I cancelled my 10 day free trial, in person at the gym, about 8 days after I signed up for it back in October. The front desk staff assured me that a note would be placed in my file for Angela the General Manager, who wasn't there at the time, to process the following business day when she would be at the office.
A suspicious $25 charge appeared on my credit card statement a month later. I called the gym and the front desk staff pulled up my account and noted that, even though a cancellation request was entered before the 10 day trial period was up, I was indeed still being charged because Angela the General Manager never processed my request.
Again, I was assured I would have nothing to worry about and that another note would be put in my file for Angela the General Manager to process when she would be in the office the following business day. I was even told that a note would be placed on her desk.
Unfortunately, I noticed more charges on my credit card statement today. I called to speak to Angela the General Manager to find out why I am still being charged a maintenance fee and these ridiculous surcharges when I cancelled my membership before the initial 10 day free trial expired two months ago. She chided me for not directly speaking to her back when I wanted to cancel my 10 day free trial, and instead told me that member services would help. Member services told me they couldn't do anything. Then, they told me that Angela the General Manager likely told me to call them so that they can tell me that it is up to Angela the General Manager to process cancellations and refunds. Member services confirmed that a a total of three cancellation requests were placed in my file as of today.
I tried to call Angela back, and she dropped my call as soon as the front desk connected me to her office's phone number.
I just got off the line with my bank, and I may now have to get a new credit card. This sports club is a preposterously fraudulent scheme that defies understanding. Angela the General Manager is inexplicably incompetent, rude, and self-righteous for someone who tries to run a gym in Bay Ridge.

I just got a phone call from the new NYSC 86th street location. While I didn't catch her name, the change in the General Manager's tone was phenomenal. My refund is being processed, and it seems Angela the General Manager has "moved on to bigger and better things".
