This is the Rego Park gym of the New York Sports Club . Its right off of Queens Boulevard and convenient to the 67th Street Subway Station. Street parkign can be hard to find- there are parking lots in the area. Its generally not too crowded and you can usually get the machine you want without waiting.. There are various classes offered though have been told (I don't take classes) that their is less than in many of the other branches.

The mens changing room is not exactly luxurious but it is clean and adequate, as is the steam room.

Location and not being too crowded are my primary criteria for a gym; these are big pluses for this gym and is the main reason I go to it.

Great staff, but chairs on balcony are stained and the place needs a paint job. Is very clean and have diverse equipment

My beloved gym. Coolest crowd ever.

Been coming here for many years! Great very popular gym. It's very popular 7 days a week especially on the weekends. The machines need to be cleaned for dust and the air conditioning is bad in the summer. And no puts away the weights!!! But those are all minor, if you pace yourself this place is great to workout.

I'm never one to write a negative review, but people must be aware of how terribly this gym is run. Within a year, several machines broke (or barely worked) and half the treadmills stopped working. I was once running on a working treadmill and it stopped abruptly. I'm lucky I didn't go flying forward.

I wanted to add my mom onto my membership, but the man working there couldn't care less about what I needed and signed her up for a separate membership without notifying me. For her membership, I was paying more than I needed to because it wasn't added-on. I only found out it was a separate membership when I added a new card to my account, but my old card was still being charged for her membership. When I called to request that her membership be joined with mine, I was told "you're only paying $5 more per month, so no one will be willing to fix this for you." What kind of response is that? That's $60 extra per year, all because the staff there doesn't care.

The absolute worst experience has been the cancellation process, which NO ONE explains when you sign up. All you're told about is a $10 cancellation fee, but they never mention that you pay the cancellation fee AND membership for the next 2 months (60 days) of which you can only utilize the gym for 45 days. I paid the fee and agreed to these terms before I moved to Spain (meaning I'm not even be able to use the gym). I cancelled and left mid-August. It's October and I'm still receiving calls asking me to pay the cancellation fee and I'm continuously being charged for my membership.

Furthermore, I was overcharged $15 in May and the lady over the phone said she left a note saying that money would be credited to my account in the next month. Never happened. When I called the next month, I was told they saw the note, but don't know what happened. The gym owes me money, yet it continues to charge me.

Save your money and energy and DON'T GO TO THIS GYM. Half the machines don't work and most of the staff couldn't care less. Some of them are very nice, but their kindness is overshadowed by the uselessness of their counterparts. I don't take pride in writing negative reviews, but this information must be shared.

Not a huge space, but they make it work. The FH NYSC has a lot more, but this place is more personal.

Only come if you have no other choice or if money is a constraint. Otherwise the gym is comparable to a shelter dirty, run down, and crowded most of the time. Staff is fairly nice though +1 star.

Decent gym. Well equipped for strength training. Can get extremely busy sometimes, especially the upper level free weights area near the benches. Staff are friendly although a lot of members expect the staff to re-rack weights for them which is a shame.

This gym is extremely busy, all machines are always taken, no matter what time you're there - 6am, 11am, 3pm, 7pm, etc... Gym management, you should add more machines and wiser arrange them, a lot of space is wasted. Completely unsatisfied as I paid for it but couldn't really work out.. I'd even pay 2-3 times more for membership with longer commute to a gym as long as I can at least use 1 machine I want. My previous gym had less space and more equipment, so it's doable.

NYSC gyms are very tight - you are literally on top of each other here (as well as the one in Whitestone and the one in Forest Hills). I do not understand why they feel that is a good idea to pack all that equipment in there like that. You literally were elbow to elbow with the person next to you.

I decided to cancel my membership on May 10 and they charged me in June and July. I called and was told that my cancellation was never submitted - despite the fact that I received an email. The young lady at the front desk suggested I call back and speak to the manager.

I called later and asked to speak to the manager and was placed on hold for 10 minutes.

I called again this morning and was told that I should call again to speak to a manager after 12.30pm. This is totally unacceptable. It was bad enough that when you went there it smelled like booty and yak and onions (24 hour fitness in Valley Stream did not smell like that). It was also concerning because very few people would wipe down the equipment after they used it. I even saw where a girl was wearing very short shorts and she pretty much put her sweaty bum on the equipment and did not wipe it down (again, 24 hour fitness in Valley Stream was much better).

I will NEVER use NYSC again in any capacity. I am not a gym person to begin with - I like to work out outdoors, but I was working with a personal trainer who has since moved on to another place.

Despite this, I will say their staff was excellent. They were nice and pleasant when you arrived to work out and tried to help as best they could.

Always had issues with cancellation and "surprise" charges on credit card. This gym is the closest, my wife and I had joined and left a few times. So far had issues with surprise charges on my credit cards after cancellation of membership and personal training for 3 times, first 2 times are resolved after a few times of phone calls, visits, and emails. We were told "you are all set and there will be no charges after this month" when submitted cancellation request , no confirmation email or whatsoever, when you call after seeing charges on credit card, they told you that it's 45 days policy (although I remember it is 30 days) and there is another "Cancellation fee" coming.

NYSC was a good brand a few years back, I don't understand why it would frustrate customer by those surprise charges. I don't feel like fighting for $30 or so but I will not come back and I will tell everyone to avoid this brand. I can't stop you from bring down your brand reputation to some other cheaper gyms or cable/phone companies.

On the good side, the staff at this gym are very nice and helpful. It's the corporate and brand that I'm losing faith with.

The staff behind the counter is excellent but terrible management. Only one water fountain in the place and it's broken. The general manager - a petite white female, her name escapes me - is flirting with one of the members as he's monopolizing a machine. I say excuse me, they ignore me and keep talking. I timed them to see how long they'd take before they'd leave and after 3 minutes I had enough and asked them about it. She threatened to revoke my membership. What kind of general manager fraternizes with her guests while taking up equipment and then gets mad when approached about it? And they ganged up on me talking about "gym etiquette" - LOL. If they had any of that they would know that the gym and its equipment is for trying to get fit and not for trying to get laid. Extremely unprofessional. She should be embarrassed with herself. I'm amazed how she got the position when there are much better candidates in the place. Maybe because she's white. Racism much? Go to Retro Fitness by Woodhaven Blvd instead.

Love this gym. Sarabeth is the best , keep up the good work

I am a Rego Park Queens transplant originally from Long Beach Long Island. The staff is very courteous and professional. Sera Demartino is a manager who is attentive and does a good job running the club. Recently met fitness manager Ernest Hudson also very professional was accommodating and throw addressing my interest in training ... I was introduced to elite trainer Tony Montoya really knows his stuff committed and very knowledgeable Trainer , after having an assessment session I agreed signing up for weekly training sessions package. The facility is Nice, Locker room need some upkeep but generally the equipment is all under one roof which makes it easier from going weight training to cardio. Like this gym way better than Forest Hills NYSC. Hope this is helpful ...

This gym is in a great location, right outside the 67th Ave train stop - and thats the only good thing about it. The gym is messy, equipment is old and often broken and unclean (fans in cardio equipment are full of dust it's disgusting!!!), and that's not the worst part. The worst part is the crowd here and the management. First on the crowd - it's a bunch of high school kids who don't know what they are doing and hog the equipment or using them in a way that will damage them. There's a decent amount of "silver sneakers" (senior citizens) here too and they fall in the same bucket as the kids - neither group has any proper gym etiquette and are making this gym worse and worse. If you're not there to workout properly, GTFO my gym.

Second, the management.... where do I even begin... it is an unorganized mess and everything they say is a lie. I've referred 4 people to the gym with a promised referral credit of $25/referral and I still have not see this on my account (it's been 2 months). They often have low rate promotions to attract new members but they will raise the rate (after a couple of months) without telling you. They also claim to be contract-free yet there is a cancellation fee and an annual fee.

These promotions coupled with the crowd this gym attracts is making this gym the worse over the years (i've been working out here since 2103). If you are a member make sure you check your bills ever month and dispute any amount you don't agree with and don't let these liars scam you.

You can see from the other comments that management obviously does not care because they reply with generic messages to all the other negative reviews - it's probably generated from a bot or just copied & pasted.

tl;dr - if you're thinking of joining, DON'T. Find a gym near your office or something, anything is better than this. If you're already a member, check your bills monthly and dispute any charges you don't agree with from NYSC, and show proper gym etiquette!

April 19, 2018 09:17

the gym is very clean and has lots space, i signed up with zelena , she was very profesional

April 19, 2018 09:15

Zelena helped me with any questions, had excellent customer service and made sure I had no problems with my experience in the facility

April 6, 2018 13:07

The best way to exercise is to dance. My trainer, Irena, provides both dance lessons and an exercise program. The exercises are to build up my strength so I can be a better dancer, and dancing is just fun. I highly encourage exercising through dancing with Irena.

Two of the male training staff (not going to mention names-both are Latino) and one male front desk clerk (taller white guy) here like to antagonize and prod handicapped gym members at this location. From inside

Two of the male training staff (not going to mention names-both are Latino) and one male front desk clerk (taller white guy) here like to antagonize and prod handicapped gym members at this location. From inside jokes, to stalking, to overt racism against people of color.

It's completely unacceptable and disgusting. It's seems as though Town Sports Clubs provides no type of customer service training to their employees and has no protections in place to protect their customers from harassment from said employees.

An extremely toxic environment that seems to be ignored by management. Very uncomfortable environment.

Do not sign up for a membership at this club and absolutely do not use any of their in house trainers.

March 10, 2018 14:49

The worst gym in NY. The staff are the worst and rude people that talk to their customers in a very unprofessional way (talking in a rude and disrespectful way rather than to handle a problem professionally) The gym is very dirty and unorganized. All the dumbbells and weights are either missing or all over the place. I do not recommend this gym.

January 16, 2018 15:14

I've been here twice and both times I was not happy with the layout of the place. It's also a mess. It's probably more a reflection on the residents of the neighborhood than anything else. The demographic of the area has changed in the last few years and not for the better.

December 23, 2017 08:13

It's the gym I go to. The place is good for working out and the staff is generally helpful.

November 14, 2017 11:53

Against my will I signed up because of a friends recommendation and I will say this Always Trust Your Instincts ( If you are a Women seeking a membership go across the street to Lucille Roberts been with them for 6 years and I never had an issue). Soon after signing up with the forest hills location I moved ( closer to Rego Park) and I requested to change my home location to their Rego Park Location because I never end up going to the gym because of the distance. For the past week they keep pushing me around, will never return my phone call , will keep me on hold for a long time ( longest I have hold was 15 mins) When I actually go there in person " The Manager" is never there. Its frustrating and annoying Moreover and as a fairly new customer ( 2 months) I was charged a Late Fee in error and they have given me a run around for the past 2 weeks. Moreover when I finally spoke to someone and they want to charge me more monthly for doing so. Its not like I am changing gyms entirely all I want to do it change the location. It doesn't seem like they know what they are doing. I have gotten 4 different names to contact and the 4 keep telling me I need to speak to each other. Hopefully they will wake up and realize how terrible their customer service is.

November 7, 2017 10:35

Pros: Reasonably priced, good sized space, lots of barbells.
Cons: Messiest gym I've ever been to. I've only ever once seen an employee on the gym floor cleaning up. They haven't replaced their broken cable ropes which have been needed for months.

October 18, 2017 11:31

Laziest staff EVER. Always running low on towels. The gym floor is always a mess! The weights are never re-racked, old towels are hanging off of every surface, garbage hiding in weird places - I found a rotten apple core under the leg of the Hammerstrength chest-press machine on October 13th 2017, lets see how long it stays there. The fountain is always caked with protein powder. I see the managers standing around chatting instead of managing their staff. Gum is stuck on cardio equipment, they're dusty and rust is caked everywhere. The bathroom soap dispensers are empty or missing. Trainers always look disheveled, rarely wear their uniforms, don't know who works there or who to ask for help. New members aren't given tours - I wasn't when I joined. Unless the front desk recognizes you they don't bother to acknowledge you.

I point this all out because I used to work in a gym as a trainer, as an AFM and at reception. My OM would have replaced everyone by now. Walk-throughs were done every day to make sure the gym was neat and tidy. Trainers and cleaning staff were responsible for racking weights or at least encouraging members to re-rack their own weights, needless to say weights were where they belonged at all times. Trainers and staff were always in uniform with name tags visible while training.

Not sure why such basic levels of operation are so difficult for this gym (most NYSCs). Regardless of price point, service and presentation should NEVER be compromised. How are gyms like Blink and Planet fitness out-performing your staff and facility? I can't compare NYSC to Crunch or Equinox because they're way out of league.

October 18, 2017 11:31

Out of all the NYSCs that I go to, this is the one that makes me cringe. I only come here because it's around the block from me. Can I start with the vicious and nasty cleaning lady in the locker room. She's there every evening and will run the vacuume right under your feet, even when you are trying to change or get your belongings at the lockers, ugghh. This is the only gym that has continually run out of towels... What? A gym without towels!! Ugghhh The whole gym is dirty and a lot of the equipment is super old. Very poor layout for the space in this gym. The cardio machines are way too close together. -0 stars

October 18, 2017 11:31

Its a rip off full of hidden charges don't join this gym without going through agreement specially "Alicia"the manager rego park location nasty arogant lady just want to make money in whatever way she can.not worth to be part of this club basically its not to make you its to break you.

October 18, 2017 11:31

You must be ok to be greeted back with a burp and no smile. Yes I walked in and greeted the reception with a hearty "good morning" and got no response except a BURP. To me it didn't look like he even tried to hide it, but it's possible he thought the burp happened only inside.
I'm still very happy because my membership is very cheap and easy on my pocket. Guess we live in a world where you just have to be ok without basic manners.

October 18, 2017 11:31

Gym is okay. The staff (front desk) are definitely not friendly - no smile, hello or a welcoming presence. They seem preoccupied. The treadmill/cardio equipment are constantly out of commission, and it can be a hassle especially when you're on a time frame. They need to enforce cleaning up after yourself -- you would think that some of the members have no home training when it comes to picking up after yourself and many of them monopolize all the benches. Recently, which I find annoying, is that they have reps who are selling diet plans that continuously approach you when you enter/exit the gym -- stop soliciting. I just want to do my workout, and get out of there as soon as possible.
