I have been doing CrossFit since 2008, and have coaching it since 2011. Over that time I have been through 4 other CrossFit gyms and coached at 3 of them, and Third Coast CrossFit exceeds the expectations of what is required of a gym.
My only constructive feedback would be to find a way to incorporate extra seminars or clinics to focus on the mechanics of Olympic lifting. These lifts are complex and require many repetitions to become fluent. Realistically, this is an area of improvement within all CrossFit gyms that it is limited by time constraints for both coaches and members. This is by no means a problem with Third Coast CrossFit, but rather CrossFit as a whole and the busy schedules we all have now-a-days.
Regardless, this gym and its coaches demonstrate what it means to care for the success of its members. Jake is one of the most brilliant coaches I've come across since my time in CrossFit. As a physical therapist, I specialize in movement analysis, which requires knowledge of human anatomy, joint mechanics, muscle actions, and proper body positioning. Jake is able to pick up on faulty movement patterns and address this with the members appropriately. He spotted a faulty position in my lift that no one else has seen in the eight years I've been doing this.
This isn't to say that Jake is the only quality coach at this gym, he has help create a team of coaches that will spend time to ensure that all members are prepared for the workout and have all the equipment necessary for their performance. Maddie is another coach that relentlessly encourages and will motivate you the way you prefer to be motivated. Billy is another coach that will take his time to ensure you understand the lift and keeps safety as a priority. All these coaches have done a tremendous job in establishing a sense of community that keeps people coming back to Third Coast CrossFit. If I didn't have to move across to the other side of Houston, I would, without a doubt, make this gym a permanent home for my workouts.
