First of all it is huge! Lots of room for classes and special interests. I saw a gym, weight room, racket ball room i think, really nice child care area. I went there for swim classes for our grandchildren. There were many classes going on at once enabling a broad age and ability range to learn at one time. So our 3 children attended the same hour. Saving time for us! There is a nice warm pool for young children and seniors too.
The Y has been wonderful for my family! Kids love child watch, and classes. Hubby and I have never had trouble finding a machine so we can get a workout! Staff has been helpful and pleasant :)
This review is for the ladies that teach Little Learners - you are AMAZING! My daughter can be a handful, she just turned 3 years old and is being introduced to a structured learning environment. She was demonstrating some undesirable behavior and you were able to find a solution that worked for her and the class. I'm blown away on how you handled the situation, I feel so relieved and confident that my daughter will continue to grow and excel in your class. Thank you for not giving up on her.
My favorite YMCA in pierce county. Not one complaint about this location. Not over crowded, employees are nice, gym is clean, machines are always up and operating, well maintained. This gym is a daily stop for me.
Just started attending here and I am coming more accustomed to it however I really do think the weight lifting area needs to be bigger and have some simple investments put into it. The equipment is messed up on some machines pretty baddly.....easy fixes. Also the swim lessons for toddkers are hard to get into and that's the main reason I'm enrolled. I was logged in right when the open enrollment started and the classes were already full (within 3 minutes)....super discouraging.
Been coming here for 4 years now and it's now part of my life. Made great friends and love the TRX Bootcamp and Circuit classes. Only downside is the prices are steep. Yes it goes for a good cause and you can get assistance but if you have no kids and can't get assistance you're shelling out $60 a month for a solo membership which is a lot.

A great place to stay healthy! The community feels like family and the staff are supportive and encouraging.
Had a friend who worked here. He has a mental handicap that affects his social skills. One day a customer complained that he was staring at her for too long, and then discontinued her membership. He was promtly fired, even though his employer was fully aware of his handicap. This lack of compassion is deplorable, and as far as I know this type of discrimination is illegal. A shame that a once tolerant family focused organization has become a heartless corporation. Shame on the YMCA for being such a charade.

I love this YMCA but pool routinely has babies with daipers on! As you can imagine the pool gets shut done all the time. The sound of crying babies doesnt help the concentration while working out either.

Me and my family all have a membership here and we all love it. There are so many activities and sports to do here as well as simple things like swimming and having a quick workout. We come here quite often and everytime we went there has not been one time where there were bad staff or people in general. There are a variety of pools (one pool is only for classes most of the time) including the normal pool, kiddie pool, lap pool, and hot tub. There are also a variety of gym areas (for 15+ years, but a bracelet is needed for 10-14 years) downstairs they have mostly cardio machines, but upstairs they have a track and all of the different types of machines to help you get into the dream body you want. All of the classes are very fun for the people in them. I would recommend this place to anyone.

I think things could be marked better and the staff could be more informative; I think they assume people know where they should go or what they are doing. Instructions posted for the lockers with the built in locks would be great.

Great place to workout. I put my headphones in and I'm good. So much better than Friday nights called latenight
Love this place when I visit town. Really love the walking track. Disappointed they left silver sneakers program.
I had my great-grandson in the step ahead swim event. He really loved it but we had to leave early because he was so cold. He is 2 years and 2 months old.

The parking was fairly easy to find on a very busy time of day. The inside was very clean. The staff is great.
I love how it's meant for family I don't like how you have to rush to get on the roster to be able to play sports because it's so busy that they can't let all the kids play so if you don't get up super early in the morning or go in your kids will not be able to play and I wish they had more open swim time it's a very short time and the time that you're getting your kid dress and golden swimming you're getting right back out and getting dressed again
I do not have a membership at the YMCA, I simply take advantage of the free showers offered in the early morning hours here. I'm not sure if the original intention was to serve the homeless/needy population, but that is the reason this service was brought to my attention. You just need a valid form of identification which you leave at the front desk while you shower, and you fill out a quick bit of information for their records, as well I believe so they can do a check on you to make sure that you are safe to be there. At the Mel Korum YMCA, you have 30 minutes to get in, shower and get out, and they will come check on you and hurry you along if you exceed that time. But the facilities are nice, and being able to shower is a very much appreciated experience. Not being able to shower is a very demoralizing and frustrating experience that I can now avoid thanks to the YMCA!!
This place is amazing for the whole family. It is great for my children because they can join anything they are into and great for my husband and my self to work out. There is a lot of activities for both adults and children included in membership.
I love it here. I really like getting my girls into classes here. The staff is very friendly and helpful. I just wish the gymnastics gym was open for free time more.
Great basketball courts and good competition. Nice building too, I mostly play basketball so I can't really say how the daycare or any of the classes and nice staff too. Big court if you play basketball and there is a youth gym if there are too many people playing in the main gym.
I've always had my opinions of the YMCA, and I held them in very low regard. After having some direct exposure though I must admit that this is a very clean, professional, and valuable community center. They offer several quality programs, and there's a lot of positive benefits to here. It's worth checking out.
This place has 2 large sized gyms (1-adults, 1-kids). 2 levels, A track on the upper level, pool (1-adults, 1-kids). Multiple hot tubs, steam room, sauna, treadmill and other machinery on both levels, with host of other workout rooms catered to both adults and kids. Daycare, juice bar, lounge area and so on. I kid you not this place is pretty big. Glad the family and I joined as there is plenty of things and activities to accommodate the whole family. Virtual tour available online.
The machines are pretty dated. The layout is not intuitive. The kiddie pool leaves something to be desired. The parking is atrocious. We love the swim lessons they offer. The locker rooms are always very clean. The running track is great.
This gym has everything I want: indoor jogging track, racquetball courts, and ample room and variety for everyone. Great place and environment!
I visit this YMCA at least three times a week and am always greeted with a friendly hello. The staff is friendly, helpful, and always easy to find. This YMCA location offers a wide variety of youth activities and adult classes/workout programs. The monthly membership price is definitely worth all the classes my kids are able to take. The facility itself is well maintained and was just recently updated with new downstairs locker rooms. Highly recommend this gym
It's honestly a great place... Sometimes.
There is this staffer that works there who seems to look at women and girls in a way that really creeps me out. He is a tallish fat white guy with brown hair, in his late thirties at the youngest. I get some serious perv vibes from the guy and I know other girls feel the same way. I'm not sure what his job actually is but I feel like he is in charge of stuff. Not sure what else to do but post here :(
Only though I don't like is the main big weight room is full of people who make fun of people. I thought this was a place of non judgement but I guess I was wrong. It's been rough on me when people constantly laugh at me for trying to better myself. But I'm still going to go. So far I've lost 20 pounds in 2 months. Thank you ymca staff
This is a great YMCA location. Very nice running track and swimming pool. They dud a great job with swimming lessons with my kids when they were younger.
Whenever there is a lightning storm they close the pool and showers. They close the INDOOR pool. Really?!? And the showers?? I was informed that this was for my safety. Seriously??
Horrible place and VERY unsafe/dirty place to be!!! Over the past few months I've had nothing but problems with this place! It started with the daycare losing my 1yr old child! I went to check through one of the windows on him and watched the night crew girls just standing around talking while my son moved the gate and walked out of the room. NONE of them even noticed! I waited a few minutes before going in and asking about him and saw the panic on thier faces when they realized they couldn't find him. My son was safely returned to me but that isn't the point. Again a few nights later I go to check on my son again only to find no toys out for the kids to play with and all of them just sitting around watching tv. I don't pay good money for them to just let my kid sit there and watch tv all the time. Both incidents I went straight to a manager who said they would look into it but ofcouse nothing was done about either incident! Then today I finally had enough and canceled my families entire membership because while my son and I were swimming, he got sick and puked from swallowing the water. He puked a good amount in the pool too. I told one of the female lifeguards who said they'll take care of it. I went to get dressed and came out to find a bunch of people back in the water without them cleaning it properly! Disgusting!!! I went to the front desk and they acted like they cared but once again no one got out of the pool for it to be cleaned. We will NOT be coming back.
