4.5 STARS. I've been climbing at SBP for about 6 months and think its one of the best gyms in the whole city. The facilities are maintained relatively well. Beautiful lounging areas, and cafe. There are classes available with membership on top of a gym downstairs so it's a lot of bang for you buck. Its so unfortunate that the staff can be kinda unfriendly and snotty at times. There are several great employees that are kind, responsive, and helpful, but there are a few that can make it less enjoyable experience, especially when having to deal with them at the front desk.

About the place:
If you sign up (Students get discount!), You can bring guests which they have to fill out a simple 3-5min waiver (parents needed if for children).
If you have subscribed to the gym, you get 2 tokens to use for two people that have never subscribed or been to Seattle Bouldering Project.
These guests gets a one time use for an all day free pass with pair of rental shoes at no cost.
Most people that end up guest passing tend to climb for about 30min - 1hour.

There are locker rooms which have bathrooms, showers and saunas on the main floor.

There are generic locker areas, extra bathrooms, a kids section, a training section, yoga, Bar/Cafe (if you drink alcohol, you can't climb), as well as a gym; which can all be found downstairs.

The routes get changed two times a week (I believe it was 2 times a week) at certain sections.
That way you will always have some new routes to climb when you keep coming back!

There are sometimes friendly dogs just outside the front door and you can pet and play with them!

Staff:
The staff go over rules and tips about minding someone climbing so don't go underneath an area where someone can fall on you.
They are very friendly and want you to have a fun and safe time inside.

The People, Guests, Community:
Everyone is really friendly and helpful.
Some people will be willing to help you out. You can always watch someone do a route (that's called seeing their "beta" [their version of climbing that specific route] which can help you understand how to do a route you're stuck on), you can ask for tips on your technique or just hang out with people around your skill level.

I like to hang out with people above my level to have something to work towards and I can see all their techniques and guidance to get me motivated to properly climb.

Solid quality gym. I often see the setters trying climbs when they are not setting. They are strong climbers and creative setters. Many female setters as well which means diverse climbs for different body types.

This place rocks ;)
But really this is the world's largest bouldering gym and the walls are constantly being reset with new problems so you'll never get bored. This place accommodates all skill levels from absolute beginners to insane experts. But damn, this place is quite popular, so expect a crowd. Come very early or very late if want to avoid the crowd.

This place is huge and has a great diversity of routes, both in skill level and types of holds at each skill level. Progressing to harder routes feels more fluid here than at other gyms that I've been to - since there are so many routes, if you get stuck on one route, there are plenty of similar difficulty routes for you to try. This place is cheap, which is surprising given how nice it is; students can get a day pass for $13. They also provide chalk bags for free and have a free first aid station with tape and band aids. The gym is really cool too; they have a nice campus board and hang boards, and lots of other equipment. I've only come here twice, but each time I've spent 4 hours bouldering because it's such a fun place to climb and there are so many routes to try and projects to work on. It can get pretty crowded, but the other climbers are respectful and supportive.

Don't plan on getting much of a finger work out because there are few problems that feature edges and crimping... literally not even one problem at each level of difficulty. Lots of wall space but not much density of routes, resulting in relatively few good problems. Finally, lots of old, polished holds; fortunately, they put these on the easy problems, so after warming up, one can avoid them.

I dropped in for a day pass because I'm just a traveller and LOVED the space. Plenty of problems to keep you occupied for awhile. Great facility all round. If I'm ever in Seattle, I'll definitely be back.

Great facility -- it is much more than just a bouldering gym. They have a full gym area, saunas in the locker room, and a cafe/bar right downstairs. Note: bring your own lock to lock your things in a locker.

I went with my husband who has a membership and got in for free as a guest. I was also able to rent shoes for free, which was so nice. I took a beginner class which helped build my confidence and gave me some good instruction. The staff members were incredibly friendly and helpful. I climbed for ~2.5 hours and never got bored. There were many paths to climb and it was busy but never too crowded. This was a fun, wholesome environment. Would definitely go again.

First time bouldering and now I'm hooked. The staff were friendly and the atmosphere was awesome. Climbers ranging from beginners like myself to pros all sharing areas of the gym. The facility also includes a workout area and a bar/cafe, perfect for a cold bevvie after a good work out.

This is a great place to build strength and take your bouldering to new heights. They offer a multitude of classes and workshops that are held in their large lower level. Membership is a little expensive but its understandable with all the different things that are included. Fun place to be even if you aren't climbing.

It is a blast climbing here. I love my membership, the sauna, the top notch garage gym style equipment downstairs, rogue barbells, concept rowers, ropes, rings, kettle bells, boxes to jump on, circuit classes etc plus I love the social vibes. I avoid the busy times, the crowds would be my only complaint.

This place is awesome for kids. My boys love it. The food is good for them and beer or coffee for the adults. Since we have discovered it it's all they want to do.

First time here, I got free entry as the guest of a member. The initial registration was pretty quick (just one simple waiver), although I didn't really like the stiff keys of the keyboard. Staff quickly gave a very quick safety briefing and was always smiling - which made me feel very welcome!

I also heard from one of the staff that it's the biggest bouldering-only gym in the country, which is super awesome.

The walls here are generally quite tall and there are 2 (?) top-out walls which were really fun!

After climbing, I purchased a pair of climbing shoes for a friend and got 10% off of it thanks to my member friend once again. The staff was really approachable and helpful when I was looking for the right pair of shoes, too.

If I am in Seattle again I will definitely come back here! Highly recommended!

An excellent place for some bouldering. It's a nice facility with a ton of bouldering routes and rental equipment if you need it. There's a good amount of parking but it's a popular place and the lot can fill up pretty quickly. There's a sauna, a bar/cafe, and yoga classes as well, I believe.

October 23, 2017 08:07

One of the best bouldering spots I've been to! Huge space with many, many routes for all levels...and they go high! Love that the entire floor is a mat...Plus a cafe, gym, and yoga classes offered! Definitely check it out if you're around.

We go every week. The climbs are varied and fun, good for beginners up to experts. There is a cafe and a fairly legit gym area. Preregistration is a very good idea if it is your first time.

October 23, 2017 08:07

I get the hype! There's an open upstairs climbing area and a downstairs climbing area with a cafe and bar. The rental shoes are well maintained and smelled better than expected! My feet were different sizes and they were very accommodating which I very much appreciated. Super friendly staff, and we'll definitely be back soon.

This gym is every climber's dream. I went from Planet Granite in Los Angeles to SBP and I know I can take my climbing to the next level here. The training area is unlike most climbing gyms, they have everything from a moon board to revolving climbing walls. They have an incredible amount of routes, so you won't get bored spending a day there. That being said, I can't say too much about the community just yet. So far I'm very impressed by the gym itself, but everyone seems to stay in their own groups. Definitely a different feel from my last gym.

Amazing place to climb! Lots of fun routes, friendly environment, and the fitness area is just superb! They also have a Cafe that I plan on trying next time I'm there.
