Very good! Very fancy
Best branch of NYSC in the city. I travel from midtown just to use the Netflix powered treadmills. The weight room is huge and spacious. Whatever anyone complained about before is fixed.
This location was closed by the parent company of nysc, tsi, to rebrand as tmpl gym. Don't join their newly rebranded gym. I repeat! Don't join! Look at their tmpl hells kitchen location reviews on Google and yelp! I am a current member there and can't wait to leave.
LIES LIES AND MORE LIES. The Sheridan Square location was supposed to open last Feb/March/April/May/June/July/August/Sept. Now it is supposed to open the end of October HOWEVER, it is no longer a NYSC so guess what, your membership is invalid. I was told all along, my special NYSC rate would be honored when Sheridan Square opened; however, the people who sit in the makeshift office say "we are not at all affiliated with NYSC" so everything I was offered and promised and noted on my account by NYSC is invalid. I was also told that "all NYSC members would receive a "very great rate" to join this new "Temple" facility. Yet they are offering a promotional rate of $120 until the end of August (for ANYONE); so where is the promotional rate for the NYSC members????? Furthermore, they expect you to give them a $60 initiation fee to lock in your $120 a month rate before it ultimately goes up to $200+. And this is expected from you WITHOUT SEEING THE NEW FACILITY - because it is not completed. So they want you to look at a simulated video???? Oh, you do get to cancel your membership within 10 days, but not sure if they give you back your $60. Oh, and unlike the very close by Equinox (which charges almost the same rate), there is no sauna, no steam room and no pool. Just giving you a heads up.

After 8 years of being a member here I'm very disappointed to write this review. This gym has been closed for months and was supposed to open December the latest and appears no where close to reopening. There has been no update on a new timeline. When I complained to management they could not care less and were absolutely awful. Strongly recommend not joining.

It is the closest NYSC facility to where I live. When is this facility going to open? In the renovated space will so much of square footage and equipment continue to be dominated by trainers?

a great location, can't wait till the renovations are done
I have been a member and have attended off and on for years. I hate the place! It has 4 or 5 small floors. Once you're done climbing up an down the stairs, your workout is pretty much done. Recently though a new manager (constant changes in staff) sold me some personal training sessions with some caveats that have not been honored nor will they. I'm out $60.00 and the central office told me - "too bad." Nice. Not looking forward to it reopening as the Varick Street location is a nicer, cleaner place with much nicer staff.
place is ok for the lower price but staff not interested. some dont greet you when you walk in joined another gym and will discontinue most likely
I go to NYSC mostly because it's fairly affordable and I can take classes at multiple locations. However, I know it's not the best customer service... to say the least. However, this is the best location I've been to by a landslide. They have hired some new staff over the last few months as well as making improvements to the club itself and it's helped a lot. Louis (one of the new managers) is amazing, as is Jackie the girl at the front desk. Go to this one.
To even see the place you have to fill out a form on a electronic screen that asks you for your name, address, phone number, email, then how you heard of them, what you want from the facility, what kind of exercise and goals you have, what classes you might take. No one will even talk with you without all this informaiton in advance. This is an annoying way to handle customers, making the customer feel like a supplicant before he can even see the place and hear what they have to offer. From the looks of the size of the place, it probably doesn't offer many choices or much in the way of equipment and services. The person at the front desk and a few other staff people who showed up while I was going through the onerous form were lackadaisical and bored. There were balloons outside and ads for discounts. But I don't think I would join if the membership were only the lowest in town because I don't think I would ever feel like a valued customer.
