I have been training with Active Wellness for about a year and a half and have really enjoyed the experience! It is so great to be able to leave the planning of my workouts up to Drew and Christina. I never feel like i'm heading in for Just Another Workout, every session has something new and specifically matched to my goals, so I am free to completely focus on the work itself. Five stars!!

If you already love working out and just need a push and some accountability, you will absolutely get that here. If you hate working out, or if you haven't in a long time, or if the idea of getting a personal trainer brings up a lot of resistance, you should *definitely* consider working with Christina and Drew, and keep reading :)

When I met Christina and Drew about a year ago, my career and life were in flux. I had an unpredictable schedule that was not conducive to a consistent routine. I was afraid of judgment, had become obsessively self-conscious about my body, and simply felt stuck. The idea of working out in public (especially in front of super fit trainers!) was NOT what I wanted. In fact, I did not seek out training from Active Wellness! My sister found them online and thought they would be good for me, so she asked them to reach out. When I received a call from Christina one evening, I was frustrated at having this thrown at me, and I was planning to politely decline and cut the call short. But Christina is so welcoming and warm that I was compelled to listen. She proceeded to spend over an hour on the phone with me (at 9pm no less!), coaching me around what I wanted in my life overall, and the obstacles I was facing. I was struck by her gentleness, her attentiveness, and her generosity. She felt sincere in her intention to help me. And because she had also been so specific about the work she and her husband, Drew, had done with clients in the past, so clear about the range of clients they work with, and so passionate about their principles as fitness professionals, I was willing to give it a try.

To my surprise, I enjoyed my workouts at Active Wellness, especially with Drew. He is tough but patient -- a pragmatic trainer who doesn't waste time but still cares. He starts where you are and builds a foundation that focuses on technique and long-term growth over speed. You can definitely get high-intensity workouts with both of them! But Christina and Drew also customize your experience based on what you need in that moment. For example, after an ankle injury, I started using their Pilates Reformer. It wasn't as intense, but it was definitely better than not leaving my house!

Christina and Drew's adaptability, coupled with their willingness to continue supporting me no matter what, made my time at Active Wellness very meaningful. Over the past year, I canceled many sessions last minute and couldn't prioritize this commitment in the midst of so much else. Not long after I started with them, things had escalated in my professional and personal life such that I shut down and just stopped scheduling sessions. I think Christina and Drew knew I needed space, and they gave it to me. They very easily could have never been in touch again (I had already paid them for a few months of training!). But after some time, I received a very kind email from Christina, checking in and asking if I might want to come in again. I was shocked. This was not about business for them; they were genuinely invested in my journey. Christina and Drew embody integrity: they are committed to their clients. They want the best for you, and they will not give up on you, even if you are ready to give up.

The highlight of my time at Active Wellness was one-on-one coaching with Christina, which we did after I moved from New Haven. I have worked with a lot of coaches in the past, and Christina is fantastic. She let me talk when she knew I needed to be heard; she had me re-evaluate my vision and values from what I had articulated several months earlier; she asked questions that helped me to better understand myself and to establish extremely concrete steps to reaching goals. No goal, and no accomplishment, was ever too small to celebrate.

It is true that I did not lose the weight I had (unrealistically) hoped to lose. (I didn't put in the work necessary to make that happen). However, I did start to feel comfortable in my own skin, learn that exercise makes me feel better, and feel empowered about my decisions. And that has been invaluable.

When I first called Active Wellness, my primary goal was to lose some weight and get in better shape. I anticipated a focus on physical health, but what I got was a holistic focus on the wellbeing of both the body and the mind that proved to be critically important to my success. Through the wellness coaching sessions, I was able to articulate and hold myself accountable to goals that I'd had for a long time: finding better work-life balance, managing stress, and fostering self-care. And once those pieces fell into place, the physical health came more naturally. I worked with Drew and Christina for a year, and loved every minute of it. They took the time to get to know me, not just as a client but as a person. As a result, they were able to tailor my sessions for maximum impact and enjoyment: Drew incorporated my martial arts background through high-intensity boxing sessions, and Christina designed outdoor workouts that catered to my love of nature. Recently, I moved out of state; although I will no longer be training with Active Wellness, I feel prepared for continued success. Christina partnered with me to create a transition plan to support my ongoing health and fitness journey, and I have already begun taking classes at my new location. I am grateful to Drew and Christina and have a deep admiration and respect for the knowledge, skills, passion, and empathy that they bring to their work.

Christina is a gem! I have been coming to her for three years and she is incredible- training with her is always a highlight of my week. She has immense knowledge of the human body and is always able to make tiny adjustments that lead to huge differences in the efficacy of the workout. She is terrific at coaching and working with you through the ups and downs that inevitably come with setting goals and working towards them. Active Wellness has a non-judgmental and wholesome environment that welcomes everyone, and I always leave feeling refreshed and recharged! I cannot recommend Christina highly enough!

Having been very active in my teens and 20s and played many sports, life caught up and I couldn't believe how much strength I had lost in my 30s. After looking into traditional gyms and trainers, and always coming up against a one-size fits all approach, I called Active Wellness Personal Training and instantly knew they were the perfect team for me. Christina's holistic approach, her targeted workouts and her focus on form are exemplary and so are the results! Within 5 months I was able to learn to ski and actually get good at it, thanks to the strength, conditioning and care I received at Active Wellness.

I was so happy with my experience and felt so good that my husband joined as well, and worked with Drew every week, with equally great results. So if you are in the New Haven Area and looking to get fit, connect with Active Wellness Personal Training, they really are the best!

In my sophomore year of college I realized I needed help losing weight and getting back in shape. I had been a competitive cheerleader and knew I had the potential to be in great shape since I had been there before. I came to Active Wellness and started participating in personal training and wellness coaching sessions 3-5 times a week. I felt supported in the excercise environment. My trainers/coaches helped me to progress in my fitness safely given I had a past injury. They also challenged me to reach new goals. My routine here varies from kickboxing to yoga to Pilates to weight training. The variety of excersies is refreshing and is assisting me in my weight loss/weight maintence . As a busy college student studying nursing, the Active Wellness environment helps me with stress management as well. After leaving a workout I find myself with a clear mind that is ready to take on my work load for the day. My trainers/wellness coaches help me to notice my strengths and use them as self motivation to stay on track. We talk through obstacles that may come up and strategize plans so that I can be successful.

I started working out with my trainers a year ago when I wanted to start being healthier. They helped provide me with knowledge and skills sets to work out in a safe, clean environment. Their focus is on realistic goals that you can reach!!!

If you are looking for a place to work out and get healthy I suggest giving Active Wellness a try. I first met Drew ten years ago right before my 50th birthday. I trained with him one to two times per week for six years and lost 30lbs. I then worked out on my own for three years but I wasn't getting results. Just before my 60th birthday I met with Christina for a wellness coaching session. The questions she asked helped me verbalize what it was that I wanted to achieve for the next phase of my physical fitness and wellness. Drew and Christina tailored an exercise plan to meet my needs. They took guidance from my primary care physician and chiropractor. I have health conditions that are now under control -- hypertension, back pain and arthritis in my knees. This time I came to my personal training sessions two times a week for six months. I used the virtual club membership and worked out two times per week on my own as well. Through my wellness coaching sessions I became aware of creating healthier eating habits. I worked on having portion control, eating more fruits and vegetables and eating more lean proteins. I have lost 18lbs, dropped bodyfat and lost 3.5 inches off my waist! In total I have lost 48lbs! I am now in a maintenance phase and coming to my personal training sessions one time per week and working out on my own three times per week. It's been rewarding to achieve the goals I have set for myself!

I decided this past April to make a few fitness goals in preparation for my 40th birthday coming up next year. After a ton of research, I decided to give Active Wellness a call and I'm extremely glad I did. Christina and Drew were patient and understanding with all of my questions and concerns. They both seem to have a knack for reading moods and knowing exactly what kind of workout you need that day. As a former athletic trainer, this resonated with me greatly.

In the four months I've been coming here I've gained strength, mobility, and confidence. It's been a pleasure coming here and I recommend them to anyone looking to get in shape.

I've always played sports competitively, but this is the first time I've gone months and years without injury. Christina and Drew are knowledgeable and professional, who train you with your long term goals and safety in mind. Can't recommend enough times!

I came to Active Wellness 8 months ago to get a better workout and have since gotten that and so much more! My trainers do everything they can for me to help me create and achieve attainable and challenging goals. I notice improved form, balance, weight loss, toning, and decreased body fat. I have more energy and just feel better overall. I highly recommend Active Wellness!

Working with my trainer at Active Wellness has helped me to be consistent in my exercise routine and has taught me how to modify my workouts for my body. They have a wealth of knowledge about yoga, Pilates, weight training and more. The staff is friendly and professional and the studio is clean and spacious. Thank you for all your help and support.

I have been delighted with the way Drew worked intensively with my physical therapist to design exercises for balance and flexibility in the face of Parkinson's Disease. The advice, support and encouragement I get from everyone at active wellness is superb.
