Great community to work out in. Highly recommend!
I dropped in at Magnus while visiting Portland to keep up with my exercise routine. I was not disappointed. Friendly welcoming atmosphere.
The owner :
Nick is a great owner ! 20 year Vet with a great leadership style. Answered my questions about business and running a gym.
The gym :
is clean , spacious, simple and positive environment.
It is not solely based on crossfit.
It approaches weight training , powerlifting and they Program open gym days!
They are focused on recovery and building long standing relationships with members.
Next time we are in Portland we will come back!
The members:
Met Taff, solid guy with great knowledge of the Portland area and CrossFit Magnus! Very approachable and friendly.

CrossFit Magnus has such a wonderful atmosphere to work out in. The coaches are very friendly and the members are all nice and encouraging. Class sizes are generally small no matter what time of day you go. I always look forward to my next workout there.
Welcoming to out-of-town dropins. Great workout, thank you!
As a 2-year member I've been daily impressed with the welcoming community and well-trained coaches. I started here in the Foundations class with a good level of aerobic fitness, but no weight lifting experience, and have made huge gains thanks to the programming and personal attention. I've also loved the vibe. It's really an Olympic weight lifting studio with a Crossfit box attached, and I've come to expect a focus on skill and technique instead of competitiveness.
This is a great place to learn the fundamentals of powerlifting, olympic lifting, and Crossfit and/or to get into competitive lifting and Crossfit if you're interested.
The staff is very friendly, experienced, and invested in the members and drop-ins, they are always willing to jump in and give hands on coaching during workouts. The members and coaches have done a great job creating an open community.
Pricing is very fair for both drop-in and membership. Also, they have a shower, which is a huge bonus for those who want to workout before heading into work.

My wife and I dropped into a few classes while we were in town and loved the space, had excellent coaching, and everyone was so nice. Definitely a great Crossfit gym!

Came here for some drop in classes when we were visiting portland so we wouldn't get fat on vacation. The coaches and the people that work out here are very friendly and helpful. They have a good variety of equipment and we enjoyed their wods. We would definitely come here again if we were in the area.

Amazing staff. So glad I came here.
Absolutely the best place to get yourself jacked
I have been a member of CrossFit Magnus for 2 years and I couldn't be more pleased. All the trainers are really nice, funny and smart. They meet you where you are at instead of expecting you to be a Crossfit star when you walk in.
I have been attending CrossFit Magnus twice a week for a year an and a half. My normal lifestyle had already been a mix of bicycle commuting, working on my feet and computer gaming. Within the first month, while still in the foundations class, I began noticing muscle definition that I had never seen, or imagined, on myself before. That was fun and a confidence booster, although my goals do not specifically include becoming lean and muscled.
The classes work well for people with very diverse ability ranges and targets. It doesn't feel awkward to work alongside people who are lifting just an empty bar, or twice as much as I am. Coaches provide encouragement to set personal goals and push for improvement but I never feel pressured to meet someone else's goal, some ideal, or to be the "best".
The gender balance seems pretty close to 50/50. Quint, Tim, Nick and the newer instructors Kayla and Christine are all competent and fun to work with.
I tried CrossFit Magnus to spend time with an old friend, about 6 months later my partner joined as well. The social aspect of these group classes has provided me with the motivation to attend regularly and reap the physical and mental benefits of athleticism.
Great coaches and an amazing community

Coach Quint Fischer is amazing... I am a remote client out in DC and fly out about 3 times a year to train in person. Solid programming, attentive coaching, a strong focus on skill and technique (ie safety and injury prevention) as well as how to incorporate whole life wellness. And, Quint is friggin hilarious. Assistant coach Tim is pretty awesome too! The CrossFit Magnus community is welcoming and supportive. The box is classic CrossFit. More than enough equipment to get a good workout, but free of gratuitous frills. I hear showers are coming in spring/summer 2014. If you want to get fit in Portland and think CrossFit might be fun to try, go to CrossFit Magnus!
