Master Whitaker is a great instructor. I trained with him for ten years. He is always upbeat and encourages you to keep going. If you want to learn how to defend yourself come and let this man teach you .

Master Lawrence is a great martial arts teacher and had been a friend for 10 years, however I question his professionalism. I referred my mother to him in a crisis situation to receive martial arts training and in my opinion, he has inappropriately pursued her to go to the movies and dinner and they have been have been going out for months. A martial arts instructor should not mix an instructor/ student relationship with dating. One of the main reasons, I stopped taking personal lessons from him after 10 years of instruction is because of his continued inappropriate relationship with my mother. I don't recommend Urban Defense.

Urban Combat is the perfect class for any man, woman, or teenager living in Philly. You will learn self-defense tactics, and in a short time you will notice positive changes in your physique and spirit. Since I began taking this class almost a year ago, not only have I become more confident on the street, but also my confidence has surged in other aspects of my life including my job, my relationships, and the sports I play.
To top it off, I quickly realized that when I joined the Urban Defense Martial Arts and Fitness Center, I was embraced by a wonderful family. Master Lawrence Whitaker and his instructors create a very warm and friendly training environment so do not be afraid to visit and try out any of the superb classes offered at the Center.
I hope to see you there!

Lawrence is the best trainer I have ever worked with! His workouts are custom-tailored to fit your need. Every time I go, I feel invigorated! He works you hard, while having a lot of fun! He always keeps his workouts different, so you never get bored. It is a great experience every time I go to the gym.
