If you do powerlifting, Olympic lifting, or CrossFit, you'll find this gym to be adequate.
Pros:
- tons of equipment, including Olympic lifting platform with bumper plates, multi-rack + squat racks, trap bar, lots of bars for chin ups
- locker room with decent showers & soap, monthly rental lockers + daily lockers
- close to A/C and G/F subway trains makes it pretty accessible
- decent rates; $45/month membership, $10/month locker rental, $75(?) yearly fee. Could be a lot worse but not bad at all IMO for the decent facilities
- lots of free towels
Cons:
- something is always broken & maintenance seems slow; showers have been draining slowly for ages, sink was broken for ages now it's fixed and the dryer is broken, many barbells are bent, sauna broken
- people constantly doing dumb things like: groups of people hogging the bench presses to sit and chat, groups of people hogging the bench press to do bicep curls, groups of people hogging the dumbbell benches to do ab & leg work, hogging benches to sit and read magazines. Never saw this at Ritchie's.
- fixing billing issues with the parent company over the phone is an absolute nightmare, they'll leave you on hold for 20min+ then transfer you a dozen times & give you a run around.
Overall it's definitely worth the price but not without some minor issues. Make sure you bring shower-shoes if you plan to shower, and expect headaches trying to cancel your membership with anyone besides the location's general manager in person.
