The YMCA Tellepsen is perfect for my work out routine. I run, weightlift, stretch in the women's area, and occasionally will attend a yoga session. The amenities are great from the several accessible showers, spa, pool, lockers, and cafe. My monthly membership is totally worth it! I even got one of my friends to come with me and we go almost daily.

Wonderful, welcoming, well-equipped gym and community, especially the Women's Center. I'm typically intimidated by the fit spandex crowd in other gyms but here you don't have to worry about that, although many are indeed quite fit. All ages and shapes are welcomed here.

I love the gym, classes etc. My thing however is the pool, and this is terrible. Water full of chemicals and poor ventilation will leave your eyes/nose burning, and a headache for most part of the day! Water looks disgusting and lifeguards may as well be maniquies. oh, and the pool is not grounded, so forget about swimming on a day where the weather forecast mentions the possibility of thunderstorms. Such a shame considering this is indoors . GYM/Classes 5 starts - Pool - z e r o.

The gym is wonderful. But the pool and lifeguard staff are horrific!Their demeanor towards the members is absolutely unacceptable! It is located very conveniently in the heart of the city. This is the only reason I will continue to train there.

I went to the Tellepsen Family Downtown YMCA two times, 40 days apart, and the heated whirlpool was disgusting both times. The water is brown, filthy and had foam everywhere on the top of the water. Inexcusable. I got an ear infection from this filthy pool. The rest of the place is top notch, except the lap pool is not maintained properly either. Get a water chemist please. The entire whirlpool should be drained and refilled with treated water monthly since they do not enforce showering before entry. Even the old Shadowbend Woodlands Y has crystal clean whirlpool and lap pool.

Hygiene is very much lacking in Men's sauna. Just saying. Everyone walks in with tennis shoes unnoticed and the cesspool in the middle of the sauna is always there for members to step into.

The downtown Y was so wonderful when it first opened. I called it a country club feeling! Now, it has sadly gone steeply downhill. The pool is dirty and cold. The guards do not care about swimmers. If it weren't for my barre class, I'd leave. I likely will anyway. :(

Every single time when I take my 3-years old son to the pool, small with warm water, despite on it's warm, he gets sick, he has fever right on the next day. I dry his hair and wrap him with towels when we go to the locker room. But I think it's because it's very cold in a locker rooms, especially in winter period or water keep bacterias of all who swam there before. I actually told Management that it's cold in locker rooms, nobody cares

I wish they would enforce people to wear swimming caps, it's nasty when smb is swimming around with loose hair

My husband and I have been using this Y for about a year now and it has been an excellent experience. The facilities are wonderful for the price and the convenience is hard to beat.

The gym facility is awesome - classes are awesome. However, I will never bring my child her for childcare again. I went to go pick up my daughter and saw one of the women in the back aggressively changing another infant and letting her head swing all over while picking her up... my daughter cries the minute she sees their faces and is hysterical every time I pick her up... something is just not right here (she is now 4 months old). The ladies in the back taking care of infants don't seem to be very patient, and I've watched them become overwhelmed when all the babies start crying leading to careless actions when handling other peoples children. I think the management needs to re-evaluate who they are hiring back there! Hope this helps any moms out there!!

Great place. I enjoy coming here. I especially like the yoga classes

It is a very good gym, best YMCA I have been to in Houston. Other gyms have higher monthly rates in the area downtown. Compared to other YMCAs this one is much nicer, I mostly stopped going to EA Smith in the SE part of town because it is a much worse facility (Perry is much better). The locker rooms are kept well and I have not seen anything unsightly. For others giving low ratings for quality of pools, that is almost a given so unless that is your focus for coming I would ignore.

Very nice facility. Clean, updated equipment, nice locker rooms, lots of choices. Indoor pool with hot tub and sauna.

The membership is pricey but it is worth it if you come here often enough! They have great facilities and the staff is friendly. Parking can be a problem during peak hours
