to release tension from your muscles.
If you are looking for a great local ABQ gym to workout at once a week or a once a day that can help you get in shape, stay in shape, meet your fitness goals, Rebel Workout is the place.
