I stumbled on Racestart Training while looking for a gym and trainer to help me prep for the firefighting CPAT back in March. I chose to go with Racestart based on 3 things: 1) it was one of the top 5 gyms in Milwaukee (#3 in 2017 on cityvoter) 2) it had consistent 5 stars rating on Google and 3) an honest and informative website where I got some insight on the kind of gym Racestart was and the owner/coaches by reading up on the blog.
It was also nice that there was a deal on Groupon so I could check out the gym, but honestly after getting in touch with the owner, Antonette, I was sold and excited to train with her.
I was impressed that on our first day meeting, Antonette had done homework on the CPAT as it's a very specific circuit course and had exercises all set up. Her excitement to train me motivated me in turn, and that helped me to stay positive/moving in the next 2-3 months that I was there.
I had personal training 3x/week and joined the group classes about 2x/week additionally. Everyday was something different and that was great! It was definitely hard work and I'm not a physically active person by any means, but seeing how my body transformed with the workout and with better nutrition (in trying out the cleanse program), it was just amazing! It opened my eyes to how amazing and strong my body can be and I can say that I developed an appreciation for lifting (love backsquats!).
But Racestart is not just a place to get physically fit. Meeting with Antonette, it was like having a girlfriend you could talk to about about life while working out.
What I love about her aside that she's a great trainer is that it was OK for me to be human around her and at the gym. There is that maintained professional relationship as my trainer yes, but when life got me down unexpectedly, she proved to be such a supporting and generous individual, I was so overwhelmed and humbled by her. I never met a business owner who was honestly FOR her athletes and who cared about them.
I'm only sad that I had to leave the gym due to circumstances and a move to the west coast, but honestly if you are looking for a full package experience at a non traditional gym, GO TO RACESTART. You won't regret it and even if it doesn't end up being your gym, there's genuine everything there: genuine coaches, genuine training and genuine community. You'll have some definite genuine postivity from having trained with Antonette and Racestart! :) I know I have definitely been blessed by them!
