Let me detail my experience:
Parking is no big deal, which is surprising in Wash/Heights/Memorial District. The Yoga Studio is rooted beneath Elan Memorial Park Luxury Apartments. They have ample parking!
The Foyer/Studio is refreshingly spartan, big open spaces and bright faces greet you. If you're too early, you can put your things away in cubbies and racks they provide and enjoy a nice cup of chamomile on the couch.
Class starts promptly so I suggest to get there a few minutes early.
Wendy Foster-Elliot, Owner/Salty Birth-Mother has created a warm loving space in which the breath, which is the seat of power in Yoga/Meditation, is extremely emphasized. The breath here is never, ever taken for granted. Everyone breathes as one and moves as one, creating a movement of yoga that is flow and powerful.
And Sweat, Yes you will.
The Studio was carefully thought out in its dozens of tiny details. Scheduling a class is no problem and it's very accommodating
to a working schedule with the earliest class at 6 am and the latest at 8 pm
You don't even have to bring a towel, mat or even soap! The studio is fully stocked with Straps, Manduka mats and Yogitoes yoga mat towels, blocks, pillows and hand towels.
After practice, if you need to rush to work or a date, the bathrooms are fully stocked with the essentials: Body wash, Face wash, Shampoo and Conditioner, Razors and Towels.
Wendy is passionate, compassionate, and one of the kindest souls that I've ever met met. She holds a donation only class on Fridays called, "Happy Hour", which benefits a charity of the month.
If you come, chances are you will see her manning the fort, she has put a lot of love into her studio. I love that she and her staff of yoga instructors are very approachable and extremely down-to-earth, I sometimes wonder if she hand-picked them or if they simply gravitate towards her energy but they all share the same passion for yoga and love to teach.
Something particularly odd that I noticed right away was that the Studio itself, has no mirrors. I find that so refreshing! It allows us to all just be ourselves without trying to attain someone's "idea" of perfection. It literally tells our ego to shut-the-hell up and let go!
No Judgement,
No Gurus,
No BS
---And that is an excellent aspect of Salt Power Yoga.
Bottom line: You will breath, you will stretch until your heart wants to burst open and your salty sweat lands on the mat under your powerful Warrior Pose!
