Great basketball ( and other uses ) court. Indoor swimming pool. Small exercise room but with everything you need. Very laid back and amiable.

Nice gym. Many programs for all ages. From weights to water aerobics.

Today, after a yoga class I asked at the main desk and in the office about the survey for the Silversneakers program. No One seemed to know what I was talking about nor cared!

Then, there was no paper in the suggestion box!

Love this place. They have an amazing daycare with creative and intelligent staff, and my daughter and I are always greeted at the front desk like they've known us forever. Highly recommended.

What a wonderful community center. (Note that it is a private membership center for the community, and not connected to Portland Parks and Rec) They offer fitness rooms, classes in everything from yoga to adult ballet, a wide variety of youth programs, and extra activities such as craft fair and evening events with speakers from the community. Indoor heated pool, too! Now this is a community center, it is not a fancy gym but it is affordable, clean, and the staff are friendly. My kids have sharpened their bike riding and swimming skills, and gained confidence, through the classes offered at NECC.

I called in and spoke with a very nice woman who gave me details about membership (52.00 per month and free child watch). The child watch was the biggest draw for me because I need to be able to bring my children. I drove down and filled out an application, waited about 15 minutes before someone could help me. Then they told me that they are no longer including child watch in their membership and children must be members before they can be watched. So that bumps it up to 65.00 a month. I wish that had been communicated more clearly either on the phone or on their website so that I wouldn't have wasted my time and could have come in more informed. All in all I think that it's cheaper than 24 hour fitness so I will probably join. I'm just not happy about the lack of knowledge of staff and communication. For a community center, they don't do a stellar job at keeping it affordable for the community. Also the parking situation isn't that great so consider that as well.

UPDATE:
Just spoke with someone at 24 hour fitness and the cost breakdown is 24.99 for your first child 19.99 for any subsequent children. This is for unlimited child care. And membership was quoted at 39.99 a month so the community center (for me with two kids) is only 20.00 less a month. It really boils down to how many kids you have and the classes available. If you don't have kids 24 hour fitness is cheaper than the community center for the monthly fee. I know 24 hour fitness has a lot of class options that aren't available at the community center. There is an initiation fee at 24 hour fitness which varies according to their promotions (so dumb!) The community center has no initiation fee but you must be a member for a minimum of 3 months before you are allowed to cancel. Hope my review helps any parents who are trying to compare gyms in the area.

This center really knows how to go above and beyond. The facility is clean and the staff is friendly! The indoor pool is perfect for Portland's rainy weather and is a great addition to the neighborhood. I love their large gymnasim where ceiling to floor mirrors line the wall and are great for any aerobic and dance class. The prices aren't asking too much for monthly memberships. I love the local aspect and that when you go you see a lot of the families from your block!
