I had a great experience right from the get go! Jack whom I met the first day welcomed me with a cheer & was super excited to go over my goals & spent 1hr explaining the nuances and gaps in my understanding of my fitness goals, he also gave a me a free PT session :) ... I signed up for PT Mr. Big Phil .. A serious task master & always approachable, have already started seeing the difference. A great team !!

City Sports is an American sporting goods retailer that re-launched in the spring of 2017 after being purchased during bankruptcy liquidation in December 2015. Founded in 1983 by Mike Kennedy and Eric Martin, two Boston locals, the company grew across state borders and operated 27 stores in eight states. Post-bankruptcy the company now operates an e-commerce site with plans for future brick and mortar locations.
On March 11, 2008, the company announced that it had been acquired by the Highland Consumer Fund, a subsidiary of Highland Capital Partners, an investment firm. Highland purchased an 80% stake in the company, and planned to nearly triple the number of stores within the next five years. Ultimately, Highland estimated that the business had the potential to grow to around 300 stores across the United States. Both parties declined to release financial details of the deal.
In July 2017, the company announced they would be opening a pop-up store and sponsoring the Boston Triathlon with logos on the race bags and swim caps. Sonnek-Schmelz said the retailer expects to open no more than 10 brick and mortar locations in mostly urban east-coast areas. Each of the locations would most likely be under 5,000 square feet (460 m2) and focused on fitness-oriented customers.

The parking lot is so busy in the most part of the daylight time.

I hope to give ZERO star to this place. The staff is rude, especially the manager. Very aggressive. The staff would be very friendly before you signed up but once you did, they have no patience and no respect to you. Don't trust whatever they said before you signed up. BTW, you can bargain about the membership fee! They will charge you much more if you did not bargain.

City Sports at Brokaw in San Jose, is not just sometimes dirty , but is always dirty. Personal trainers are not recommendable, don't reach the expectations of a good friendly behavior between the customer and them as members of City sports. The wooded floor of the group work outs is full of dust and sweat spots accumulated for weeks. The toilets in the women bathroom are embarrassing to say disgusting and at times there is no toilet paper. the showers are full of hairs not just during times of the day but all the time. Weekends is the worst.
The most uncomfortable thing is that they bring their pool maintenance man to attend the water in the hot tub when they are females in there or taking showers. Actually cleaning and maintenance of the water should be done when no one is using or when the female customers are not using the hot tub.

Better off going to another gym. Place is absolutely dirty, locker rooms and showers are never cleaned. It's very busy at all times with people who don't bother learning to use the machines properly and spend too much time on their phones, and others will take 3 to 4 sets of weights and never place them back on the racks. Only good about this gym is convenience for some, the sauna, and racket ball courts.

I asked to freeze my account because i was going to have surgery and wouldn't use the facility for probably one month. They told me to come in when my payment was due and paid the $10 and then my account would be frozen. I showed up one day early than my bill was due and was told that my account was already Frozen and they said go ahead and work out and when you're done come back and talk to us and we'll work it all out when I came back that person was gone and they said I had to pay the whole month for working out that evening. What a rip off these places and what a crooked way to get over I told him just to close my account

Rick's a great trainer! If you are in need of a personal trainer that will build a program around your wants and needs, ask for him!

This rating is for the company as a whole and not this specific Branch .
Apparently if you want to cancel your membership you will need to do it from Monday to Friday .

4 stars because of the many different machine and free weights to choose from. And the fitness classes also. It's missing the 5th star because of the hours. I wish they stay open longer on the weekends.

Can get busy in the evenings and mornings , it's a decent place

May 15, 2018 03:00

Had my la fitness membership the manager was still insist of charging me 15$ visitor
Not happy defenetly moving to 24hour fitness

May 6, 2018 01:49

Usually I'm not picky on service, but this place takes it to a pretty low spot. After just a few years some fixtures are getting rusty, the bathroom can be a spectacular surprise, the staff has very, very high turnover rate, and you often have trouble finding them(for example, when you decide to cancel your membership on a Saturday).

May 3, 2018 13:10

Better than 24 hours. much cleaner. only thing is it closes at 12... Still better than stonestown's City Sports

April 22, 2018 19:41

Has gym equipments, zumba and yoga sessions, swimming pool.
Bargaining for personal trainer rates works here.

Excelent equipment, free 4 days Guess pass...

January 4, 2018 19:17

Take these reviews seriously. This City Sport location is awful. Every time I come here, I make a point to greet the person who is doing the check-ins and I say goodbye when I leave and they NEVER acknowledge me. The staff is unbelievably rude. I have asked for help on how to use some of the machines from several staff members and they either didn't know the answer or they blew me off.
My bike was stolen from the bike rack right outside and they could not have cared less when I inquired about security cameras or even if anyone had seen anything. They seemed inconvenienced to have to talk to me at all.
Luckily I live close enough to just go home and shower, but their locker room is disgusting. The shower curtains are so filthy I couldn't imagine using them.

They need to fire everyone and start fresh with a new staff because the customer service at this location is just terrible.

Unimpressed with the pool. It is shallow and the water is a little murky. Only three lanes and they get crowded with people bobbing around or doing breaststroke. I swam here three different days on the trial membership and even in off hours had to share a lane with at least one person. There is no timer on the wall to see your lap times. Only good thing about the pool is there is a large window on one wall giving lots of natural light.

November 9, 2017 16:33

The equipment is very good but oh my gosh - the locker rooms are filthy, the shower heads are plug'd, the floors are dirty, they often have no soap in the dispensers and the list goes on. Sadly, management is perfectly happy to let this continue. I've complained several times as have others so I can only conclude that they think they have a captive customers. If you are thinking of joining - check out the locker rooms first. This review is specifically for the center on Brokaw.

Terrible place. I'm a member. This is the worse City Sports Club that I've been to so far and I've been to 3 of them. Staff are kind, but very dirty locker room and shower area. I do not mean just a little bit of paper towels on the ground. I'm talking about tons of hairs in the showers and shampoo bottles laying around everywhere and just a messy bathroom in general. But good equipment like any other City Sports Club that I've been at.

October 20, 2017 07:52

I've been a member at City Sports for over three years and only started coming to this one on Brokaw for the last year because it's 5 minutes from work and I have a club membership and guest privileges for which I pay extra. I've been consistently disappointed with the quality of the space and staff. The equipment is rarely maintained, the showers are straight up disgusting and clogged with grime, the pool is filthy and unsafe, and the locker room is rarely checked or cleaned with multiple customers complaining about getting athletes foot from the place. The staff is outright disrespectful and rude to customers, which is incredibly remarkable because I've come to expect a better standard from the other locations I frequent. I've found myself agreeing with a lot of the reviews on here by people dismayed by the quality of service at this location and you can tell that most of the 5-star reviews are fake. I let this go for a certain time because of sheer convenience.

But today, I'm downright offended by the treatment a guest and I received during the afternoon. I sign in and remember that I left my water bottle and headphones in my car, so I let my guest go in to change while I get my stuff from the car. I'm searching for my headphones and I get a call from City Sports and it's one of the sales representatives. They tell me to come back and stay with my guest in the most condescending tone, even after I tell them that I just stepped out to grab something. Then he tells me that he's going to note my account with an "abuse" of privileges and that, "If we notice it again, we're going to have to take drastic action." First of all, paying for a service is not "privileges," it's a professional and legal contract giving customers rights to use said services, so it's not a favor in the least. Secondly, I was aware that their sales staff are extremely unprofessional and rude, but I wasn't aware that they'd make threats against paying customers. I come back in and watch their sales guys clowning around and stare me down from their stations. At this point, I'm going to consult with a lawyer about taking legal action and get involved with their head office, because it isn't at any point acceptable to violate and threaten paying customers.

I would not recommend this City Sports to anyone. There's a 24-Fitness down the road and several other gyms in a 10-mile radius that provide much better service, environment, and at a much better pricing. If you value where your money is going for the sake of quality, avoid this location.

If I were the main office employee and need to manage all sites, I wouldn't underestimate all the 1 star review. They are telling you the truth. I have been a City Sports member since Sunnyvale site opened and visited. I usually use the Sunnyvale site but I had to use this Brokaw site since I had a business trip to Milpitas.
Only one positive comment about this site is one story building instead of 2 story buildings as others near by so I don't have to go downstairs for bathroom use. OK, machines are not so clean...that's I understand. However, I wonder when was the last time they cleaned the bathrooms and shower room. Most of shower heads are useless since the water pressure is so low. I am not joking. You can't even wash your face well. And there are shower stalls without soap dispenser, broke but didn't bother to replace them.
OK, I may have to use this site once a month or so from now on, but I don't feel good to go there. Sigh!

Great place to work out. has a lot of options..from racquetball courts to lap pools and multiple classes, it has all that you'll need to get your blood flowing

(Member for over a year)

I really wish zero stars was an option here.
City Sports sales members bad mouthing other paying customers to potential new clients is horrible practice.

I can promise you by keeping up these standards with your sales team you will continue to lose new customers. You have lost my business going forward.

The Valley is small and paying customers are your best marketing contacts, by destroying these connections you are only hurting yourself.

Best of luck City Sports, I suggest to other potential clients you look at alternate gym.

For feedback to City Sports, I can't count the amount of times paper towels were out, the sinks aren't working and the soap completly empty. These key details are what make paying customers stay loyal.

Good machines but be sure to get there before the peak hour of 5 pm when parking can be hard to find and machines really busy
