Management and staff are rude and unprofessional, they act more like bouncers at a night club than a professional working for a successful health club chain. They all seem to work out during peak hours taking up equipment and talking to each other and not allowing paying members to use. Asking them for some ice (since all the water coolers are broke) you would think required them to walk over fire, I see them walk by trash and ignore items that should be picked up and put away.
I was really excited to see that Genesis had purchased this gym but then could not be more disappointed in my visits and will not return util I hear that Genesis has changed the staff to fit the standards they have at their other clubs. I can see now at least in part why the worlds gym went under, I would speculate a large part has to due with the unprofessional staff that still lingers.

Was pretty happy at location on Shawnee Mission Pkwy. Not really sure why they closed doors and moved to World Gym location but I AM disappointed in the new (very old) place. Pretty run down! Lighting bad and flooring looks unsafe in places. I worry I might fall here. They didn't move some of the best machines to this place and some of the old World Gym stuff is just not as ergonomically sound. Was considering just quitting, have been a member for many years, but another member convinced to give them a chance to update this facility. Disappointed!!

Was a perfect score, now just a 3. I was going to the Shawnee location almost everyday for four years since 2014. I was very let down when I walked in last Friday, 6/22/18, and was told they were closing my location for good. They said the Shawnee location was too close to their World Gym location, so they decided to close up and that I should go there. Maybe I missed it in an email, but I wish I could have had more notice. I'm still trying my best to give the new place a chance, but the machines are WAY too close together. I can hardly squeeze behind the machines to add weight without hitting someone on another machine. I also feel like the machines that face each other are so close that it's awkward to stare in the face of the person across from me. I will also miss the large hot tub and pool.

I've been a member here for 6 years & gone on a daily basis during this time. It is dirty as other reviewers have said. Bathrooms are filthy and stink really bad. Doesn't bother me that much. It has the basic weight & cardio equipment needed to take care of yourself. Certainly no bells or whistles.
Went in this morning to find the gym would be closing for good tomorrow, Friday, June 22nd 2018. Despite what had to be months of planning, they chose to give all of their customers just 24 hours notice. They're trying to shuffle everyone further down the road to KC Racquetball club, whatever the hell that is. Neither of their websites have been reflected to show this. Terrible way to do business.
Great gym! Fun staff too. I love my fitness advisor shishi
This gym is a scam. Back when 24 hour still had ownership, this place was well kept together with good monthly membership fees. Ever since Genesis took over, they have become a money hungry company. $51 per month for a dirty gym that is never cleaned or refurbished is not suitable for anyone. PLUS you have to pay a yearly $39 surplus charge for no given reason and it spring up on you without notice. The management is rude when you ask questions/cancel and they HAVE you sign you up for the long haul rather than just a yearly or monthly contract. The equipment is never washed or cleaned so if you get a skin rash or something related to that, you know who to blame! The basketball court is slippery and I had to stop playing there after twisting my ankle when I went in for a layup and I slid all over the ground. The sauna/steam room is never cleaned the showers remain dirty for days on end. I called the main offices and asked them where does all this money go that we are spending on this gym, and they never gave me an answer. They kept dodging it and shifting the conversation to something else. If you're looking for a place just to workout at or lift weights, just go to Planet Fitness. If you're looking to play basketball or swim, join the local civic centre for a much cheaper price. Online they say that you can get a student discount and when I asked about it on my sign up day, they acted like they never even heard about it. This gym is just not worth it.

My home gym is the lees summit location. I decided to try this one because it was closer to my work. Big regret. I worked out fine but when i went to shower after i was disgusted and disappointed. The showers are so small i can barely move around, there are no shelves so you have to put your toiletries on the ground, and the showers are so gross. Mildew, stained floors, and hair all over the walls made it appear the showers hadn't been cleaned in months. If this was home location i would have never signed up and i never plan on coming back to this location.
Money hungry company!!! they lie about prices and what they will charge you. They are rude when you cancel. The child area has one sitter to like 10 kids including infants.. Nick the assistant manager don't know his job at all.. and they are quick to say someone is being rude to them to hang up the phone..just don't waste your time going here.. I have paid 500.00 for one month of use. And they still contacting me asking for more money.. you can go to planet fitness and get way more at quarter of the cost.. and most of the 5 star reviews are employee's
I've been going in the morning because of my work schedule, it's never crowded at that time which is nice. The women's locker room is spacious. Haven't had time to enjoy all the areas yet. It's a smaller gym than what I'm used to but I like that the staff is friendly and there is always access to the different stations and machines.
This club is pretty nice but nothing over the top. The equipment works and there is a large variety. They have child care watch available (I haven't used it but it is an option). Make sure to get a lock for the locker before you go! Overall decent gym.
I really like this gym and the staff it has are GREAT. Every time I come in it's a friendly hello to start my workout. If I ever have a quick question about something Courtney and Taylor are always willing to answer it. Some of the equipment is older but 98% everything is up an going and able to use. 2 reasons I don't give it 5 stars. 1- tend to run out of paper towels or sanitizer from time to time and it's annoying. 2- They said the place was going to have some remodeling done to it in the near future when I got my membership 10 months ago and nothing has been remodeled.
Never actually used the equipment but it's the same as every other gym. After talking to the used car salesman they hired for their sales team it was too shady to signup for. Look, all I want to do is give you money once a month in exchange for being able to use your equipment. That doesn't require you to have my drivers license on file. That doesn't require a reoccurring charge on my credit card. You requesting that information makes a really clear statement. You're more interested in forcing people to pay for something they may not want to pay for anymore than you are providing a legitimate exchange of money for service.
There are smaller gyms in the area that don't have such shady business tactics. I recommend checking them out. If you decide to go to genesis make sure you read everything before signing anything.
Very friendly and helpful staff. All the machines work. Clean and neat ladies' room and entry area. My trainer is a pleasure to work with.
I love the Shawnee Mission Pkwy Genesis Health Club! I used to live in the area which is why I signed up for this gym (back when it was 24 Hour Fitness). I used to just do my own workouts using the equipment (which was great) until I attended the Group X classes. Not only are the workouts tough in all the right ways, but the instructors are AWESOME! They really take the time to prepare for the class and encourage you from start to finish. Not only that, but they also take the time to answer questions after all their classes. Four years later and a move to Zona Rosa, I still travel to this gym (yes, a 30 minute drive) because of the experienced instructors that push me to achieve my goals. I don't know where I would be without them!
I really like our gym. It's big and spacious enough that even on the busy times I can have an enjoyable work out. All the staff are welcoming and nice. I would love to have more Olympic rings and workout gear for that type of training. More pull up bars as well. Overall I'm extremely happy with my membership and the gym in general. We have been going to the 119th and metcalf location for about 2 1/2 years now and it's by far our favorite. We have visited others but none compare to size, space and workout equipment variety. Thanks for keeping all the equipment in working order for the huge demand of people that use that location.
