An awesome meathead gym. The best. Great music. Vast amount of machines and weights. Hardly any waiting to use equipment since there is so much. It's just an awesome gym. Owners are awesome.
Best gym in the Midwest. Hands down.
Best power lifting gym I have ever been A member of.
If you want to get strong and/or improve performance then Madtown Fitness is the best Madison has to offer.
Love this place! Great people and really motivates you to stick with it. Equipment for every type of exercise especially for weightlifting and powerlifting.
Great gym for lifting.
Great gym for lifting.
I have been to this gym a few times over the past year and it seems to be at an unfortunate decline. When I first went, maybe early summer 2017, it was pretty relaxed and it felt like a real power gym; no rules, chalk everywhere, garage doors open and it was fun to lift there, arguably one of the better gyms in the state. Now, sadly, during my most recent visit, there were more rules in the gym then most "fancy" gyms I've been to (no dumbbells on the bench, no sprint intervals on the treadmill, don't leave your gym stuff here, etc...) the garage doors were closed with what seemed to be a new AC system (main reason why I liked this gym was the heat in the summer with the garage doors open, fresh air does a lot for a good workout), the music was so loud that I couldn't hear what was playing on my headphones (not a fan of yelling hardcore rock), and many machines were down including their only cable tower (which has 4 pulley systems, two lat pull downs, and their only cable seated row). I may have caught the gym at a bad time but as of now when I'm back in town, metroflex may be the best option----> no rules, garage doors open, plug and play music, and a healthy atmosphere.

The people who lift there, the equipment, music, and of course chalk are what sets it a part as a gym. The West side has a significantly nicer environment. If you are new, just remember, most people are consumed with themselves. Don't worry about people judging you, because more often than not, they aren't watching you! Lift with confidence :)

I would reiterate what Lance posted. If you are serious about your training and are tired of the garbage equipment that other places have to offer than stop kidding yourself and train here. Great atmosphere for the serious lifter.

Really great set-up inside, however, the way they go about their business is BS. I set up a time to meet with Dan to TALK about getting a membership. For 15 minutes we met.. Everything felt rushed and I was intimated by him. When we made our way to the door, he handed me a clipboard and he was pushy about signing the contract. After meeting with him, signing the contract, and paying the monthly fee + fob key charge, I never set foot in the Madtown Fitness again... For months after this, they continued to hound me for a payment even though I never went back after meeting with Dan. I got roped into signing a contract and had to pay $150 just to get out of being sent to collections... all because I met with him for 15 minutes.

Phenomenal gym hard to believe a gym of this magnitude exist in Madison. It's a type of gym you only see on YouTube or a gym in a magazine that a professional lifter is randomly working out in...it's that serious.
I canceled my Princeton Club membership years ago to switch over to Madtown Fitness, as I prefer smaller gyms and it's also much closer. However now I deeply regret switching. The equipment and setup of the gym is nice but there is one con that outweighs all pros of this gym. I can't begin to understand how the owner expects their members to train/exercise in a gym where they do not regulate temperature conditions. All summer long I can't recall a single day where the AC was turned on. The gym itself would be much more hotter and humid than it is outside. No one should be sweating there a** off just from being in the gym alone. The heat and humidity in that gym accelerates my exhaustion which doesn't allow me to perform to my full potential. I've witnessed so many other members sweating their butts off from just warming up. I don't care how "hardcore" it may seem to train in the heat, but not everyone can withstand such heat conditions as compared to others. I am in no way trying to disrespect the gym owner or the image of the gym, but something definitely needs to change about their air regulations. I was told their solution is just opening the garage to allow the air in.. I find that highly unprofessional.
Great gym with all the equipment I could ever need and more. Dan and Josh have been nothing but helpful and the people are great!
Best PL/Strongman gym I've seen
A superb gym with a strong sense of community. I love the kilogram plates on the olympic platforms. There is a machine or piece of equipment for every need. There are enough rigs, racks, and hooks to squat from. This is where humans get strong.
