USSD prairie village is amazing! My son has learned so much about balance, respect, strength and is overall a more confident kid in just 6 months. Also, he is so much stronger than he was 6 months ago! Sensei Emily is fantastic with kids: she shows them respect and in response the kids show her respect as well. We love kempo!
Our daughter and son started here at 6 and 4. They have learned so much and they love going! The price is higher than some other places, but you get a lot for the money (classes, private lessons). And they love Sensei Emily!
My two children have been doing Kempo here for almost a year and they love it! I love the self control and perseverance they have gained. It's a great program and Sensei Emily is wonderful with my kids!
My daughter has gone here for individual and group classes for a few months. She has learned a lot and enjoys the class. I am glad i enrolled her after being bullied . The instructors are very kind and patient teaching the techniques to the kids. I truly do recommend the classes it is very empowering for kids teen and adults.
I've been working out here for more than a year and it's a wonderful group of people. The instructors push you hard but are incredibly friendly and supportive, as are the other students. It's a great experience and I highly recommend it.
My Grandson loves everything about the Corinth location.
He is always so excited to go to class. The Sensei are amazing! He has learned so much!
I recommend highly.
So thoughtful to all students, down to earth, willing to break down the fundamentals for the kids. I nanny a student and he looks forward to Thursday to come learn! Emily is awesome to Bobby! I recommend Kempo to everyone I know.

I have been taking karate lessons in the USSD system for eight years. I have found it loads of fun and empowering. I am impressed with their system of teaching. Each class has interesting material. The teachers are inspiring. They are considerate of physical limitations. It is very effective exercise. I'm 55 years old. If you are even just slightly interested, I find it hard to imagine anyone regretting giving it a try.

My son has learned so much from the great instructors. They are very focused on the principles as well as safety of the students. Each class schedule is different which keeps the students attention and their interest. My son's self confidence is building as are his skills. His self control is also improving. RK
My son has been attending classes here for about two years and has been progressing great! He participates in private lessons once a week as well as in the classes and he really made great strides. Not only that, but the Sensei (Emily, in particular) have taken a personal interest in making sure that my son not only advances with his skills, but learns responsibility, respect and work ethic. The only reason I didn't give the Studio 5 stars is because of the cost. It is definitely an investment. For example during one month I paid $170 for the lessons, $160 for sparing gear, then had to pay $100 for my son to test for his next belt testing (you have to pay additional cost for every testing). If you had that all up, it is quite the investment for a 9 year old boy. I feel like that cost could discourage kids and parents in community from attending. Also, my son has referred 3 friends to also join because of how much he likes it and there were no referral benefits (not even a thank you) for doing so, which I feel in an usual business practice. But I guess at this point the business is so established, they may not feel like that is necessary.

This school is Wonderful. The my daughter's sensei and her classmates are amazing. Everyone is so positive and Encouraging.Everyone has accepted her for who she is even though she has a disability. I recommend this school to everyone.
I just joined a couple of weeks ago and have been loving every minute of it. The instructors are very professional and truly care about every student. I personally enjoy the classes as a way to stay healthy and challenge myself to learn new techniques.

My son has been attending classes, and private lessons, at USSD - Prairie Village for some time now. The instructors are all very knowledgeable, caring, attentive, great at working with children, and find a good balance between learning and having fun. My son has gained a lot of confidence through these classes, and takes a lot of pride in progressing. Classes are typically small enough that there is a lot of one on one attention, large enough that there are opportunities to work with others and make friends. Would definitely recommend this for parents who are looking to give their children a positive ongoing experience with martial arts.

The senseis care a great deal about their students, teaching them life lessons as well as karate. Amazing place that I cannot recommend more. Ava and Nathan, my kids, have gone for years and they both have learned discipline, perseverance, and confidence along with the physical hard work.
USSD has thoughtful and skilled instructors who pair your goals to a mindful workout. Everyone, including participants, work towards creating a positive and supportive environment. Highly recommended to maintain your physical well-being.
Great place! Phenomenal instruction and practical martial arts. I've trained with United Studios for years; it's the best. I always get a great full body workout and every session is different and fun. Love the detail and attention of the personal training sessions and the workout, practice, and application of the group classes. I recommend this place to everyone.
Caring, positive, and upbeat instructors. Professional and clean. Instructors are great working with both my kids and me. Plus, they do personal training sessions along with their group classes which really help my kids and me learn better and progress faster. Kids work on focus, confidence, discipline, and coordination and I get a great workout and stress relief! Very happy here!

I have been a student here for a couple of years now, and it has been a wonderful experience. I have trained at all of their locations, and they are all fantastic. The instructors really know their stuff, and they genuinely care about their students' success. Martial arts is about more than just punching and kicking, and USSD really gives the complete experience including focus, discipline, and self confidence (although there is no shortage of punching and kicking). I highly recommend this company!
More expensive than many martial arts classes, but the instructors are excellent with kids and keep the classes fun.
From Bob Benson
I joined USSD 10 years ago at the age of 62. I thought I was too old to begin taking karate and besides I was in a good place in my life and getting close to retiring but after just one lesson, I knew that it was the beginning of a wonderful journey. In fact it was one of the best decisions I have ever made in my life and I have had a very rewarding life with regard to my family, my career, my friends and my many hobbies.
But kempo at USSD made me reflect about things in ways that I had never done before. It taught me how to relax and even improved my ability to focus for long periods of time. It gave me the opportunity to find out what I was made of when I hit a wall that I thought was too high to climb. And the friendships with those who you do forms with, who you do defense maneuvers with and with whom you spar become special friendships. It also taught me about controlling my emotions a necessary response when sparring. Mr. Bartlett told us repeatedly when we first started that when we enter the dojo, our ego stays at the door. This lesson works for the home, the workplace or anywhere else where relationships are important. My only regret was that I didn't start when I was a kid. Then again one of the biggest reasons for my amazing experience at USSD is the phenomenal instructors. I think they must have been born to do this. In closing I would just like to say that I learned more about life and about myself at the USSD than all of the sports I played. So THANK YOU Mr. Bartlett, Sensei Janell, Sensei Karen and Sensei Emily for making my later years even better than they could have ever been.
Let me tell everyone about this disgusting business. Let me start by saying that my little brother is an adult with autism. The staff here went to my brother at his place of employment and lured him into their business and told him that he would be very good at Self Defense classes. They then tried to run his credit card- knowingly taking money from a special needs person without a guardian's permission. His card was declined and only then did they contact me looking for money. After talking with my brother he indicated that he was not even interested in these classes and that they had come to his work and talking him into coming to their "studio." Then they call me saying that the items they gave him: a folder and a pamphlet- were going to be charged to his account. They also claimed they had given him a gui or outfit which they had not and wanted to charge him for that as well. They are the ones who gave a special needs adult items without contacting a guardian and then they were trying extort money from him for a stupid booklet. Today to my great surprise and shock I find that months later they STILL had his credit card number on file and charged the items to his account for $100. This place is morally corrupt without ethical practices and should NOT be the place to send children or adults for self defense classes.
The instructors here are great!! They want you to succeed and teach you at your own pace. Not once in my ten years of martial arts training have I had a problem here.
This place is a rip off and they take advantage of people. They should be ashamed of themselves!
