Clean facility. Plenty of access to machines/equipment, & the workout area has the most open space that I've ever seen in a gym. It looks like a big warehouse w/ huge mirrors that basically span from floor to ceiling. Plus, the entire staff was extremely nice and supportive my during my ~16 months of working out there.

I never really write reviews, but after my experience yesterday, I figured that I'd share with anyone looking for their next fitness center.

I was having some financial struggles, and unfortunately had to cancel my membership. I ended up talking with Nate at the front desk, and he was very matter-of-fact about the contract stipulations. However, after working with him for about 10 minutes (all while he was patiently empathizing with my hopeless frustration), he not only came up with a few solutions for my situation, but went above and beyond & contacted the corporate office on my behalf. He ended up sorting it all out himself, and then he personally reached out to me to let me know that everything was taken care of in the best way possible.

I'm currently not in the financial position to afford a gym membership, but I would go back to that gym in a heartbeat after dealing with such an accommodating staff.

I like the gym but the membership recruiter, Nate is difficult to work with. Be sure you get a printed copy of your membership at sign up or he will not honor your agreement. He had my membership expire 3 months before it was supposed to since our deal wasn't written down. He then tried to offer me the same deal atoning like he was doing me a favor. They need a new recruiter. The ladies in the daycare are the best I've ever seen. They're like magic with my kids and always got my baby to sleep and kept her happy so I wasn't stressed when working out. They made it worth it!

a great gym they got every machine you can possibly think of even a sissy squat assist. Tons of cardio machines, a dark cardio room, two different yoga / training rooms, you'll have a great time working out here. Staff is very short on weekends but don't worry they're very helpful and friendly it can answer any questions you have. Definitely in a great spot and a great place to work out

Decent place to work out. Beware of contracts because they are very difficult to stop regardless of reason.

I have been a member of pivotal fitness for 13 years, and for the last 3 to 4 years the West Ashley facility has been free falling into the crapper. Additionally, to be a member of a gym that constantly refers you to an unknown management somewhere in outerspace, for complaints or issues, a growing practice of being impersonal with business these days, is absolutely frustrating . Sorry to leave after so many years but had enough!

The trainers are jokes. They allow anyone to be a "trainer", certified or not. They are wayyy over priced and are not helpful with goals. They are pretty much there to get paid. I enjoyed the RedZone classes, but you have to have the most expensive package to participate. Overall, I would have given a much better rating, but they started using a company called Peak Payment for thier billing, and they are FRAUDS. I tried to cancel my membership for several months, and even confirmed they were getting my notice, but they continued to charge my account. I paid my account off several times, and magically I kept getting fees and my balance only went UP! The gym staff and manager were no help because they don't do their own billing. Save yourself and you wallet and find another gym in the area.

I joined the gym and was told that my cancelation fee would be a 20$ charge.
I was also told that any add-on could cancel with one month notice and no additional charge.
Now, a few months later, their sales rep. who signed us up is gone; we aren't being released from the contract without paying 250$...the gym membership itself was only 240$+20$ annual fee!!!!!!!!
The treatment and management is bad...the equipment is old and not repaired.
Anyone wanting to see emails of the sales reps promises just pm me

I have moved around a good deal and thus have belonged to many gyms not only here in Charleston but also around the U.S. Pivotal Fitness West Ashley ranks pretty middle of the road as far as facilities and 'actual gym'. They have a good amount of weights, machines, and aerobic equipment and most of it is working/up to date.

The problem that I see, like many other reviews (see below), is with the inability to reach their managers and with their payment service (Peak Payment).
-With their managers, I have called and spoke with the front desk on 5 separate occasions over the span of fewer than 2 weeks. Each time, the manager was not in or 'unavailable' and I was told that they would call back or call when they got in. This has yet to happen and I do not think it will. Terrible customer service.
-With Peak Payment, they are better in that they always answer the phone, but terrible in the fact they never solve any problems or provide solutions. If you do get an answer, it goes along these lines: "That is what we can offer you but nothing else because that is what the club is telling us, Sorry".
In any event, the gym is adequate, moderately priced, and in the norm for cleanliness. Beyond that, I would not recommend it in the slightest.

**I have not used personal training or daycare or RedZone, so please do not apply the above comments onto those entities. From what I hear, they are above average in what they do.**

I have been going to this Gym for several years and have very much enjoyed it. Great people and amazing staff. I am in the process of leaving Charleston and really hate leaving this gym. What I like most about this gym is! the diversity of the people that go there, the trainer's instruct people of all ages and fitness level. Whether your a person who is overweight or someone like myself in my late 50s, they have the program for you. I am now in one of the best shapes in my life. On top of that, the prices are very reasonable . I had a slight problem when my account was charged for a extra 3 months of personal training sessions . I went to Nate, the manager. He has taken care of the problem and confirmed a refund on my account . Now that's good service. A big Thank you go out to Nate, Fred , Brandon ,Mike and Johnny at Pivotal Fitness West Ashley . Great job guys and of course not forgetting the wonderful ladies that work there, thank you for all your kindness and laughter.

The manager signed me up for a membership while touring. I called back and cancelled the same day. He had told me that everything was taken care of and I would not be charged. Nobody told me that I would have to provide 30 days notice of cancellation to Peak Pay, the third party who handles payments. The manager neglected to note the account of what he had told me over the phone; so now I look like the liar. DO NOT FALL FOR THESE SCAMMERS! I called Peak Pay and told them the situation. The only way to get out of the contract is a buyout of the contract. $250. Nobody told me about these things when I signed up or when I had called to cancel that same day!

This gym was great for working out with weight machines and treadmills. It is a bit overpriced for these services. After belonging to the gym twice, I have found it extremely difficult to get out of a contract; even though the contract had expired. The third party payment service (Peak Payment Solutions) is a nightmare. Good luck canceling with this group. They are rude and their website is ineffective and hard to maneuver. I would recommend another service.

A heckuva gym.

After visiting the Mt. Pleasant location of Pivotal recently, I dropped in here for a day pass while in Charleston for the afternoon, and this wing proved to be as good as its sibling. Friendly staff, a nice big locker room, a clean facility, all the weights and equipment you could ask for - Pivotal is a good, well-rounded gym, in my opinion. Also, reasonable rates on day passes. I had myself a great workout, and left satisfied and refreshed.

So, thanks to everybody who makes this place happen. Keep up the good work :D

Pros: Lots of equipment and classes. Childcare available. Big facility.
Cons: More expensive than some other gyms, especially if you want anything more than a basic membership. Not at all beginner-friendly. Locked into a year-long contract that restarts with any membership changes. Expensive to cancel (we're talking $100+ minimum fee. My fees would cost $700 because of the add-ons in my contract that can't be cancelled). If you don't want cancellation fees, you better be dead or moving far away, because they have clauses in the contract to keep you trapped even if you have medical reasons to stop going. The building is dirty and dim, with the exception of the class rooms. Customer service is impossible to get once you sign up, and you have to go there in person to get any questions answered.
Bottom line: I recommend shopping around before signing anything. It might be the place for you if you have a regular habit of going to the gym and are looking for a place to push you further. But if you're looking for a good place to get started, I don't recommend here.

Lobby floor is soaking wet no rugs, bathroom toilets leak, water all over sink counter, no fans, it's very hot, no greeting from employees when you arrive. Used to live in Summerville and went to that one. Loved it it was roomy cool nice employees clean. The West ashley branch falls short of Summerville standards by far.

Huge open gym. Equipment is nice and clean. Boxing area too.

I am super picky about gym equipment being clean and not once have I felt like this was a 'dirty' facility like some of the previous reviews state. Great equipment, great workout atmosphere, and great employees. Sometimes the clientele can be intimidating; you just have to get used to it!

These negative reviewing people are rating the gym on individual experiences with management. I'm rating solely on going in and working out.

A lot of people are arguing about the cleanliness. I give it 3/5 stars. Although I'm not risk evaluator, I don't ever remember being worried about my safety. I traditionally lift @ hardcore gyms, and the quality of equipment that's usually there is no bueno lol nonetheless we are stacking and slamming weights on dingy rubber mats.
This gym has an MMA Octagon!
Multiple punching bags & a speed bag! This gym has a turf path with weight tires and other crazy equipment I've only seen at collegiate/pro level athletic facilities. This gym has every piece of equipment I need to hit every single part of my body, one of the best gyms I've been a member with. This gym is packed with equipment. The only thing I don't like is that its not 24hours. I used to have a membership with 24hr fitness and sometimes on restless nights I'd just hit the gym at midnight, with this gym I can't do that.

Consider adding Lauren Kirby to the list of duct tape, super glue and WD-40. She is an amazing personal trainer!

October 25, 2017 11:49

Lots of cardiovascular equipment and circuits but I always feel like I'm waiting for the cables or stair stepper. Friendly staff and awesome childcare. Affordable if just getting basic membership. Cancelled membership recently due to moving too far away to make it to gym frequent enough to be worth it. Equipment not the newest but gets the job done. I do not have recent experience with the classes but I have heard good things. My personal training experience was pricey but a good work out. I wish there was more lifestyle and nutrition advise and data collected to help gage progress.

October 25, 2017 11:49

Probably the best gym in town for meat heads. Everything you need for power lifting and or bodybuilding. No rules against chalk or loud noises although they could do a better job enforcing some rules on throwing weights and reracking. It's not too crowded during off hours but as per the usual its packed during prime time.
