One of the last real gyms in Memphis
I would give this gym a zero. Super DISHONEST gym. Called to cancel and payed hundreds of dollars to cancel the contract. We were told that it was canceled yet the gym still charged us for months after telling us that the contract had been canceled. We called clear up the miscommunication and they act like they have no idea what happened because there is no record of the required amount to cancel being paid. I do not recommend this gym AT ALL. Stay away.
I stopped by today and got a great tour by James. It looks totally different from 8 years ago. I like that the spin class and yoga is now 7 days a week. I am really considering coming back.

This gym is comfortable and even though other gyms claim "no gym-timidation," this feels like a more authentic space, acclimated to achieving real goals. There are classes, scales, trainers, and tons of machines and free weights. What has sold me on the Poplar Plaza location in particular, however, is the women's workout room.

Been a member of French Riviera over 30 years, love that place. Training there, I have won two world championships, Masters Track and field (shot put). French Riviera has everything you need to get into the best physical shape of your life, they have directly help me to pursue winning two world championships. Been a loyal member for 30 plus years.

My Son joined this gym while he was in college. He left over twelve months ago, and he lives over 200 miles away. The membership has been cancelled 4 times and hundreds of dollars in cancellation fees paid. The gym continues to charge us. I do not recommend anyone using this gym. They are very dishonest.

The gym is nice, lots of good equipment that seems to be well maintained and upgraded at a reasonable rate. I also enjoyed the free classes offered throughout the week; especially spin. The problem is that all this is offset by their nefarious sales practice and the atrocious billing company that they utilize. First off they rope you into a free training and then pressure sell you into a personal training membership. When you decide that you don't like how the personal training is going, they say "Aww shucks you signed a contract." When you block their ability to charge your debit card they will send the hounds after you, a company called Paramount Acceptance. PA will incessantly harass you and try to mess with your credit. In an age where most gyms offer lower monthly rates and no commitment month to month memberships, avoid this place like the plague. The larger facility isn't worth all the other shenanigans that come with it. I ended up having to pay 500$ for services I wasn't satisfied with and ultimately never even used. French Riv runs on an old, outdated business model, and I hope they go the way of the dinosaurs like most companies who operate this way.

Staff is very warming and knowledgeable about everything and willing to help and want to help

So I originally joined at the union gym then that closed and kept going at the poplar gym. The gym was ok, one water fountain, and broken equipment (which I can deal with, I usually fix it myself while I'm on the machine) until I decided to cancel my membership. They are charging an extra month plus $25 to cancel. Even though my year contract has been over for a few months I still have to pay to cancel. Luckily Fitness 1440 is going to give me my first month free because French Riviera is charging a cancellation fee. I won't recommend this gym to anyone... very lame guys sorry
Excellent facility with tons of equipment. One of The best gyms in Memphis including fitness classes and knowledgeable personal trainers.
The gym is huge and you barely ever have to wait for equipment. My favorite are the yoga classes led by Mary Suddoth who has so much experience and is skilled to lead the most novice to the most skilled yoga student.
I have been a member of French Riviera for about 5 years now. I have been going to the Poplar location exclusively for over a year. They have a wide selection of classes that I really enjoy. I absolutely love my personal trainer, Cathy! She is extremely knowledgeable & so encouraging. She makes our personal training sessions fun & interesting. She pushes me to try new things, but also recognizes & respects limitations I have due to a knee injury several years ago. She trains my two daughters & I together & is able to adapt our workouts to meet each of our needs. Thanks, Cathy!!

I like this place, have everything for training, and is a good price by month, just need more Customer support and I would like If close more late the weekends.
