I'm a member and the 23rd and 8th Ave location is in dire need of a renovation. Locker room smells like stinky feet. Ceiling fell in over the machines about a month ago. Woodway tread mills are not taken care of and none of the treadmills are actually maintained or balanced, which causes them to rattle and bounce around as you run. The lockers are old and require locks but some of them don't lock because the swivel lever is misaligned. Tons more problems, but the staff is amazing. The company just needs to invest a bit of money into this prime location to make it less of an embarrassing place to workout. Go to the one just south at 16th and 8th instead. Blink two blocks north is new and very nice as well.

Great place to work out. Had everything you need

Elite? Hahahahahahah

The gyms that cost $124.00 A YEAR from the NYC Parks department are nicer than this place. This nysc is cramped, smells and absolutely not worth the elite price.

They overcharge your credit card incorrectly.

They increased my monthly rate without any notification.

Also, it happened with me twice that I freeze my account and get overcharged. When I ask them to refund the money they will not do that and just ask me to come later when their particular employee is around. After one month of trying to get the money back they declined refund and offered an adjustment in the next bill.

I got frustrated and wanted to cancel the membership. They ask me to fill a form and "would look into it and call back". Never got the call back. In the meanwhile they again increase my monthly rate and starts charging even higher.

I was on a corporate discounted plan Otherwise I would never waste money on this.

Employee attitude is bad and always seeking more members (asking to bring friends) with poor services. CANCELLATION is their opportunity to rip you off.

If you're over 5'10 don't go here, the showers are installed at 6ft and will not accommodate your height. There's also little flexibility in the shower head, so at most you'll have the water sprinkle on your chest. You'll have to crouch down to wash your head. Some of the poorly installed water control change temperature based on gravity, so if your control is up, it will slide down. That's elite for ya

The place and equipment deserves 5 stars but there are some things that made me rate it 4, lets start with the fact that trainers at this location stare at me because I am in shape and I frequent the facility with a friend once in a while and they assume I am a trainer and I am not. They stare at me like I am a pest and I am robbing them money. Front desk staff does not say hello and locker room looks like is under construction. For an elite facility this place needs better looking trainers and staff members who greet. The only person who said hello was probably the manager a bald dark skin male with formal wear.

This NYSC is going to take off because of Antoine the personal trainer. From his former location in Brooklyn, he helped 4 zip codes get into shape. The gym is in a great location with the 4,5,6,S, Metro North and the 7 train. It is located in the MetLife building. The best access is from 44th Street and Vanderbilt. You should stop by this gym and ask for Antoine

Good classes, hope they finish renovating soon

THIS IS AN ELITE LOCATION. EXTRA FEES APPLY. Front Desk personal has a very bad attitude and superiority complex.

They have a great location, but i wish they had more group classes so that people would not have better chances of getting into one.

They just upgraded this location to Elite and it's got all new equipment, new areas, upgraded locker room. That combined with location, makes it perfect

This is my home gym. The staff is friendly and always willing to help out with any issues, which is truly great customer service. I love walking in and being greeted by name! Also, my all-time favorite NYSC class is held at this gym (not going to say which one!) that brings me back week after week. This location was recently updated to an Elite location, so if this is not your home gym, you can no longer come here with just a passport membership.

The Pros:
-great customer service
-large variety of classes
-handicap accessible (ramps, showers, etc)
-brand new equipment!!! (edited from previous review complaining about the outdated equipment)

The cons:
-overcrowding of equipment (machines feel too close together in front of the studio)
-TOWELS: always threadbare and always leaves lint all over me and my clothes. I typically go during lunchtime and I end up picking white lint out of my hair the rest of the afternoon.

While this is my home gym location, I actually only go once a week (for my favorite class) because I prefer to work out on the machines at a different NYSC location.

A new low for NYSC: actual human fecal matter (yes, POOP) in the lockers (see photo). I raised the issue with the desk manager. His response: "Again??" Apparently, this is the 6th time in a month that a deranged client has smeared his POO on something in the locker room. Can NYSC control insane patrons? Maybe not, but I've raised this three times and they have done absolutely nothing. Mind you, NYSC is not denying that they have a massive problem. They concede that human poop caked on client's locks and inside towels, is an issue. They just don't think they can do anything to stop it. I can't even get the general manager to call me back. Perhaps when there is human POOP smeared on things in the locker room the manager should return calls to the clients.

It's a good gym but it could be better with the faculty and the sauna mostly of the time it doesn't work

October 18, 2017 11:00

Depends on the club. Some are great and have a wonderful variety of classes, taught by athletic, fun instructors. Some locations-not so much and the classes are not motivating and just sad. Typically clean facilities with good day care options.

October 18, 2017 11:00

It's an okay club. You get what you pay for. The facilities are clean enough and the gym has all the basic equipment and machines you would need. The gym does overcrowd, however, so I would recommend going during off-hours.

One of the cleaner NYSC locations. Locker room is on the crowded side, but it's clean with good towels. Floor can also very crowded. Equipment is in decent condition. Good sauna.

October 18, 2017 11:00

The club is nice but the trainers can take over and dominate equipment with their clients. You get the feeling that trainers with clients come first. Of course this is at its worse when the club is most crowded.
