I was pretty intimidated to take a class here but have been so pleasantly surprised by how supportive and inclusive this studio is! I thought that I would stick out like a big tall sore thumb, but the front desk staff and instructors always seem to recognize when there's a newbie on the scene, and they make a special effort to say hi and give the lay of the land - and the other folks taking the classes are really welcoming and encouraging. I've learned so much from my fellow class-takers! And as for the workout - it's awesome. It's intense, yes, but it's somehow also super motivational - you don't actually get discouraged by the burn, you want to conquer it! I can feel myself getting stronger and more confident with each class.

One of the best barre studios in the area! The staff and instructors are all so friendly and welcoming. A new, challenging, and fun workout comes with each class! I always leave feeling better and stronger each time.

I took my first class at Xtend - it was circuit 7. I looooooved it. From the environment of the studio (chic, friendly, gets down to business), to the members (everyone was so welcoming), to the instructor (she knew her stuff) to the class (the circuit workout moves had me feeling like I was for sure going to come out looking like a VS model). Woo weee it's what I've been looking for. An all in one studio that offers variety and has a good vibe. It doesn't hurt the swag (clothes & accessories) is cute too. Without a doubt- I'll be purchasing a membership!

I've been going to Xtend Barre Old Town for almost a year. I started going one or two times a week and left so sore that I knew it must be doing something. This is not your average barre class. After a few months I started going more and more regularly and eventually became totally addicted to the workout. The community there is amazing and even an introverted person like me has made a few workout buddies. As someone who looks forward to things like wine, cheese, and Netflix, (and more wine) I never thought I would ever be someone who looks forward to working out... this place has literally changed my life. And a bonus- I've lost 15 pounds since I started at Xtend without changing my questionable eating and drinking habits! ;)

I'm not particularly proud of this fact, but I never really worked out. I decided after some minor health issues that I wanted to feel like I had some control over my health and I wanted to do what I could to hopefully remain as healthy as possible. I have never taken any group type classes and I have only had a brief gym membership that I used maybe once...I wanted to find something that would increase my energy and give me some muscle tone, but most of all, I knew I needed to find something that I would not quit and that I could stick to. I had heard of barre classes and did some research in the area to compare cost, class times, and reviews. Based on those things I picked Xtend Barre in Alexandria. My first class was an eye opener. I knew I had terrible endurance but when I had to quit not even halfway through class I knew it was worse than I thought. I felt defeated and embarrassed and thought of never coming back. At the same time, I felt like I had something to prove to myself. Thankfully, the front desk girl reached out to me after class to check on me and the owner reached out as well. I never expected that and I got reassurance that I'm not the first person that had to take a break from class, and they gave me some tips for any future classes that gave me some hope. I learned basics like the fact that I should probably hydrate better (like I said, I'm new at this), that I can skip advancements or start with modifications of certain moves, and that I can take breaks if I need them etc. I feel like some of the pressure I had put on myself was taken off and I decided to get over my own insecurities and go back. I'm happy to report that I made it through the entire second class and every class since then. I have been going for about 9 months now and am so very glad I stuck with it. Here are some reasons I love this barre studio:
-The instructors are awesome. They motivate you, they are kind, they are experienced and they make you feel welcome every time. I am definitely on the shy side but I still feel like I am part of this group.
-The classes are challenging but doable. One thing an instructor said early on in a class stuck with me "it doesn't get easier, but you get better". There are still parts I find more challenging than others but I love the variety and the sense that every class is different, but always targeting all parts of my body. Some days I feel like I can take most of the advancements, other days I take pretty much none and stick to the basics, but I know that that's ok too. I know just showing up and sticking to this routine is half the battle. And surprising even myself, I look forward to coming most days, and on the days I'm dragging, I am still always glad I came afterwards.
-The schedule is great for me. I work pretty regular hours and feel like I am able to catch a class most days if I want to and some on the weekend as well.
-Results. I didn't really start this for weight loss, more for health and toning, so I can only speak to those things (for the weight loss I would probably need to target my carb habit more). I feel like I definitely have better muscle definition than before, and I have seen an increase in energy and endurance. I have also seen an improvement in my resting heart rate and also feel like it's been a good addition to manage stress and anxiety. The combination of cardio and toning through weights, movement, resistance bands etc. is just the right amount of everything to feel like you're getting a good full body workout.

In conclusion, the only thing that would have held me back from writing such a glowing review is the fear that everyone will start seeing the light and filling up all the classes..But I'm honestly more than happy to recommend this place to anyone who will listen!

If you want lean muscles and increase your core strength, you have to go to Xtend Barre Old Town. The class instructors are friendly and absolutely amazing, offering a variety of classes (Barre, HIIT, TRX Suspend, Pilates Stick) throughout the day, and never repeating the same routine. During class they help with correcting your form, while making you feel comfortable and confident. Xtend Barre Old Town is the best barre studio!

I bought a class pass voucher on Gilt City to try this gym. I was interested in yoga mainly. I wasn't a huge fan of the instructors as they spoke very fast and were difficult to follow for a beginner. I tried a barre class as well and the instructor also was difficult to follow.
Perhaps this gym just wasn't a good fit for me. Also a bummer that the voucher I purchased expired before I could use all the passes since yoga was offered so infrequently.
I wouldn't recommend driving to get here as parking nearby is quite difficult. Either walk or take metro/a bus.

XtendBarre has been the best workout for me to date! The variety of classes and instructors is amazing. If you look for a mixture of ballet, yoga, Pilates, balancing and strength you need to try XtendBarre old town. A great bonus is that all the instructors are amazing and it is a really fun community. #xtendbarreoldtown

Let's just say that Xtend barre Old town knows how to do business. This studio is a real gem offering a variety of workouts, very flexible schedule, exellent instructors and great customer service. I've been visiting regularly for over 7 months and not a single time I left dissatisfied with the workout.
In addition to the regular barre workout, there are also TRX, HIIT, Yoga and Pilates Stick classes which will make you rediscover certain muscles in your body. From one time to the next, the workouts are always different, not allowing your body to get used to a routine.
If you're looking for a challenging and exciting workout, please stop by and try it - you won't be disappointed. Promised!

Fabulous, fun, and "fitastic" in every way!

I have been to many a workout class, so when a friend suggested coming here, I was all in. I have read a lot of reviews on barre classes and was a little nervous to check out the "vibe" of this class. That being said, I was greeted with a smile at the front door. The receptionist answered all of my questions and had a great attitude when doing so.

The class itself - Wow - I felt constantly challenged throughout the class. I looked up at the clock once and almost cried knowing I still had another thirty minutes to make my muscles quiver. You will feel the burn and it will be challenging, but this isn't a crippling workout where you won't be able to walk the next few days. I can tell I was using muscles I rarely use.

The only negative is the price, but in this area, $20/class for specialized workouts is normal.

They also only have one bathroom, but it is stocked with anything/everything you could want. (hair ties, towels, shampoo, conditioner, deodorant, etc.
