Great staff, clean facilities and a killer workout! After my first class I was sore for days, but I still came back as soon as I could for round 2. Every instructor has a different style, and it's interesting to find what works best for you while also being able to work at your own pace. Highly recommend for a fun, unique workout which will leave you exhausted but wanting to come back again.

Great place to work out! I tried the usual gym membership at a normal gym and ended up paying for one and not able to stay motivated to keep going, that was not the case at CKO! Every instructor there makes working out super fun and challenging and that keeps me going! The whole staff is super friendly and always wiling to help out! The classes pretty much run the whole day, which makes it easier to be able to find a class that suits your schedule. Would definitely recommend to anyone that wants to do something fun to stay fit!

CKO is fantastic. Besides the regular kickboxing classes, they also have circuit classes and ones that are a mix. They have great times available, including early morning and late at night. The instructors are all fantastic, making the classes interesting and fun while still getting a great workout. Each class is unique and move at a fast, but not too fast, pace, so I am never bored but also never have difficulties keeping up with changing boxing routines. They are also very helpful if you have questions on technique. I would definitely recommend CKO.

CKO Center City has absolutely made a positive impact on my life. Each instructor comes in ready to give you a good workout. Each instructor also brings in their own style which is nice because you can switch classes every day and get in a different type of workout. You can also find an instructor that fits your vibe and stick with them! I have gained so much confidence in myself and I feel like I have the ability to protect myself because of the techniques I have learned. I have been going to CKO in Center City for about 7 months now and I will keep my membership with them for as long as I can. I absolutely love it here. One of the best decisions I have ever made. It's just you and the bag.

They are scammers! beware ! don't trust their whole 30 days before cancelling fees because they DON'T respect it !! I'm a college student, and i had to stop going because i didn't want to keep paying even though i wouldn't attend. I properly gave them a month advance notice and they said i had an option to freeze my account instead of cancelling them because i would lose my student membership. I was like ok it's not a bad option. My freeze was supposed to end in May but in early february i found out i was gonna be abroad and wouldn't be able to go anymore so i emailed and called them then and they said i had to $120 cancellation fee!!!!!
Like what?? i was literally giving them more than 2 months notice and those scammers just kept telling me they told me they were gonna charge me from the beginning, which hello.... they DIDN'T !!
PLease save your money and go to an actual Kickboxing/Muay Thai gym.
First, they don't even show the proper kickboxing moves, proper postures, and all the most important basics of kickboxing ! it's just a workout place to release some sweat.
I joined an actual kickboxing/muay thai gym later on. So MUCH better, cheaper and NO CANCELLATION FEES Or required memberships.
VIII Limbs Muay Thai. They have a $65 trial period, which is 2 WEEKS trial and give you gloves plus a t-shirt. if you like it then during that period you can pay the month-to-month membership at your own convenience. It's a real community there and it's like an actual school because they have levels and exams at the end of each 3 months!!

Like many users mentioned this trial workout is not free. The gloves will cost you $21, but if you choose to sign up for a membership (two month minimum, they do ask if you are a student as well) the studio will cover the cost of the gloves. There are no class packs as the front desk told me you are "learning a skill" so there is only membership, nothing past the trial to help you decide. The front desk seemed friendly enough when I signed up, but was standoffish even bordering on rude at other points when I arrived, seeming annoyed to pull out the iPad and interrupt whatever they were talking about to allow me to sign in.
The workout definitely had me breaking a sweat but the "introduction to basics" was very quick and left me and the other new girl with me way behind the whole time. The running in such a tight space is awkward and sometimes "fast people are sent down the middle" or other exceptions. Jump ropes are so long and the ceiling so low that I was hitting pipes on the ceiling and trying to turn to avoid walls and bags too.
While it is "at your own pace", the callouts are fast and the combos can leave a new person floundering. Note it's also not very injury friendly, there are almost no modifications offered and sometimes this can leave you left with improvisation. The instructors like at any gym all have their own style but some have you sprinting all over and not checking or emphasizing technique during time on the bag, and others will check technique religiously and even went so far as to say "bad habits" had been developed after only taking a few classes there.
Overall, kickboxing was fun, there's great storage, lockers and showers and if you can deal with the limited space for training go for it. But the mix of teaching styles that contradict rather than complement, the lack of options when the membership price is steep, the free trial isn't free and there's no extra time to help you decide if this isn't for you, the hot and cold attitude with desk staff and the very small space was a turnoff, and I won't be coming back.

BEWARE: $250 cancellation fee. I switched jobs and could not afford CKO anymore, so I gave them a 30 day notice and they told me I only had two options: to pay $84 a month the rest of my contract or pay $250 to cancel. I couldn't afford it anymore yet they were trying to take more of my money. I have been a member of many clubs before and this has NEVER happened. They finally gave me a third option to freeze my account which allowed me to not pay the monthly fee for 9 months and then I will have to either start paying monthly again or the $250.

I went in to pay the $250 before my freeze ended this past week and they tried to take $84 PLUS $250 because I "didn't give them a 30 day notice" except I gave them one 8 months ago...... they did waive that $84 fee but I think it is RIDICULOUS they require $250 for cancellation.

Just a warning. And now they charge for towel rentals. FYI.

I do not recommend coming here. There are much better actual boxing gyms around that offer so so much more.

This is the best sports club I've ever been to with amazing instructors who will support and motivate you all the way and make sure you're doing it right! I went to CKO on Walnut St not knowing whether kickboxing was for me but I found it the best workout I've ever had. I would highly recommend this gym to everyone who wants to improve their well being no matter of their age. The gym is clean and has a great downtown location, the staff are very friendly and supportive. Unfortunately I had to leave Philadelphia but I wish these guys all the very best in the future.

Buyer beware. The 'free trial' is not free. You will pay $21.60 for gloves.

I signed up for the free trial and attended a class on Monday 11/13. When looking at the studio i noticed a livingsocial deal was available for $37. I could have received 6 classes and gloves. I decided I would check out the space before buying the deal. NOTHING in the confirmation email mentions needing to bring or purchase gloves.

After checking in and filling out paperwork, I was putting my things in a cubby and a member of the front desk came over and mentioned I would need to buy gloves, but I could check out when class was over. I decided I would purchase the livingsocial deal on my phone after class and apply the deal to my first class, instead of purchasing gloves for the $21.60.

After class, I went to the front desk to let them know I would be purchasing the deal to apply towards the class, considering I could get 5 additional classes and the gloves for 16 more dollars, when compared to just the cost of the gloves.

I was told that is not allowed and that they could either give me a second free trial or waive the cost of the gloves if I purchased a monthly package. I told them that seems dishonest, considering nothing told me prior to the class that I needed to purchase or provide my own gloves. I've been to other boxing studios where gloves were offered for the first class.

The front desk even agreed that the practice was dishonest and confessed that they had never actually seen a confirmation email from the website - just assumed what it included. I pulled up the email and showed them there was nothing in the message that mentioned purchasing gloves.

They even offered to call the owner to discuss, but the answer did not change. Not a way to start a relationship with a client. Left the studio feeling cheated, and out $21.60 for a 'free trial'.

I was told the owner would reach out, but three days later and nothing. Dishonest and disappointed.

I had never kickboxed before, but decided to get a 6-class Groupon to try it this summer at CKO and I am so glad I did!! Each time I went, it was a really hard, sweaty, and fun workout to music, and everyone who works there is so friendly and willing to answer any questions. All the instructors I had (cassie, steph, and andrew) were really energetic and different so it never got boring. I always went in the morning before work, and it was never that crowded, plus they have showers, and I always left feeling so energized. If I was staying longer in the city, I would definitely get a membership. Thanks CKO!!

the workouts are very intense however, well worth it. You will sweat and have fun all in one. The instructors are very helpful with you and the staff is very friendly and patient .... great place to workout so glad i joined

Before I could even enter CKO at 7am, I was sexually harassed by two guys coming out from a work out. It was a horrible way to start my morning, especially when I felt I was in a safe space. Those kind of folks coming out of CKO are not the kind people I want to start my morning/ do my workout around.

Buyer beware--especially local college students. CKO in Philly promotes their business as being college student friendly and totally rips them off after sign up. Multiple friends and I have been charged fees for many months after discontinuing membership. You tell them at the studio you are graduating or discontinuing and they keep charging and charging you for nothing---and then claim all these policies that they told you in person you did't have to follow. Really bad news. DO NOT JOIN!

The workout is really intense - like a boot-camp class that includes boxing. Great way to get in overall shape fast. It is a little more intense than ILoveKickboxing. The people who work there are friendly and welcoming. The issue I had was some of the people that go there were really rude and snobby. I just cannot go there alone and wish I had a friend to go with then maybe I would have joined. But just go there for the workout and ignore the rude people. Great workout!
