The North Side YMCA gym is a clean and friendly place to work out. The showers are always clean, and I have always had access to a locker, no matter what time I was there. The staff is always smiling and easy to approach in case you have questions about anything. I can only speak to the time I am there, (between 9 and noon), but there is someone there constantly cleaning the equipment and ready to answer any questions new people have about the equipment. The equipment is new and well maintained. During the 2 1/2 years I have been there, all the treadmills (maybe a dozen or more) have been replaced with newer models. I have never had a problem with parking. I would not hesitate recommending this facility to anyone.

The staff and and the atmosphere make North easily my favorite Lexington YMCA. Another plus is that they stick to the schedule they publish.
I always feel welcomed by the staff from entry to exit. A wonderful space to exercise whether individual or group!

Its a really nice place but the staff are snobby and too helpful. It feels like they spend too much time focusing on themselves instead ofthe members. They lack friendly smiles and attitude.

I love the classes here. They are so much more smaller than the ones at Whitaker YMCA. You also never have to wait for a piece of equipment.

They've just renovated and it is very nice!
Best Y in town and I have been to all of them. I wish they would build an outdoor lap pool right behind it for daily swimmers! Staff is always so nice and helpful! I love to go to the North Y!!

After the renovation, this facility is much better. I have a citywide membership, so I go to all 4 YMCAs and I like the fitness center at Northside the best. The wall to wall windows are nice and there is plenty of equipment. The locker rooms and clean and modern and there is a family corridor for swimming with the little ones.
However, there is room for improvement. The most critical thing is there is NO PEDESTRIAN walkway leading to the building. I wanted to walk to the Y with my child in a stroller, but that means pushing it up a driveway that is shared by cars (and for a bit, walking in the street, but that is a matter for the city). For an organization like the Y that is supposed to be focused on health and family, this is just odd. I asked if there was another way in via a sidewalk, and the front desk person said no.
On that note, the staff could be more friendly. I am not looking for the royal treatment. I'd settle for a "hello" when I walk in the door. A few members of the evening childcare staff are strange. They say very little, barely even a greeting when I take my daughter in. They don't greet her at all. And the whole atmosphere in the room is just...cold, quiet and not very fun. It's a strong contrast to the Whitaker YMCA, where the childcare staff are all warm, friendly, know my child by name and greet her.
Finally, I have found that out of all 4 Lexington YMCAs, the Northside has the largest amount of people who don't follow good spa etiquette. I've personally seen people wear dirty, outdoor shoes and track grass and mud into the steam room. Almost everyone brings their electronics into the sauna, and many don't bother to use headphones, instead playing music and videos through the speaker for everyone to hear. I have never seen any of the YMCA staff enforce or address this. Even the swim coaches wear their street shoes into the pool area, and you'd think at least they would set an example and respect pool rules.
I'm aware that I'm more sensitive than most, but all I want is a relaxing environment where I can work out, use the spa, not walk on a road made for cars, and feel good about who is watching my child. Hopefully, these things will improve, as this is my neighborhood Y and I pay them my hard earned money each month.
My favorite why in town! Definitely the best staff in the area!!
Amazing place for your family to go to and have fun splashing
I love this facility and the "Silver Sneakers' program. I normally try to come 5 days a week. Our group is like family; we love and care for each other. The workouts are a lot of fun and I would recommend the program for any and all SENIORS.

The pool is awesome I go every morning except Sunday, the renovations in the lockers rooms are great. I used to come to this one before, years ago. And once I left due to illness, when I decided to go back in Oct I went to another location because of the warm water pool, then when it closed for maintenance, i went to another, then they had a problem after Christmas and ended back at North, I was thrilled that the water was not warm but not shockingly cold, and the staff are really nice. And i stayed for a couple of aerobic classes that were great. This is now my Y again. I will go back to visit at my old one once in a while to see my friends that l made there. But North is my new/old, from now on.

Incredible staff. Very friendly and helpful. Only issue is that sometimes a few of the machines in the cardio room are broken down or the Tvs don't work, but they have plenty of them.

I went to this facility on a field trip with my preschool class, and they had their summer camp going. I'm pregnant for the first time and have to use the restroom quite frequently. When I attempted to do so the staff was rude and unwelcoming. They also offered little assistance to our children, and their needs. I guess you have to be part of their elitist group to be treated like a human being. I was going to join the facility so I can swim for exercise for the health of my baby, but no thank you, I feel I would get treated better at a country club than this supposed "community" based facility.
Clean. Very friendly staff. Family/ community feel. The weight has all the necessary equipment you need and more to in improve you well being.
