A great little climbing gym with very nice staff. A nice gym to come to for my accidental stop over in Birmingham.

I found this gym three years ago.. since then the community has grown so much! It's such a loving community, everyone pushes each other to be their best but encourages you with where you are in your goals. There are six walls at this gym, one of which is reset every Tuesday! The walls don't exceed 16ft high and the floor under the walls is covered in copious amounts of padding, so don't worry about the fact that you're not in a harness! We have yoga on Tuesday and Thursday nights in a quiet studio IN THE GYM so you can get your zen on before a climb! The weight room of this gym is pretty primitive but I honestly love that. There's so much you can don't here to build your strength or even warm up before climbing! Of you're a member, you have access to different training walls in the gym as well. Be sure to check out the new sister gym, Birmingham Boulders!

First Ave is an incredible facility for the Birmingham metro area. I can get a quick session during lunch or after work and still get back to regular life with ease. One of the six wall's are set every Tuesday with a mix of beginner to advanced problems so there is always something new for all level of climbers. Yoga and Strength classes are also offered during the weekday evenings. There is a full weight and strength training area. This gym is not huge, but that is why I like being part of the FAR community.

The original climbing gym of Birmingham & a large reason Birmingham has such a great climbing community. I have been going to this gym in some capacity for the past 9 years & have met lifelong friends here. Get strong, meet new people, & have fun doing it.

The original climbing gym in Birmingham. This place has a great community feel. Great place to meet fellow climbers or get in shape even if you have never climbed! Also super convenient to Downtown, Crestwood, and Avondale

First Ave Rocks is a great place for beginners to get started bouldering or for more advanced climbers to train. Staff members are always welcoming and helpful and the FAR community is awesome!

A clean gym with a good variety of easy, intermediate, and expert bouldering routes. There is no real top roping to speak of, but don't let that deter you, still an excellent gym.

I love this place! I've been here several times, and I've always had a blast. Everyone's friendly, whether they're staff or customers. There's no feeling of stress or anxiety that I get in a normal gym. The main attraction here is the climbing wall, which snakes its way from the front of the building to the back. Every part of the wall has problems of any skill level imaginable. Even someone who has never been active in their life could find something that they could do, and they'd have a fantastic time. Besides the climbing wall, there's a section for grip training, a store selling climbing gear and yummy snacks, as well as a conventional (albeit small) gym. Honestly my favorite thing about this place is the people. This is one of those rare places where the customers are just as willing to help as the staff. For example, I learned how to rock climb thanks to a nice dude who just happened to be climbing when I showed up for the first time. The staff are genuinely good people, as well - one time when the cashier was telling me the price, he got his words mixed up and told me a price that was lower than it actually was. He corrected himself before he slid my card, but he decided to give me the lower price that he erroneously said anyways. Awesome! This place is such an obscure little gem of Birmingham, and I want to get the word out as much as I can.

The gym is kind of small, yet you can easily spend all day there. To top it off, they probably have the friendliest staff I have seen!!

We were on vacation and I left my climbing bag there (with shoes, harness, etc). Emily arranged to have it shipped to me and wouldn't accept payment.

Thank you.

They are helpful when it's your first time visiting. If you live close to downtown it's the only public climbing gym. All ages are welcome.
