Tons of space at this gym. Plenty of racks, barbells, and cardio equipment to go around. Friendly staff. Definitely would recommend this gym

Pivotal recently acquired O2 fitness location I had been attending. Before I even knew they had been acquired, I requested O2 to cancel my membership. My membership still transferred over to Pivotal anyway. I called pivotal and told them what happened and they ensured me they would cancel my membership and I would not be charged. Come first of the month, they withdrew monthly fee and now they do not pick up the phone nor answer voicemails. How on Earth do I stop getting charged for a gym I never even signed up for?!?

Pivotal Fitness of Mount P is a great gym with a nice open area for free weights and many machines. The upper track is sizeable and has another open area along with treadmills, stair climbers, and bikes. The staff have been great, especially Zack who is rich in knowledge of weight training and fitness in general. He, along with the trainers, are very professional and friendly.

I'd signed up for a free trial of O2 before I knew Pivotal bought them out. Could not initiate free trial right away - guy for O2 says no problem, come in at your convenience. Well I did that but I guess Pivotal had taken over and would not honor any type of trial or let me work out to test the waters. Expected me to drop $1000 and sign up for a year and would not even let me try the gym out. Definitely not happening nor will I ever join after that interaction.

Renewed my membership at this location. Laura and her staff were incredibly nice and friendly. This is probably my first ever google review but I thought it was worth it.

I gave this business a one because I did not know how to give it a zero, In the summer of 2018 they offered me a special price of $500 for ten training sessions. I was spending the summer in New York and told the person who was trying to sell me that package that I was having a problem with my back and legs and I did not think I could make use of the training sessions. He told me to buy it since it was such a good deal, and if I could not use it I could get my money back. I could not use it. Sending a letter to them, sending an email to them, telephoning them and visiting them did no good. I had to take them to court. The Magistrate ruled in favor of me and I finally got my money. If you use this gym you deserve anything that happens to you.

DISHONEST, SHADY BILLING PRACTICES. BE WARNED!!! Had spinal injury due to an accident. Provided them the needed medical records to freeze my membership which went in to effect. With no prior notice the gym changed their billing company. The new billing company does not honor the freezing of the membership and continues to charge my card while I am still in physical therapy and receiving cotizone injections. BE FOREWARNED OF THEIR FINANCIAL PRACTICES!!!

This review is for Mt. Pleasant only, I've never been to the W. Ash one. If you're shopping around it's worth a look, but keep shopping.

The woman who signed me up was very kind, but I haven't seen her since the month I joined. I haven't had any interaction with any other employees other than an occasional hello or goodbye from a select few at the front desk. I dont even know the managers names.

I dont use child care here because its pricey, so I can't speak on it. I also dont take classes (extra $10 each). I've heard redzone is great ($30 extra).

My biggest complaint is one that is repeated throughout recent reviews: its dirty and not well maintained.

What sparked this lengthy review was the 'last straw' of the womens bathroom sign. WTH?? A month or so ago the sign read closed from 2:30-3, well I wasnt changing so I went in to put my bag away. There was a man sitting on the couch and appeared to be fixing a soap dispenser. He told me they were closing the bathroom daily for repairs. Okay, great. But EVERY DAY??? I'm no gym manager, but wouldn't it be possible to do ALL repairs in a day or two AFTER hours? And why say "cleaning" when there was clearly no cleaning going on. Hmmm...
The restroom they suggest ALL the women use is a unisex bathroom by Redzone. One bathroom, it was beyond filthy the only time I used it, no place to set your things other than the dirty floor, so if women are expected to change in there they should have excellent balance.
What's wrong with the female cleaners I've seen? They shouldn't need to completely close a restroom, especially for an HOUR!

This morning (I'm writing this on the stairmaster) I get here at 5:30am and notice the sign now says closed from 2-3pm for cleaning!! One whole hour women are expected to NOT use the facilities, can't put their belongings away, change out of workcl othes, shower, etc. We are literally paying to NOT use what we're paying for.

All pics I attach (if allowed) are from 5:30am on a Monday. You would think a gym that closes early on Sunday and probably hasn't seen more than a member or two would be sparkling. Right? Definitely wrong.
Trash all over two counters. Sinks have not been cleaned. Hair ties on shower floors. Again, 5:30am. I have to shower here before work and I usually grab paper towels to grab chunks of hair and to set my stuff on the little ledge. Yuck.

The repairs that were supposedly being done are worth it right? One sink hasn't had a handle in months. Apparently ALL soap dispensers are broken because there's bottles of soap at sinks. One shower has had an out of order sign since I joined 5 months ago. Paper towels are consistently out in restroom and throughout the gym.

I've never been in the mensroom but I hear it's way worse. No shower curtains. Broken showers, theres an actual futon in there! Sanitary?? Gross.

It's not all bad! The functional area is spacious enough. Most members rerack their weights so it's usually tidy. And I mean, it's a gym, not a spa. Gets the job done. Its lightyears better than O2 (all locations, even Ginormpus Park West).

With Crunch opening today and Golds coming soon, there are (better?) options.

They charge the most money in Mt Pleasant, yet their gym is the dirtiest. They don't clean the equipment or repair worn equipment. They rarely re-stock the paper towels or hand sanitizer. Then you go to cancel and they of course make it difficult to do so.

I would not sign up for yearly until you have tried this place a while. The sales people will be very accomodating to get you to sign up for the year don't do it!!!! Try it first I wish I had. The cross training classes they offer cost extra and are not up to par with what I have experienced elsewhere.. The equipment too I found dirty, cheap or out of date. Its a corporate run membership so there is no getting out of it. Much better options for gyms in the area!! Try others!!

**WARNING**ABSOLUTE NIGHTMARE. This place is fine until you try and cancel your membership and that's when their shady business practices kick-in. My wife had to cancel her membership THREE times yet they still kept charging our credit card. Literally every person she spoke with blamed someone who wasn't there and we never received a returned phone call until I left nasty reviews everywhere. That's what it took to receive our refund and that's really unfortunate. They've also asked me to remove my reviews. I've removed the names, but the review stays.

The staff are all lovely and really helpful but the gym is so unclean, its very worrying as in such an environment it is imperitive to keep everything sanitized to prevent the spread of bacteria and fungus.. The floors and mats are full of dust and balls of fluff and hair everywhere. Prity gross

A pleasing gym, in my opinion.

I visited Pivotal Fitness lately, on a three-day pass while shopping around for a gym in the Charleston area, and my experience was fully positive. The attendant was friendly and professional, and I found the gym clean and comfortable (as well as huge - rooms and rooms, with plenty of space to do your thing). The equipment was equally impressive, with about any machine and free weight and cardio apparatus imaginable, and all other manner of training gear. The men's locker room, too, was roomy and well maintained. Really, the only thing they didn't have (that I wanted, anyway) was a sauna of some fashion; and, of course, this was just personal preference.

All in all, I had no problems here, and though I'm still undecided on where to join, Pivotal remains a candidate.

Big thanks to everybody at this gym. Keep up the good work :D

In town for work and i was familiar with the old Eco gym that used to be there so I went to work out. EXPENSIVE!!! I travel for work all the time and I've never had anyone charge me so much. $20 a day. $10 bucks is typical. Then if I'm here for any length of time and I get a month to month it's $64 a month. When I told the young lady that I might need to look somewhere else she said "yes, you should". But paid and for my workout in. Won't return.

Looks like they are trying to turn things around for the better. Only issue is that $50 a month is steep (it's even more expensive if you don't pay 12 months in full up front!) if all you want to do is squats and pull-ups. They include some yoga and group classes in that membership but offer nothing cheaper for simple use of weights and a rowing machine or treadmill.

No complaints besides pricing however.

One of the most expensive guest memberships I have ever experienced for a very average gym. The girl at the desk was rude and did not offer military discounts. I would never recommend this gym to anyone in the Charleston or Mt pleasant area. Terrible experience.

October 25, 2017 11:51

Pretty pricey and when you go to buy your membership (as I did) they spring a $99 enrollment fee on you that they don't tell you about. Nice gym but should be more upfront.

October 25, 2017 11:51

I use this gym only out of convenience and in spite of the absolutely atrocious customer service. They would be better served to create a keyless entry for customers and eliminate the front desk staff entirely.
