Do not go with NYSC- THEY ARE THIEVES! I've been trying to cancel my membership for 2 months and wasn't able to because you have to go in person. They were not able to accommodate the fact that I was not able to come in person. ON TOP OF THAT, they keep charging me and the other members EVEN THOUGH GYMS ARE MANDATORILY CLOSED IN THE MIDDLE OF AN INTERNATIONAL PANDEMIC.This is not only unprofessional but also completely unethical! DO NOT GO WITH THEM.

Terrible accounting/billing. Duplicate charges. No response for over 3 months. No refund on erroneous charges. (that is called stealing?) Our team goes to this gym and NYSC continues to wrongfully charge us, including duplicating charges after cancellations, EVEN when none of us can even use the gym at this time. Avoid the billing and admin headaches. Find a different gym.

Been a member for almost a decade....and i love it....staff friendly...have taken a few classes...well run....good array of equipment....

Beware because they will try to scam you out of not cancelling. The gym itself is okay, good equipment but small (expected in a city like Hoboken) but I've been trying to cancel my account for a few months now (since I'm moving to a place where there is no NYSC) and they have been less than helpful. I filled out a form in mid-February and was told someone would contact me the next day. No one did, so I called a week later and was fed the line "the manager isn't in right now but I'll leave your name and number so she can call you as soon as she's in." No one ever called me back; lo and behold on the 1st of this month they charged me for another month. Called today and I get the same "a manager isn't in" so I'm just going to dispute it with my credit card company since they clearly will just keep telling me this so they can charge me more money every month. Such a hassle for something that should be very simple.

Best gym by far for people who know what they're doing and how to get results. Not people looking to pay a trainer to talk to them while using a machine that's self explanatory

They will lie, cheat and steal to keep you from cancelling. Be careful.

They insist here that a manager must be present, but I spent 6 months trying to cancel and every time, magically, the manager wasn't present. I provided written cancellation notices and it didn't matter. I got a manager on the phone (after never ending calls) and they told me they'd cancel - then didn't and it wasn't in their system notes either when I called 2 months later.

The gym itself is fine, it's what you'd expect. People are reasonably pleasant, until you need to cancel. You can now cancel elsewhere, so FYI, there is hope!

I've been a member of this club for a couple years now. It's decent, definitely popular for Hoboken and gets extremely busy during peak times.

Machines are in good quality, good space to vary some workouts while waiting on equipment.

I do wish the classes were better, I'd be inclined to go more often. It's honestly worth paying for a spin class somewhere else than going to the ones they offer at NYSC, even if they're free with the membership. Classrooms need a vibe update and more interactive trainers

Shady business practices where an annual fee is waived per agreement, but surprises you the following year with the fee because they simply don't care about you. The agreements are, therefore, garbage and you will be screwed over.

To all Managers from Hoboken (14th St.), Hicksville, and Woburn,

I have been consistently getting $15 reoccurring charges from the Hicksville location for some UNKNOWN reason, which no staff member is able to explain to me, and now I am starting to get the same re-occuring charges from the Hoboken location. This is completely unacceptable because every time I ask any staff member at these gyms why I am being charged I get a bunch of different excuses. Sometimes I hear that I need to go to my original gym and speak to their manager about these charges. When I speak to my original gym (Woburn), I am told that I need to speak to the local gym that is charging me.

I have only used the Hicksville gym location maybe three times, and NO ONE ever mentioned to me that I would start getting charged. The last time I went to the Hicksville gym, I was told that my membership needed to be upgraded, which is why I was getting charged.

Over two weeks ago, I had upgraded my membership from Regional Passport to Passport via the Woburn gym, and then later even called to CONFIRM by another staff member that my membership was upgraded to Passport. I went to the Hoboken location later that week, and even the staff member at that time confirmed that I had a Passport membership. So I am unable to understand why I am being wrongfully charged by this location too.

Each gym is not taking responsibility for their own mistakes/wrongful charges. Now, I am being wrongfully charged, not by 1 gym now, but two (Hoboken and Hicksville). I have been a loyal member for at least two years, but at this point, with the way I am being charged and how much I pay for membership, I think it is better to go a more elite gym (Lifetime or Equinox) because none of your three locations are able to resolve my issues/concerns. I am requesting that ALL my reoccurring charges on my account are credited back from the beginning of the charges and this whole issue is resolved (from both Hicksville and Hoboken).

Best,
A Chani

Just had the worst customer service experience of my life attempting to cancel this gym. I went in in June to cancel, sat down with the employee Nadia, and gave all the information, filled out the form. She said I was good to go, and I left. I went back a couple weeks ago to see if I still had time left (they make you pay for 45 day "grace period" after cancelling) and she tells me that my account was not cancelled! She never put it through in the system, and "couldn't remember that far back". I spent the next two weeks being bounced back and forth by all the different managers: Andrew, Alla, and Allie. All of them were inept and told me I needed proof that I had went in: which they NEVER GAVE ME. To make it worse, I was a member for under one full year, and because the 45-day grace period extended to just beyond the year mark, they want me to pay a SECOND $95 yearly fee! In short, don't join this gym. They WILL charge you BS fees if you try to quit, and to top it all off, there were cockroaches in the men's lockers and showers every time I went in to the downtown location. Wish I could give less than one star.

Great location.

Also, please pay attention to the contract you sign with them. When you actually proceed to cancel your membership, it would be a disaster. According to them, your membership would rely only on yourself and as long as you still have your membership every single transaction they make is a VALID CHARGE!!
Thanks so much NYSC North Hoboken for teaching how to make big money by charging small monthly fee, annually fee, return fee continuously.
While the receptionists are nice and helpful but seems like their ONLY decision make who is also their manager is out of office forever and you could ONLY reach her when she is actually in the GYM(means you can hardly reach her).
Folks, please be advised that prepare your stamina and your wallet if you would like to cancel your membership here!!

Good variety of equipments, clean, and towels. Staff is friendly when I signed up the gym and when I wanted to cancel my membership, you would realize how useless they were. They charged me over $50 on my credit card without my permission four months after I cancelled my membership. (what's the difference to thief?)

People here I found out are sort of critical to other people. It's not the place for serious athletics to work out.

I have been going here 3+ times a week for a few years. It's a nice club. Nice space, good hours. Generally clean facilities, reasonably good equipment, plenty of people but not overly crowded. My experiences with the staff have all been good. Only negative is the occasional anti-social member, and the fact that a decent number of people just dump dirty towels wherever they please. Occasionally towels run out or the locker room misses a morning cleaning. But I think 5-stars given overall quality and low , low price for the local membership

Cancelling with this NYSC is a nightmare! I'm honestly not a person to complain and it takes a lot to get to me, but I had to share because I'm so fed up. I cancelled my membership in March as I moved out of state and they're still charging me. After multiple conversations with the manager and my credit card company, I'm STILL getting emails about past due notices even though the manager assured me all would be cleared. I would never recommend NYSC just because this process has been and is still such a hassle!

Decent space, but there might be better options in Hoboken. Can be crowded at peak hours.

** UPDATE** worst gym experience I've ever had, I ended up cancelling my membership.

*Update* My experience during my time here has gotten much better, I have no further issues with being uncomfortable etc. **

I have been a member at this gym's location for about 3 months now. The first couple of weeks were great! I was in need of a new gym in the area and this was my saving grace. They have a lot of variety and overall the facility itself (free weights, machines, different sections, etc), is great. Unfortunately, slowly but surely I began to feel more and more uncomfortable during my time here.

I feel as if my presence is unwanted by the trainers. More than half the trainers make me feel incredibly uncomfortable due to their constant staring. It's hard to focus on my workout and enjoy my time there while they consistently gawk during my entire time there that day. Their body language suggests that they are unpleased and annoyed that I am there. Recently I have felt so uncomfortable that I actually stop mid workout and leave. Sometimes the trainers are paying so much attention to me, they aren't focused on their client at all. I am a trainer myself and believe that fitness should be fun! I love motivating my clients and I always make sure that I provide an environment that is 100% inviting no matter what! The gym is a place for individuals to destress and work on themselves, body and mind. I do not believe that anyone should feel this way or have to deal with the level of unease that I have felt at this gym..especially from the trainers who are there as positive role models, to encourage and inspire. Actively looking for a new gym with good vibes!

I've come to like this gym, but there are some downsides. I believe your bill goes up the more often you use the gym. Sometimes they are out of towels and they are piled high in the used bin in the locker room. I recently had something stolen and now lock up my stuff. Equipment can be out of order for weeks at a time and the machine televisions never work. Overall it's a decent gym and for me it's most convenient to my location.

NYSC Uptown is well managed and clean. The staff is very friendly with the members. The trainers are dedicated to their clients and challenge them for the better. My trainer Jay Lally is a professional trainer who competes in body building competitions which requires a certain level of physical and mental discipline. I know that I am in good hands with reaching my goal of a great physique. I recommend him as your trainer with no hesitation. Planet Fitness or Crunch in Hoboken has nothing on this place!

April 6, 2018 11:00

The $19.99 specials goes up to $45 after a year...and if you cancel they still charge you for 45 days after...just be warned. Planet fitness on 6th is way cleaner and is only $10 a month!

February 11, 2018 18:02

Generally kept up well - and there is plenty of space and natural light to make for a nice workout. Recently the number of non-working treadmills, ellipticals and other equipment has been notching upwards...not a sign of things to come I hope!

Good value. Broad range of equipment. A few classes, you pay extra for the good ones. Gets crowded at peak times. Locker rooms are pretty disgusting. Staff is not very friendly, they seem unhappy.

November 18, 2017 17:58

***UPDATE*** Place has gotten cleaner. Locker room was renovated in shower area and towels are being picked up more frequently. TVs have been brought back online and working and vending machine changed. On the right path to getting 5 stars. I'm sure machines will be upgraded soon.

***FIRST REVIEW***Machines are in disrepair. Locker room is dirty with towels all over the floor.

November 12, 2017 22:01

Too small and crowded

October 30, 2017 10:53

Could be cleaner tbh, but good amount and variety of equipment. Helpful fun trainers. Clients too seem respectful all around. They need to have cleaning spray and wipes around to wipe up sweat on equipment after each use. Also sometimes smells like stinky feet when you walk in. Must improve on those sanitary issues.

October 18, 2017 10:45

Gym is fine if you want standard exercise equipment. Gets super crowded during peak hours.
But when I wanted to cancel the membership, you must do it in person. Both times that I've gone to cancel, the manager was never on duty and no other associates can do the cancellation. This is really disappointing.

October 18, 2017 10:45

Fairly cheap monthly pay. Good facility. Nice workers. But when I tried to cancel my membership I either have to come in on the weekend (I don't live near hoboken) or send a certified check (and spend extra money). It is easier to cancel my credit card or fake my death!

October 18, 2017 10:45

I really love the atmosphere at this NYSC location. It's a really cool workout vibe and the staff is always really friendly. It is a tight spot but it's Hoboken so if you want a ton of space, this isn't for you. The layout works really well with the space limitations. My only concern with this location is cleanliness. I would give a 4-star rating, but there are some real dusty areas in the gym, unclean cup holders at some of the cardio machines, and rust stains in the toilet bowls. So this location really needs a heavy-duty, incremental cleaning and it will be really good.

October 18, 2017 10:45

Air conditioning frequently breaks in the studios and never quite feels cool on the floors. Treadmills need to be replaced. Stair climbers and treadmills constantly down for repairs.

October 18, 2017 10:45

Best all-around gym in the area for the price. I take classes mostly and love them! You really can't beat the price if you choose the membership for just the one gym.
