I am writing this hoping that some other unsuspecting victim isn't taken by the schemes of this business. I lost $60 in hidden fees to this company.
I had a year gym membership at French Riviera Fitness Poplar location in Memphis, TN that renewed each month after the year was up. It was ONLY for that location. A year later it shuts down. Conveniently, there is a clause in the contract that says in case of location closing, gym membership gets transferred to another location within 15 miles or contract ends. So I call the location that is within 15 miles to see how to end my membership since a year had gone by and the location I was close to shut down. They say to call a third party gym payment company. I do. The lady was helpful and told me to send an email asking to end my contract. I do. I get a reply 5 days later. Apparently, whenever I end the gym membership it counts as "canceling" so I get charged $25 fee (It is in the contract). I also conveniently get a reply 5 days later which means that they have now received my request less than 30 days before the next charge so I get charged $19.98 for the next month even though I requested 31 days before I would have got charged. Then I also get charged a $15 Biannual Gym service fee that I would not have been charged had they processed the email when I sent it.
All of these charges were within the contract. And that my friends is how you get charged with hidden fees. Avoid French Riviera Fitness like the plague.
