Great staff, good bouldering area and big walls. Was a great time.

My favorite rope climbing gym in the area. They've got a really extensive mix of climbs and a really friendly staff. The bouldering section is on the small side and I wouldn't recommend this place if you were planning on bouldering only, but for rope climbing it can't be beat.

I love the tall ceilings in this place-- it means longer routes! They have a section for bouldering, top roping and lead climbing. I typically frequent a different climbing gym in town, so I had to learn how to use a grigri to belay-- it's super easy, and all of the ropes have one designated belay device, so you don't necessarily need to bring your own.

Great gym for lead/top roping, good vibe etc. Only downside was the laughably low first clip. I could reach it from the ground! Not only is this pointless but it's quite unsafe as the belayer just gets dragged into it on every fall. But everybody seemed to just skip it anyways!

Otherwise great experience :)

Very friendly staff and knowledgeable trainers. I strongly recommend thier starter courses for any one new to top roping and bouldering. Another aspect which may catch your attention is helpful members.

This is my favorite climbing gym in Seattle, so after seeing the others I signed up for this one with minimal hemming and hawing. Passed the belay test in minutes and was using their auto-belay setups. Wonderful!

This is a solid place for top rope climbing. I think they have more lead climbing then I'd like but at least bouldering isn't a majority of the experience. Free lockers and good routes.

Great place for lead and top roping with a small bouldering area too.

We had a party here for our kids and it was such an easy, clean and fun venue. The staff was helpful and the kids had so much fun climbing. The whole family now wants to climb more so it was a good introduction to the sport for us too.

Took the intro to climbing class and the instructor was excellent. The bouldering area is somewhat small but there is variety in climbing here (top roping and lead climbing).

Lots of excellent lead and toprope routes. Decent bouldering as well. If you like to climb you'll like this gym.

My partner and I were travelling in Seattle and decided to go there to do our regular gym climbing session. Great routes, amazing roof, and very friendly staff! PJ did our tr and lead test and offered helpful advice. Love the change room and shower space too. Would love to go back again!

Local 360 has become one of my favorite places with their pitcher mismosas! Waid is the best waiter! He has great energy and always got us what we needed. We will definitely be back again.

Great climbing gym! There's a bit of bouldering but a ton of top rope and lead climbing options on some excellent 40 and 50 foot walls. Staff was friendly and helpful and there was a decent amount of parking across the street. It's a big gym though, with a nice looking workout facility upstairs, so I suspect it could get crowded at times.

Solid variety of lead, top rope, bouldering and auto-belay. Small exercise area upstairs, and a variety of classes also available. Monthly membership is incredibly reasonable for all that is available.

The best rope climbing gym in Seattle, hands down. Great routes, friendly staff and a world class facility. Great for both rope guns and novice climbers.

Nice long lead wall. Employees are friendly enough. Routes everywhere stay up for 3 months on average which is at least a month too long. They finally began including classes in their membership price to compete with Seattle Bouldering Project but sadly offer little for the after 6pm crowd.

My favorite gym in seattle by a wide margin.

1)The route setting is consistently top notch and varied.

2)The lead climbing is absolutely stellar, and what sets VW apart!

3)Plenty of top ropes, set on a variety of features (vertical, slab, roofs and overhangs of varying degrees).

4)legit yoga and fitness classes.

The only thing that I can see as drawbacks are:

1) It can get CROWDED! (Probably because is rules!)

2) Less bouldering than other places with less variety of angles. However, if you want to try hard there are plenty of options!

Awesome routes! Great hours! High walls! If you don't mind walking there does seem to be parking around even on busy nights. Friday nights are surprisingly slow, a good time to go.

For beginners: make sure to take their beginners class where they teach you belay and top rope etc. You must be certified by the gym in order to use the auto belay out belay your friend. For experienced climbers with ample climbing friends this is less of an issue, but for beginners, understand this could be a commitment... and it's worth it! Rock climbing has changed my life!

Looking for top ropes and lead climb this is your jam. Awesome gym though the layout makes it feel crowded (which it often is anyways). The staff are super nice but better make sure you stay vigilant. There's a lot of people that are either A) careless B) oblivious that you'll have to deal with.

A victim of their own success. It has become impossible to climb here during the week from 5-9pm. Last time I was there I spent 2 hours and got 2 climbs in. There were lines for every rout.

It is a very nice place to go together with friends to have fun and gain a little experience of mountain climbing and the challenges of bouldering.

Enrolled my daughter in the afternoon climbing for 10 year olds. The classes were crowded and a quite chaotic on the first day. So many people in the climbing area on the first day that a timid kid can't get on the wall. She was skipped on the top roped climb. I also witnessed adult men in the bouldering area right next to the young kids (who were lightly supervised) climbing up to about the 5 ft mark and then purposely falling to the mat on their backs like dead bugs (some type of exercise?) but I saw no evidence that they looked before making this fall and one of them nearly squished a kid. I was going to chalk it up to the first day of the new session and see what happened because my daughter is an experienced climber but she felt the same way and didn't want to go back.

Great walls and routes, awesome staff, and the perfect collection of other workout equipment upstairs. I haven't done any other classes/yoga, but have heard great things. I love that they invite physical therapists adn trainers for free consultations pretty regularly. Because it's a great place to climb, it gets *really* busy during peak hours - busier than I remember Stone Gardens being, although I haven't gone there in a while, so things might have changed. I often stand in line for top-ropes *and* lead routes at VW.

I haven't seen the other climbing gym but this place has everything you need. THEY EVEN HAVE YOGA! Not just a crappy side of yoga, but legit wood floor & feel good yoga. Top rope, auto belays, lead, boulder, training area, weights, you name it.

If you're looking for a shiny new gym with fancy new equipment, you're looking at the wrong place. This place is a classic no nonsense climbing gym.

October 23, 2017 08:01

Don't bother coming here if you're into bouldering. There's a small area on the side with about 2-3 routes of each grade and thats it.

Top roping looks promising, but you need certified on an ATC belay device even though they use Gigris, INCLUDING if you just want to use the auto belay.

I'm new to the city, and needed a climbing gym to call my home. This place has the best lead/ top rope climbing in the greater Seattle area. Really great environment and awesome training system boards for the avid climber. If you're more of a boulderer, their Redmond location has more bouldering than the Seattle one.
