I've never left a poor review of any organization before, but I feel the need to warn others of this gym. Seriously. Go anywhere else.
I first joined last July and got the 12 month membership. I wish I hadn't. If I could cancel the direct withdrawals from my account and go to another gym I would have done so months ago.
I'll begin with a short story. One of my friends wanted to begin coming to this gym with me, so after trying it out one day, they decided to sign up for a 3 month membership. He didn't have his card on him, so I paid his ~$130 membership fee (which covered membership for 3 months), and he shot me the money on venmo. We told the staff that next time he comes in, he'll put his card on the account to set up the monthly withdrawals. Turns out, my friend unexpectedly had to move, and never went to the gym again. In his absence, they had set up my card for the automatic withdrawals. I told the staff the next week that my friend needed to cancel but they said, according to policy, he was locked in to 3 months and those withdrawals would hit my card. I tried to work with them on resolving this reasonably--even offering to go ahead and pay the full first month (because he did work out one day), but they claimed there's absolutely nothing they could do and I would be charged for the full 3 months. "okay, fine" I think, and chalk that up as a loss I guess. Month 4 rolls around though, and I get hit with another withdrawal. I go ask what's going on, and they claim that they need to be informed in writing of my intent to cancel the membership. They say there's no way they can retroactively refund any money so far. I inform them in writing that day and think no more about it. ... 30 days later another withdrawal. Keep in mind I'm paying two gym memberships this whole time. After asking why I was charged again, they said, it takes 30 days for the written notice to go into effect, so "you shouldn't bother me about it unless we charge you next month." I go to this gym every day, I know the staff. I've never raised my voice or was visibly upset throughout this unreasonable process because I get along well with the staff themselves. I'm only leaving this review because I find this inability to provide an iota of customer service absolutely unacceptable. Even for a customer that's on a first name basis with many of the employees, they are not only uncompromising and unable to work with you in a reasonable fashion to resolve issues, but I'd argue that they're willing to burn you any way they can for an extra month of membership fees. Read everything you sign there, and take pictures of all documentation so that you can prove to them that you notified them. I've heard stories from other members about having to cancel (in writing) multiple times for the withdrawals to stop.
On a less egregious note, the gym has recently shifted locations to a room that's half the size as before and 1.5x the membership fee. They aggressively try to sell you personal trainers and classes every day for the first month you're there. It's very crowded in the new space. You're constantly having to wait to perform another repetition because someone is walking by, or having to think about the space you're taking up and the time you've spent on one machine. Forget trying to do supersets or circuits on multiple pieces of equipment--it's just not happening.
Seems like it's probably a good place if you want to run on a treadmill--assuming that you can get an unoccupied one.
Good luck to you if you're signing up here.
