As many others have noted, the pool is there but nobody can use it because they refuse to repair the falling roof. It's now going on nearly 2 years in this condition and it's absolutely ridiculous. Other negatives; there is only one curl bar rack so if someone has made off with the weight you need your out of luck. Also the free weights are ancient and falling apart in some cases. Locker room stinks like mildew and wet dog, likely because they have the benches carpeted and seldom clean them. The lockers are tiny and can easily be broken into so don't bring any valuables... they won't be safe! Staff is very much into click groups so if your not into one of those... you will be invisible to them. Some of the cardio machines are in need of serious repair... i.e. hear monitor not working... etc... Only reason I still have a LA Fitness membership is because I travel a lot and can use other locations that are much better managed; especially the one's in Orange County... Alicia Pkwy & Crown Valley are much nicer! I may get a membership to another gym locally just to workout when I am at home and forgo dealing with this dumpy location. You would think after all the recent negative reviews management if not corporate would take note. I will add that one night a guy named Jake...big guy with a red shirt that had LA Fitness logo embroidered on the front was there re-racking weights that had been left on the floor... He caught two of the biggest offenders and had a talk with them about Gym Etiquette and their lack of... I loved it and told him so afterwards... sadly that was the last and only time I saw him at this location. 12/26/2017. Update: mercifully this location will close on the 26th of January - rest in peace LA Fitness San Carlos!
Very upset with this gym. They are closing without a local replacement. They have no concern for their customers in the East County. Don't waste your money.

I'm moving out if the area and went in a few days ago to cancel my membership. Front desk girl couldn't help. Apparently the only person that knows how to cancel ones membership is on maternity leave. A chubby personal trainer with a serious attitude told me I'd have to mail my request for a cancellation in to their corporate office. I went to their National City location and the atmosphere, the vibe, it was completely different. The staff was very friendly, and the club was far superior (including a pool you could actually swim in). They happily cancelled my membership in a few minutes time. Had I know this about the National City LA Fitness a year ago, I would have gladly driven the six miles out of my way, to avoid going to the Navajo Rd. dump.

Straight forward. Could use an update aesthetically but the machines and equipment are always in working order except for the pool of course which is closed indefinitely.
As far as commercial gyms go I was impressed.
They have older hammer strength equipment that looks new. Very well maintained and very nice gym overall.
I really like this gym. There is a big variety of equipment and it is nicely spread out. The ladies locker room is always fairly clean. The best part is the spin class. Jennifer is an awesome instructor and she is inspires me to do my best. I have really enjoyed her workouts.
This is a small LA Fitness but the staff are pleasant and others working out are friendly giving this place a comfortable environment and setting.
This gym WAS a very friendly and relaxing place for me to go after work. But the new management changed that. The lead "sales man" only talks to me to publicly harass me. When he sees me around the gym he pretends not to see me and ignores me when I say hello. Very rude and unprofessional for someone who has been in he business as long as he says he has. Maybe that's why he's still working the floor after 20 years. I would recommend going to another LA club or 24.
Then he made it nearly impossible to sign my girlfriend up for a guest pass. The reason I'm writing this is because he treated me like trash and that's one thing. It's annoying. But the lead salesman made my girlfriend so uncomfortable she ended up getting a membership at 24 hour instead. This bums me out. I have seen him give her dirty looks during Her workouts. If you and your girlfriend are looking to workout together then don't come here!
Just two weeks ago him and another employee came and cornered me in the weight room and tried to use a scare tactic I guess? The lead salesman is very very "tough" when he's mad but shows no back bone when he sees me any other time. Avoiding all eye contact or recognition. Also very dishonest. He told me a membership five years ago was $7 a month.... right dude lol. Well avoid this location. My girlfriend and I work out a 24 or at home and it's so much less stressful simply because he's not there glaring at us from his desk.

Good sauna, employees are nice, and you never have to fight over a machine or space.

Up until about 8 months ago I would have given this gym 4 or 5 stars. I've been a member for most of the last 10 years. BUT, there's been a problem with the ceiling in the pool area since last spring (spring 2016) and they started a lawsuit with the building owner which has, of course, gone on for all these months. Now it's being decided by the judge. Whatever the outcome, it all should be irrelevant to the members. LA Fitness should have fixed the ceiling and then sued for reimbursement, if that turns out to be appropriate. Instead, the members have been the ones to suffer all these months without a pool and thereby getting only half of the services we're paying for. I consider this to be totally unprofessional, irresponsible and disrespectful to their members. There's never been any offer of some sort of compensation, other than to say members can use other LA Fitness facilities. Great, who's paying for the gas to drive back and forth, only to deal with larger than normal crowds because of the San Carlos pool being closed? Terrible way to run a business.
