This is a very unique and intimate yoga studio. I absolutely love the size and vibe of this place. The tapestries are a great touch, and the whole aesthetic is quite calming. The location is super convenient, being as there is an entrance right from the Astoria-Ditmars train station. At first I thought that the close proximity to the train could be distracting, but it's so tranquil in the studio that I barely even notice the noises from the nearby trains.
I'm a big fan of the Tuesday/Thursday beginner's classes. These supply a good workout in a traditional vinyasa format. I have been practicing yoga for a number of years now, but I still find it beneficial to go back to the basics from time to time. Gala is great at breaking down the postures, and she is very attentive to new students. These classes are a must for first timers looking to learn more about yoga!
On other nights of the week, you'll have the opportunity to experience Lalita's (the owner) sequence which she has created herself. It's a very different sequence than that what I typically practice, so it has been cool to try something new. The one downside to some of these classes is that they are going through teacher training so several instructors will teach the class at once. I found this frustrating at first, but over time I've become more familiar with the postures and it hasn't seemed as cumbersome. Also, all of the teachers in training are very sweet and helpful. They are great at remembering names, and one of the teachers, Jennifer, even remembered that I had recently been on a trip and asked me how it was. It feels good to be appreciated!
Overall, practicing here has been a different experience, but I'm glad that I decided to try something new.
