This gym may have been something in the past, but it has gone downhill over the years. All that could have been construed as hardcore about this place except the age of the equipment has been lost. Most of the employees (sans Bobby) have no idea how to lift weights and have no conception of the fact that weights make noise (especially old Iron ones). I spent over a year and a half at this gym only to be unceremoniously told I couldn't renew my membership because I happen to think it's inappropriate that 90% of the gym doesn't seem to know rule one of gym etiquette, much less rules 2-10. In fact, I routinely actually FIXED equipment in this gym of my own volition, without complaint, and was still told I couldn't come back. On top of that the bars are fairly dangerous to squat heavy with (far too much flex with 4 plates), and substantially more than a few of the plates are off by 4 or 5 whole pounds. This can lead to a pretty dangerous situation while squatting anywhere near the limit. Add to that that chalk isn't allowed (liquid chalk is NOT chalk) and you have a recipe that I wouldn't be surprised if results in serious injury to someone in the future.
If you're remotely serious about getting big, or getting strong, you have better options (which I'm now trying to find).
