Pros: Much less busy if you know when to go, generally between 10 and noon. Staff is pretty friendly, the place typically kept up well.

Cons: Not directed at the gym/staff but holy cow the members are comprised of awful people. Pick up after yourself (towels, wipes, water bottles etc.), put things back where you found them and for the love of all things sacred please quit taking your clothes off and taking selfies IN THE MIDDLE OF THE GYM. Another thing, have a little self awareness and quit taking phone calls that last for longer than it takes to say "At the gym, call you back". Rant over.

Rude staff! Highly overpriced gym for a rundown and filthy environment.

Only reason to come here is convenience, which is important. Elite membership is a rip off.

The first thing you'll notice entering the cramped entrance of this gym is a sign forbidding general entry with phrases like, "this is not a public restroom," and while that may seem odd you'll quickly learn there is a police-state-like culture here. There are a dozen signs in the men's locker room with threats of cutting locks at night. The general area is no better with signs in front of each treadmill on what to do with the emergency cords. If you love being told what to do and what not to do, you'll have a great time here.

I am being charged even after I have cancelled my membership. For 3 days now I have requested to speak with the manager but I am yet to get a call/email back. This has been the worst experience so far. The rep who answers the call is incredibly rude and unprofessional (luveal) I just need a call back!

This place is pretty good and I the staff is very friendly. I do feel that this gym has A LOT of members and the after work crowd is getting bigger and bigger.

My favorite part about this gym is Saturday morning 9:45AM Spin with Annette - she is a great spin instructor and I leave completely worn-out. I've been going for months and she is amazing!

*Pros*
- Always a towel available
- Staff is friendly
- Overall it's pretty organized and the members are polite

*Cons*
- Really awkward layout which then causes the machines to be cramped in
- A lot of members

This was a very convenient location for me -- close to work and close to many transit options. I also enjoyed using the cardio area. I was quite dissatisfied with the locker room, however, which I found to be dirty and in poor repair. I decided to cancel within the 10-day risk-free trial period. An employee at the front desk quickly canceled my membership, but the club retained no record of my cancellation and continued to charge me. If what you're going for is convenience, this club has it. If you want a clean facility with halfway decent customer service, look elsewhere!

I don't know what is happening with this gym. It is going downhill. I pay $80 a month to hold a NYSC membership and every month that goes by I question my decision to stay a member. It is just filthy. I understand that people's expectations can be really high but this gym is not even at the regular standard. Take a look at the photos I took one morning at the gym. I also took a video of it. I still cant believe it.

This New York Sports Club has
An inside tennis court half the size of Dallas. Usable 365 days a year. It has two racquet courts. Two whole floors of men's changing rooms with lots of privacy. An excellent waitstaff. Plenty of bikes. And it's never never ever crowded. I recommend it very highly.

This gym isn't the worst but neither it is great.
Locker room again is what fails completely, NYSC needs to learn that if they make locker rooms with a modern steel and iron these locker rooms will not smell and less bacteria will accumulate. Revamping the tiles and floors and eliminating the carpet will bring it up to date and remove that 1990's vibe. I don't care about AC, people who barely workout and just do cardio are always the first to complain about AC, gyms aren't meant for you to be comfortable, the whole point of working out is testing your body, basically bringing it to uncomfortable levels. If there were no Air ventilation that will be a completely different story! For some reason I like the weight area in this gym , it has a very retro look but everything that you need is there. The turf is a waste of space. They do need better pull up racks and a dip section. The staff in the offices are always staring at you while you come up and down the stairs which is very uncomfortable but besides that this gym is great if you are on the go.

Year after year, the downward spiral continues. Absolutely substandard--even ramshackle-- locker rooms with many broken lockers, littered rugs, and an unusable shower. When equipment is faulty or broken, they remain so in perpetuity. It's near to where I live, and in the summer I go there sometimes because I can wear gym shorts and avoid the locker rooms. I never, ever shower there. It's and exercise in masochism to do so. Nevertheless, that said: The employees are unfailingly friendly, helpful, and intelligent!

It is now 10 months--apparently--since I wrote this review. I am going there now to see if the locker room and showers have improved. I've continued to go with adapted street-clothes on but have left directly afterward. But I will take a look at the locker area and if the showers seem to have improved, I will try to edit my initial review. It is good PR to respond in writing to negative reviews, but much, much better to respond in corrective action!

As a gym, they check the necessary boxes as you'd expect for the region. Other reviewer are more-or-less on point. From a customer service standpoint though, you'd better hope you never have to interact with them. Their organization is opaque from the outside, and offers no clear means of solving customer service issues in a timely manner. Official phone numbers inexplicably "are not available to take your call at this time". Online form submissions are seemingly lost in the void. The only way to seek payment help is through the club manager, who's only there for a narrow slice of the day.

As a business, this gives the impression they're poorly managed, and really take advantage of customer service friction to keep you stuck like a fly on glue paper.

Good vibe and plenty of equipment. If you're looking for a no frills gym to workout, minus the glitter, this spot is ideal.

Nice gym just joined this location. Has steamroom, sauna. Classes. Trainers.no parking. Close to subway

December 16, 2017 01:44

Good place to workout, however needs more attention to aging equipments in the locker room

If you love locker rooms that smell of mildew and showers that are either broken or have no water pressure - this place is for you! If your idea of the best workout is one that includes a constant fear the machine you're using will break mid-set - you've just got to try this place out! Yearn for a place where all the weights and supplies are scattered without anyone to keep anything organized? Run to this gym! If you feel most at home surrounded by dirt, dust, and grime - you have found your slice of heaven! And if you just cannot find a gym that screams "we literally could not care less about our clients" - congratulations!

Seriously though - this place just continues to deteriorate. Not sure why NYSC seems so apathetic about this place, but it's a pretty awful location and I'd highly recommend people look elsewhere.

I needed a gym that is accessible for me so I joined this one at 26 Court Street. I signed up for the one to one tour of the gym and near the end of our session, I realized that I was late for work. Instead of having me back to finish up my assessment, the personal trainer rushed me out and said that if I needed more information, I would have to pay for it. His only goal was to get me to sign up for a personal trainer. If he was nicer and more accommodating, I would have definitely put aside monies to do so but not now. I was very upset and I waited to calm down and I called the gym when I was at work. He got on the phone and was really rude to me and said he did what he had to do and it was too bad that I had to leave for work and that it was my problem, not his. I just signed up YESTERDAY! I can only imagine what problems that I will have at this gym. I wish I had waited and got a tour or something before I joined.

Convenient location. Multi level gym. Often crowded and busy. Steps away from train.

Good enough to get a great workout in but it can definitely use some upgrades

I've been a NYSC member for more than 15 years with a passport membership and hence have been to my fair share of NYSC locations and this one by far is the worst! It's a total dump. I only go to it because its near my job and convenient for lunchtime workouts. Otherwise I would never set foot in it. It's not properly maintained. The men's locker room is always smelly and dirty; many locker doors are broken and the lockers are always dirty; half the shower heads don't work; cardio equipment is frequently broken; the weight equipment is old outdate and has missing weights; and the staff simply could care less. If a Planet Fitness opened up close by I'd ditch NYSC in a hearbeat!
