SHiFT Cycling is a great place to get a workout and clear your mind in Downtown New Haven. They offer a few cycling sessions a day and have good rates if you buy classes in bulk. They have special shoes you have to wear to use the bikes, and the shoes are provided as part of your entry fee. At the end of each class, you get a cold wet towel with lavender oil which feels great after building up such a sweat. They have clean locker rooms with showers if you need them.
The 6:30 am weekday class is a great way to start your day off on the right foot, and the 5:30 and 6:30 pm weekday classes are good for winding down after a busy work day. The weekend classes take place a little later in the morning.
The workout consists of building resistance and leg speed to work up your heart rate and strengthen the core and lower body, along with some mild dumbbell exercises to work the upper body. The classes are 45-55 minutes and there is loud energizing music to go along with the workout.
The instructors are really what make this place what it is. Heidi is a standout instructor who pushes you to work harder than you ever would if you were exercising on your own. Each instructor has their own style and music choices, and they all help inspire you to push a little bit harder and get out of your comfort zone to improve your work-out.
