I began practicing Kungfu about 5 years ago at another school in New Orleans. After spending 1 year at that school I decided to travel to China and visit THE Shaolin Temple. The visit made me realize what I was learning at the time was not authentic Shaolin and not the right fit for me.
After trialing other martial arts schools (karate) in New Orleans I found the Shaolin Institute. The Shaolin Institute is a positive and safe environment to learn, grow and challenge yourself without judgement, fear or harshness. What is taught is real Shaolin Kungfu and relaxing Tai chi. I went half way across the world to find what's right here in New Orleans. A place to grow physically and mentally through martial arts AND have fun while doing it.
I love learning about a 1500 year old style of martial arts. People are great and learning here is fun

The Schools inability to give students a concise message on things like time, costs distract from the lessons. Master Loo is almost never there, and does not contribute to the students education.
Additionally, they like to misinform you about their paperwork - watch out for trick contracts.
When I was a teenager I trained in Kung Fu and other martial arts. Then between school and work I felt as though I did not have enough time to attend classes any longer. While that may have been true; looking back at the age of 35 I wish I had made time. Training in martial arts I always looked for something traditional, searching for a highly qualified traditional school is not an easy thing. My wife and I decided we needed to work on getting fit, she stated that she found a site and wanted to take a look. As it turns out it was Shi Deru's school in Atlanta Georgia. We came on a Sunday and it was not open at the time but was interesting to me as I read things such as Shaolin Gong Fu, Tai Chi, Tai Gong. Later in the week I made a phone call and spoke to Shifu, we came in a few days later for a trial and I have been there ever since. My only wish is that I had found the opportunity to work with Shifu even sooner. Training at the Liu Institute has been an incredible experience and together my wife and I have grown to love our new Kung Fu family. Go into training with an open mind and heart. Getting fit and staying fit is not an overnight process. This will require patience, endurance and dedication but there is a payoff for hard work. Anything worth doing does not come easy and this is sincerely worth every drop of sweat. I can only recommend to start today and change your life forever.
