An ok gym when everything is working. First off, many cardio machines are broken and remain broken for a really long time (months even). And a lot of their TVs don't work. Elsewhere it feels really cramped and you kind of have to walk through other people's personal sessions to get to the locker rooms. The lockers themselves are really poorly laid out, and I frequently had to stand uncomfortably close to people just to get my stuff. The staff here is great and just doing their job, but I had a really tough time canceling. They gave me so much conflicting information, and they kept charging me even when I canceled. I had to go in twice to make sure that my account was done. My experience here was fine for a while, but then it became annoying. There really aren't tons of gyms in the area, so for many this is the only option. But as their fees just jumped up a lot, you should really put your money elsewhere.

Save your time and money. If you decide to cancel the membership please make sure to save the cancelation form. The staff is disorganize and they misplaced my cancelation form and never put it in the system. Now I have to pay for their negligence.

The gym is small and crowed.

The gym and entire building where this is located has been CLOSED due to Health Issues. Can NYSC please provide more info?

I have updated my rating. The club has been very responsive in addressing the issue. Thanks for that, folks.

Great staff as soon as you walk in they always smile and greet you.
Cleaning lady is super nice.
Not to mention Keith such a great person always on the look out to help you out and always friendly and in such a great mood. Music environment is on point. Yea it maybe packed here n there but it's not like we cant talk n communicate when we need a matching. It will smell well because it's the gym people go to sweat not to look pretty. I love it.

I wish I could give zero star to the Pilates class I took today. The instructor Terrence Carey is terrible! For a 55-minutes class, he set at the corner of the studio, and did not move at all. He didn't even bother to put a mat on the floor or do any demonstration. There was NO pose demonstration at all. He just set at the corner and told people what to do. If a person did wrong, he didn't even want to stand up to correct this person. He just asked people to pay attention to what he SAID! Please demonstrate what is correct. It is a part of your job! I have never attended a class that instructor doesn't demonstrate poses.

Terrible experience here. After moving and cancelling my membership I asked for the final bill to be sent to my new address. The manager said that it would be sent. A month later I have a collections agency calling me for the unpaid balance. Now triple the original fee. Thought this would be the place to continue working toward my fitness goals, unfortunately the establishment and customer service are below standard. Avoid this location.

to begin, i really don't ever take the time to review anything. with that said, i have decided to share an experience as a consumer or member of this location. In the past, I have happily gone to many different locations and the worst that had occurred was an extended wait time for a machine or busted cardio equipment. Well in comparison to what occurred on Sunday, a broken machine is nothing. I became part of a situation while trying to quietly listen to music using headphones of course on my old but true ipod in the sauna. I have been using this same routine since I was a young teen, at many different locations with zero issues. Sadly, on this evening my sauna use resulted in me being confronted and then verbally subjected to a slew of inappropriate language (cursing/raising her voice) by an employee who herself was in the wrong in more ways then one. This brazen employee was hellbent on turning the sauna into her own personal spa time complete with liquids in bottles, and plastic sheeting and bags. Which for one is a major violation of health code/etiquette and even more concerning the fire risk. Despite this, I really needed the heat in order to stretch out my back so I ignored the warning signs. i spare you the rest of the details but the summarize an employee of this NYSC relentlessly attempted to bother, harass, and eventually curse at me. The ramification of her actions is that i had to spent a considerable amount of time writing almost a two page account of what occurred and sending emails on a Sunday night, a crime in its self. In hindsight, I was going to let this experience go until this employee opened her mouth with a slew of inappropriate language as I attempted to leave.

After this hellish experience I am waiting for management of the club who seems to be taking this incident seriously. Only time will tell of the out come. If resolved in an appropriate, swift, and professional manner I would not object to giving this place a better rating. The action of one rogue employee hopefully want destroy my local gym experience permanently.

All the equipment you need and a room for medium size classes. Only wished there was more equipment. Basically one or two machines per type so you have to go midday to get in a full work out. People are cool too. No d-bags or creeps. It is Sunnyside afterall.

Very new updated stuffs for make the body fit. All employees are so nice and helpful. Cheap In price. Love tht place

February 20, 2018 21:45

A bit small to my liking. It has all your machines that you'd expect. But even at 3pm on a midday, the place was busy. Not alot of bikes and there is only a sauna. But right off the 7 and near the Q32 and Q60.

Nice gym, and clean gym and worth the price, I noticed increase of monthly of $10 but do see improvement, hope to see new or upgraded equipment.

It's not expensive (29 to 35 per month) and your partner can be registered as an add-on (20 per month only).
The gym is not very big but it's never too crowdy and you usually don't have to wait.
It's very clean, and the staff is nice.
Free towels and sauna.

9/11 update: the improvements aren't happening. It would really benefit from some onsight management. The equipment functions but the issues I noted below either haven't changed and the competing sound systems is ridiculous.

5/21 update: the business director contacted me this afternoon and the conversation was encouraging. And he explained how they were trying to make improvements. So giving credit where credit is due, toning it down a little and thanks to Paul.

I have been a member of this club for over 6 years and I miss the gym that it used to be. Roughly two years ago their membership structure changed as well as their rates (which were almost halved) and since then it has been a downhill ride. It's become increasingly crowded and dense, noisy with overlapping sound systems and generally less respectful: members of the gym and of one another. Finally, and what has prompted me to write a review, my locker was broken into this past weekend and my wallet was stripped of all of its cash. Happily they left behind all but the cash and I am grateful for that. But two years or more ago this just does not seem that it have happened (5/21 - according to business director there was a spate of thefts three years ago). Now, I was not surprised so I guess shame on me. One plus is the staff at the desk. They are always extremely pleasant and have gone above and beyond the call of duty. By far the gym's greatest asset! Another is the towel service. I don't understand gyms without towels.

Not the largest gym, but plenty of equipment, not too crowded, solid WiFi and friendly staff

October 18, 2017 11:20

Newer gym and equipment is mostly new and holding up well. Gym is too small and not enough room to support a full gym lineup. Peak times are insanely crowded and gets very competitive for bench/machine time. If you go off peak times will be a much better experience. Locker rooms have over sized lockers but problems with members leaving wet towels strewn about. But without a doubt, NYSC is the best gym for the money in the tri-state. Some locations are better than others, and this location's biggest negative is it's small size.

October 18, 2017 11:20

This is the location I visit most regularly, but visit NYSCs around manhattan regularly and I'd say this location is a solid C. It's small, for sure. So waiting for equipment is to be expected, especially between about 4-9. There are always those neighborhood bros who use the gym as a social club when a lot of us are trying to hurry and get through our workout and in to all the rest of the things we have to do, but I guess that's not uncommon, especially at a lower-cost gym. The equipment is generally functional--though for the size of the clientele it seems like there's a real dearth of commonly used lower weights of dumbells--and it's an overall clean facility. The staff varies--there are several who are fantastic, and there are about half who are dismissive and completely checked out. 'But my biggest complaint, one i've seen noted in other reviews, is the use of a separate PA-style sound system in the main area. I suppose I can understand an hour here and there for a X-fit style class (though really, couldn't that also be done in the enclosed room?). The thing that drives me over the edge, though--and makes me with I could give a 2.5--is several of the trainers using the sound system like their personal home stereo, BLASTING YouTube videos of random crappy DJ sets, and music with offensive, misogynistic lyrics, while they do their OWN personal workout. If we all have to have headphones why don't they? (And often my headphones aren't even enough--I can STILL hear their music on the other side of the space!

I joined the gym hoping that it would be a nice experience for me. It was not. First of all at the time of joining.. The front desk guy never explained the terms and conditions of joining the gym. I had to join the gym for a total of 2 months. The person tells me to inform them 15 days in advance to cancel my membership. I go a month in advance to cancel it and the new person says it's 45 days.
So i talk to the manager and she complies.. But now i still got charged for the month I wasn't even there!!
Secondly- The guy was so lax , he didn't get me to sign the paperwork!
Third- My free evaluation was to be done by a trainer named ricardo.. He kept forgetting and forwarding the dates and never showed up! Yet he was always present at the gym giving personal training to other clients?
I liked the gym for what it's worth. But the management and the team are really not the best i have seen. Please join the ymca instead down the street !
