May 1, 2020. I pick up my mail 2 doors down from this gym at the UPS Store. While picking up my mail today, I noticed that the place was completely empty. There was no signage on the doors indicating anything. I pick up my mail weekly, so this must have just happened.

DO NOT GET A MEMBERSHIP HERE! This gym is poorly run and unprofessional. I had a membership here for about a year and cancelled my membership prior to moving out of the area. I went there in person to cancel and was told I would be charged a $74 cancellation fee and would no longer be charged after that. Well, after they charged me $74, I continued to get ILLEGALLY charged month after month. I have tried calling and emailing them multiple times but nobody responds. I have been in touch with a lady from corporate and even she has tried to contact the manager of this gym but they won't respond.

DO NOT SPEND YOUR MONEY HERE!!!! I have been unable to close a month to month membership for over a year. I have called and physically visited this location several times to address this. Each time Im assured the account is closed but Im still being charged. There was absolutely no follow up on the matter. There are plenty of other facilities out there that will treat you fairly. You have been warned! Go somewhere else

I have been here not one, but twice to sign up. You cannot get in the building, nor can you reach anyone by phone. I'll take my business elsewhere.

I mainly joined this gym for 2 reasons: It's the perfect location for me (close to home and work), and it's well suited for the strength training I'm doing. I love having my own key fob and 24 hour access. And at $35 a month, it's a no brainer. I just didn't want my fitness regimen to be in a huge gym.

My credit card was compromised and needed to update my payment info... NO ONE is ever working in there; and I called and left voicemails (NO ONE ever called back). Had to go through their corporate office to get info updated! I switched to the one on Cedar Rd. And sooooo much better equipment, management, and all around cleaniness!

This gym is trash simple as that. If you need a gym nearby this is the place, otherwise don't waste your money. All equipment is broken and outdated. The owner is a fat chubby white guy who cares more about money than business.

So happy that I joined this gym. Always so clean and very well taken care of! And there is nothing like walking on and being greeted with a great smile! Great place with even better staff!

I very much like the people (owners, managers, trainers, members) at this gym. It has all the equipment and programs I need for total body fitness.

Great Gym. Never crowded and always clean. The organized training and one on one training with the staff is perfect for anyone wanting to achieve their fitness goals.

I joined the gym many months ago but never found time to go. Jen Dick at this location approached me about doing a boot camp/weight loss challenge they were starting in January. I didn't join in on that class, but was friends with several of the folks who did. The results of "before" and "after" were amazing! Enough so, that it motivated me to join the Spring/Summer session.
I'm in my late 40s and haven't worked out in oh so long, but Phil and Jen have been amazing at motivating me during the sessions. Phil encourages you to push past your mental boundaries, and Jen is so supportive of my efforts.
The facility is always nice and clean, and the machines are in excellent working condition.
I would definitely recommend this location!

this club is horrible, I've been to many of gyms in my time even working for the ymca for almost 4 years, trying to get ahold of anyone at this location and trying to cancel a membership is impossible on-top of this i was going to just keep my membership since i found an anytime fitness near my house just to find they are now charging me more a month without saying a damn thing to me.

Was going to join today. After wandering around for a while, the staff member finally decided to ask what I was looking for... Being unfamiliar with Anytime Fitness... I asked "well, how does this work?" Her answer... "You join if you want to work out"
Ahhhh... I thought to myself, what a brilliant concept!!! But instead of sarcasm, I asked politely "well, how much does this cost?" Trying to engage in conversation, however, she turned, went into a the office... Looked around a bit and put three plans on the desk... "These are the options"
I scanned them briefly... But already knew this young lady wound not be signing me up for anything today...
I told her I would think about it and promptly left.
I like the concept... But if every location is staffed like this one... Count me out.

All the owner cares about is making his money & doesn't have any regard for his members and has trained his staff to feel the same way. I have had a MUCH different experience with an anytime fitness in North Carolina with an owner who genuinely cares. Not to mention, this location is very small & doesn't have the best equipment. Definitely sucks I've been stuck with them since I moved during my contract, very thankful I'm moving again soon & would absolutely give 0 stars if I could. Do NOT waste your money with these people. Not to mention I called the gym I signed up with in North Carolina in regards to a voicemail I received today stating that I needed to update my card information- Clint, the owner, who actually RUNS the gym, said he couldn't update it because UNFORTUNATELY my "home" gym is now in Chesapeake. He went on to say call Chesapeake location and have them update it for me & have them waive the late fee... I called and Kristen answered, said I would be charged a 20$ fee, I asked if she could waive it, she said she would have to call & ask.. Which with my experience with her in the past regarding other issues, she never follows through with her word- so now I am stuck paying 50$ for the month of April- for a horrible gym. Very unhappy.

So I have been a member of Anytime Fitness for four years now. (Once you sign up you get to go to all of the locations) this is by far the most disgusting location I have been to. I'm aware that the members have the responsibility of wiping down the equipment after each use, but there is no way that the staff is also cleaning it like they should be for it to look this gross. I have never been in there when there wasn't sweat on the seats and cardio equipment sticky. The bathrooms are just as bad last time I went in there the shower floor was black and there was a bug squished in there. Even the toilet seats were gross. Don't get me wrong I know its a gym and its going to have some grime. But! Anytime Fitness is a franchise! They have quality and customer service standards! At the very least it should be sanitary! Also, what I think may be they worse part and serve as a WARNING TO ANYONE THINKING ABOUT SIGNING UP AT THIS LOCATION!!!!! They require you to sign in on a sheet at the front of the gym you have to write down your NAME, ADDRESS, PHONE NUMBER, AGE, AND EMAIL they do not dispose of your information at all they just let it sit out front for weeks for anyone who walks into the gym to see. But this is what happens when you have staff who doesn't really seem to care about their job or the company. Also the people who own this location also own the other Chesapeake location on Carmichael near Hickory.

Good gym, didn't know about a 30 day cancelation notice I haven't been here since January and haven't used it. Kinda wish they would of called me to let me know I could renew or even just leave without the extra payment. The gym is one of the most expensive and doesn't seem like much care is involved. They offered me $3 off every month. I was paying $36. What kind of deal is that when planet fitness is only $10 if you offered me $10 I'd stay. Overall decent experience but definitely not recommend!!!

After being a member for a bit over a month, I felt the need to write a review to express how pleased I was with this facility.

First off, it's not the Y or One Life, so you should adjust your expectations as necessary. I often work night shift, so I needed access to a place that was always open. I chose Anytime Fitness because after a month of being a member, you are able to go to any of their locations. I was helped by Kayla, who was friendly and gave honest answers to my questions.

The exterior of the building might fool you. It looks like something from the 90's. This can't be helped. However, the interior is phenomenal. It's very open and airy, bright with high ceilings, and CLEAN. I visited the Ghent location recently, and it was nearly the opposite; the equipment was clustered close together and everything felt cramp. The lighting was dim and made the place uninviting.

They have a standard selection of cardio machines. All high-end and in great condition. Their circuit equipment is good enough, although not as comprehensive as the Y's (granted, your paying half the cost as well).

I'd also like to comment on a previous review. They stated the bathrooms were not clean. I have not encountered this issue with the Men's restroom. The shower floor seems fine, although I still would wear shower shoes if I were to use it, because why wouldn't you?

They also stated, "They require you to sign in on a sheet at the front of the gym you have to write down your NAME, ADDRESS, PHONE NUMBER, AGE, AND EMAIL they do not dispose of your information at all they just let it sit out front for weeks for anyone who walks into the gym to see."

To clarify, that is for GUESTS only, not paying members. It still is a legitimate concern, but members won't have their information exposed like that.

Lastly, I'd like to offer some suggestions to management if they ever read this:
- There are many treadmills and ellipticals. Perhaps remove one of these and add one more bike. There is currently only one bike and a recumbent bike.

- Add a drink machine to the sitting area. This would be very convenient for when people like me forget to bring water.
