I wish there were 10 stars to give, this gym is AMAZING. My only workout before the shoppe was running, and although it was tough, I didn't get to push myself to meet new challenges & goals. Julie, the owner, and all of the other instructors are amazing. There will be a room of 25 + women, and Julie will make you feel like it is just you and her. Her ability to reach all the members and engage with us all is simply incredible. She will correct you in the moment to prevent injuries and pain. Her knowledge & explainations on the human body are truly remarkable and it makes me feel safe as well as empowered to learn more about my body and the proper way to workout. She is an uplifting, challenging, and loving woman who makes me and all the other women feel strong, motiviated and eager to continue challenging ourselves. If you are scared of gyms (like I was) but really want to make a difference in your overall health, THE SHOPPE IS FOR YOU! The members are welcoming and motiviating (I am 23 and there are 75 year old women who kick my butt in workouts, how awesome!!!!). It has changed my whole perspecitive and I can now say I am living a much healthier life. Thank you Julie & all the other amazing, kick-butt women at the Shape Up Shoppe. Check them out, you won't be disapointed.
They are all so supportive and such a great group to work-out with. I absolutely love it there! :)
I recently joined this gym and it was the best decision I have ever made. The members are INSANELY welcoming. Julie, the owner, is incredibly knowledgable, supportive, and motivating. I came in with an injury and she took the time to come up with a plan that still allows me a full body workout while healing at the same time. She puts so much of her time into each individual person. The classes are hard and they should be. If you want results this is absolutely the place you need to be. The price for this gym and everything it offers is the best in Milwaukee, hands down.
I joined this club a few years ago, I ended up getting hurt on one of the machines during a class (I was hurt quite badly, bleeding and ended up needing care by a dr) and all they had to offer for first aide was a cold can of Coors Light.

I can't even give a star....the only reason for one star was so I could post this. I was extremely disappointed in this place. The owner, I think her name is Julie, was very short and VERY rude. She told me to call her, leave a voicemail and she would call me back. I waited a few days and she finally called. The voicemail she left me was just down right rude. I would expect more out of mom and pop joint. That's why you go to them, because they are more personable. She is NOT. And I will make sure that I let my friends know as well. We will be looking elsewhere.
Have only experienced the cardio classes so far, but there are intense! Your heart rate will be up there and the staff will make sure you're not falling behind. They keep you motivated.
The Shape Up Shoppe is an incredibly warm and inviting atmosphere! The owner is personable and attentive and she has worked hard to create a culture of inclusion here. Classes are fun, the facility is well taken care of and clean, and Julie and the Shape Up Shoppe are a Bay View gem!
I was very disappointed. When I went in to check the place out the class looked interesting. The lady leading the class was nice and had me leave a phone number for someone to call me and tell me more. A few days went by. Nobody called so I left a message on voicemail at the gym. Around the time I put the kids to bed a woman called. She was short to the point of being rude and unprofessional. Not only had she called very late but, she made it very clear phone conversation was not in her job description. She pretty much demanded I go online and make an appointment. When I told her I am not very computer literate, which I'm not, she was extremely short and impatient with me. The called ended when she pretty much told me I'd get a consultation where I'd be expected to join right away and pay her first and last months gym fees for four months. After that she pretty much hung up on me.
I'll be perfectly honest and say the vast majority of gym websites confuse me. I generally rely on face to face or phone conversation to pick a gym. If a person is horrible to you during either you know that place is not for you. Since I have a few health issues and need a place to work out do I don't spend more time than I want to in the hospital being poked by a team of specialists I don't put up with much attitude. I get enough of that from my kids of whom there are many and are mostly teenagers.
For a small place with some decent potential bad customer service really won't make them more popular. The saddest part is I think the nasty person that called must have been the owner. It looks like I'll be asking my physical therapists were they like to work out.
I love the Shape Up Shoppe! I have never been able to get myself into regular exercise. I had gone to a few gyms, had personal trainers, but nothing really motivated me. A friend of mine joined the Shoppe and I decided to give it a try and now I'm going at least 3 times a week!
So, it's more classes than machines. They have machines and weights, but their cardio classes are really the focus. They also have boxing, slide class, and other classes that change throughout the year. I love the cardio class! It's usually 45 minutes to an hour. The owner, Julie, is really helpful with any questions and regularly checks to make sure you are doing the moves safely, and also gives lots of good advice on eating right. I have lost 20 pounds since starting a few months ago! Everyone who works there is equally as helpful. It's really fun to be in an environment with all women too so I don't have to be concerned about things like my underwear showing or not shaving my armpits, haha. Everyone is very supportive too, and we celebrate people's birthdays and have parties every once in a while.
I recommend it to everyone! If you're like me and have a hard time motivating you should try it out.
