Let me start this by saying I never leave reviews for anyone/anything; this experience has just been so frustrating. My roommate and I have been trying to find out how to sign up for a "group membership," since the website says group rates are available. We have been trying to get this done since at least mid-January (now over a month later). We tried to contact them via email, text, and have left many voicemails. When we signed up for a free 7-day trial at the beginning of January, it took about a week or two to receive the codes but Summer apologized and said she had recently undergone a major surgery and the person who was supposed to cover for her flaked out. I would assume that she should be mostly recovered by now and responding to our requests, but I'm not a medical professional so maybe that is an incorrect assumption. In any case, I would at least expect some sort of auto-response with an update. Now, the website doesn't even show an option to sign up for a membership, and it looks like some yelpers have reported this location as closed. I am not sure how accurate that is, but I would love to know what is going on so I can start exploring other options. Such a bummer considering this gym would have been so convenient - less than 10 blocks from where I live.
After paying for a trial, I did not receive the access code and could not get in touch with the gym reps to resolve the issue. Complete radio silence which they blame on tech troubles. It is simply unprofessional. First of all, this type of technology is not rocket science. Secondly, if the only way to get in touch with the gym reps is via technology, then they had to make sure it worked before starting the business. There are other Alberta gyms which are as good (judging from description of this gym by those who managed to get in) and are run in a client-friendly way too.
I liked going to this gym - it's small and rarely crowded and offers what I need. BUT the people who own this place are extremely difficult to communicate with. When I initially wanted to join up with my partner for a membership, it took almost 3 weeks of emailing to finally get in touch and sign up. When my partner wanted to cancel, it took her a month of emails, then me having to confront James (the lead trainer) about the issue, which he resolved in a matter of minutes while also making comments about how ridiculously unsecured their system is. I was going to sign up to continue my membership, but this place is a joke when it comes to how they operate their business.
Tried cancelling several times, without ever hearing back over email. Could not get the help we needed to do so and looked at website to try but could not find info (it's not well designed and at the very bottom of membership page). Finally after two months I asked my bank to stop charges and get money back. Finally after this owner reached out, citing health issues for lack of response: I understand health concerns happen but running a business has to mean communication and clarity in your business relationships. Would not recommend.
If you are looking for a small, cheap, neighborhood gym, this is it. Equipment is a bit old and some folks don't always clean up after themselves well. But a good price and it's usually not very busy.
Great gym. Well laid out, small but clean. Human power treadmills make for a nice eco solution, combined with a great staff and good classes. Definitely recommended, and available 24/7
A true neighborhood feel with actual people there to work out. Decent equipment, green mission statement, 24 hour access.
I joined this gym about 4 months ago at the recommendation of friends and enjoy the gym for the following reasons:
-clean facilities
-24 hour access gym
-never packed
-easy to find street parking
-sense of community
I also began personal training with James, a Master Trainer at EcoPower Fitness and have greatly improved my overall health with strength training that was tailored to my goals, my existing medical conditions, and schedule. I never thought that I would be someone who would enjoy personal training and I have been pleasantly surprised. I look forward to my sessions and feel empowered to use both weights and free weights on my own. Thanks James!
James and Megan, among other fantastic trainers, have created a comfortable, safe space for people to work out as a community. I feel as though they have invested in me and others personally, giving me the tools I need to become a better version of myself. I never knew I wanted a personal trainer until I came here!
