I was a member of NYSC for over two years, until they raised my membership rate twice within 12 months, increasing my monthly dues over 40%. This was all after I was told that my rate would be locked in over the same period of time.

I have emailed Anthony Messina several times about and never received even an acknowledgement of receipt. The gym itself is in poor shape, but the customer service experience has been much worse.

Elite location. Change the name to include Elite since it's something else entirely... (Passport members can't go either).

One of my favorite locations. Spacious, placement of machines and weights makes sense for my workouts. My favorite is that in addition to racks they have bins with lower weight dumbbells which always contain the weights I need. Staff is very courteous.

not good enough for elite club but I keep visiting it because of convenient location

This club is unbelievable! I had a membership with them for about 2 years. I cancelled my membership in April 2019, 6 months later (OCTOBER 4TH, 2019) I am charged a membership fee!!! How is that even possible when I cancelled my membership in April? I call the club to speak with the manager and waited on hold for 10 mins, then the staff came on and said "Oh I can't get any managers right now, they can email you." What?! I told her no I need to speak to one now because they charged my card $70 when I am no longer a member. After waiting on hold for another 20 mins, the manager comes on the phone and said "they will look into it and will contact me back. They are also shocked as to what happened." This is so unprofessional and ridiculous!

They have all sorts of sports clubs: polo, cricket, playing cards. Not golf clubs though because that's not a real sport.

this is one of the best of all New York sports clubs. So clean you could eat off the floor. The weight staff is so attractive and so professional.

I love the gym! God bless Jennifer Levin!

This stupid club doesnt say elite on Google maps walked all the way out of my way only to find my passport membership isn't good here and Its 20 dollars to use the club. They could've at least allowed me to use it since I came all the way there and completely wasted my time having to walk 20 mins out of my way to the nearest club when I barely had time to work out between jobs anyhow.

Roaches in the locker room and on the gym floor, regularly runs out of body wash and towels, and now, in the middle of summer, no a.c. for almost a week. Avoid at literally all costs. I'm a frugal guy, but I'm switching to Equinox. These guys are crooks. Oh, and by the way, about a year ago, they made this gym SMALLER, by putting in two storefronts (still vacant, never rented) and then proceeded to UPCHARGE by changing this to an "Elite" location. The only thing elite is the price.

I give two stars because, for an "elite" branch of a chain club, this is more like a public gym. Relatively old machines organized by layout that doesn't make any sense, at least not for a place that's purportedly "elite". Plus, dirty towels piling up in a dirty locker during most weekend makes it a total disaster. Shame on you, Nysc, for charging more to use the club.

SCAM! Do not try their "10 day free trial", they will charge you the full month even after they tell you that you need to activate your account after the 10days have expired for you to continue using the gym. Not only was I charged the full month (I never agreed on signing up for the full month), but when I attempted to get a refund based on the information provided by the sales manager, they dragged the whole thing for about 6 months and at the end nothing was resolved. Very unprofessional the way Jeff Janos and Michael Hopkins handled the situation, telling me that I would get a refund, having me call endless times and at the end NOTHING. I'm also a sales manager and this is NOT how you attract people to your business. Fix it and do not let this happen to anyone else. If there is any hope on my case, I would like someone to reach out to me. I would like to know who the owner of this gym is...........

The gym was fine but when I moved they made me come in to cancel my membership. They said my membership was cancelled but continued to charge me for months. Not worth the cheap rates.

I'm there for physical therapy due to ankle surgery. The nicest people. They always have a smile on, always willing to assist. The place is clean and properly maintained and well vetilated.

So, NYSC has this new practice of turning all of their mediocre to good gyms into "Elite" gyms. Some include this one, the 23rd St. gym which is a disaster with old equipment and weights strewn all over the place or the one at Grand Central that is small enough to be laughable that it could be considered "Elite".

The problem with this is that they sold everyone these Global passes where the contract was that we got access to ALL gyms. Then they upgraded some, in name only, and began charging customers and extra TWENTY dollars a VISIT without ever explicitely telling anyone. I went to Astor Place numerous times and not one time did the front desk EVER mention this. Never. Total scam or total incompetence, you choose.

I told this to their Astor Place location and to this one and they said "Don't worry you were never charged, so just know now but you won't pay for the past visits".

But, I filed a complaint at the Better Business Bureau because it is so shady and again the customer service said that I was never charged for the times I visited those locations so I should ignore it. AND THEN THEY WENT AHEAD AND CHARGED ME FOR ALL PREVIOUS VISITS TO THEIR "ELITE" gyms.

It is a scam. Go to Blink. Crunch. 24 Hour Fitness but cancel your membership here ASAP unless you want hundreds of dollars of upcharges.

One of the rare ones with conditioner in woman's bathroom!!! Woo. I haven't been during peak hours. I felt the layout was odd, but we are working with city space here, so understandable.

I had a very negative experience where I was charged $20 per visit as the location had become an "elite location" without every being notified. I wrote a review here and was contacted by the GM, Michael. He was extremely understanding and accommodating. Still a customer because of this experience.

I've been lifting weights for about five years. But I haven't been seeing the results I wanted. In the last year or so I have been training with Coach DiJune twice weekly. I am now in the best shape of my life. Highly recommend signing up with him if you are tired of going to the gym and not seeing results!

October 18, 2017 10:57

So so. Been member for ages but they can do better. Facilities are not always clean, towels missing, classes are good but not in all locations.

October 18, 2017 10:57

The setup is cluttered and makes poor use of space. The downstairs (heavy iron) area is way too small for the number of people who use it.

Edited 6/28/2017 due to billing issues.
Their billing failed for 4 months. They never notified me. Each time it failed, they charge me $15 (total $45). I've since cancelled my membership and recommend other people do as well. If you read up about NYSC/TSI online you hear the same things over and over again - the facilities are sometimes good, sometime bad, but the billing is ALWAYS horrible.

Terrible gym. AC hasn't been working for 2 weeks! No email. No apology. No compensation. 82C inside.

Aside from that, the showers are generally disgusting and not cleaned often enough. Go find a Crumch, Blink or Equinox!

I have to admit its gotten better over the years but every so often it disappoints. I tend to try and go at non-peak times and this gym has sent out many surveys and "comment cards"to ask how they are doing. This is the weird part, when I do comment or send my honest feedback I'll either get someone who says "So sorry, we will look into this"... thats normal. Or I will have someone who argues with me reach out which is a sure way to keep me as a customer! Great strategy!
