I am a very sedentary person. I want to be more active, but traditional exercise bores me to tears, so I thought I'd give boxing a try. As soon as I put in an inquiry, I received a text within minutes offering me a free class that was convenient with my schedule. I said I'd prefer a female instructor and there were no questions or hesitations, they just told me the class times that have a female instructor.
When I got there, Kaila was super friendly and helpful. She helped me wrap my hands (wraps are only $10) and then the instructor Shannon walked me and another newbie through the basic punches. I felt welcomed and not embarrassed or silly.
When the class itself started, I was instantly pumped up. My main concern when I exercise is other people as I am very self-conscious, but you can't even see most of the others in the class because of the bags. There were people of all shapes, ages, and ability levels. They pushed us hard but also made sure to let us know to listen to our bodies and not go past our physical limit.
Unfortunately, I did not listen to that advice and I really pushed myself during the warmup. So much so, that I began to feel nauseous and ended up vomiting. Kaila was so nice and got me a trash can and a free bottle of water. She did not push me to keep going nor did she try to upsell me on another class, but she told me not to let this set me back from my fitness goals. I think I need to start small and work up to this intense workout before I go back, but what I did do was a blast.
Truly, the only complaint I would have is that the music is so loud that I had trouble hearing the instructions, but Shannon had so much energy and made sure to move around so we could see her doing the exercises even if I could not hear the instruction. I felt powerful and like I was building a skill as well as getting an awesome workout. Even that fifteen-minute warmup left me sore for two days.
All in all, this is an amazing facility, clean and modern, the staff are extremely helpful and knowledgeable, and you will get the most grueling and fun workout of your life!
