I joined Fitness Xpress a year ago because it was cheap. The equipment is fine, and the hours are workable. The place smells musty, and the neighbor is VERY sketchy.

But the problem with this place is the terrible business practices they use. Fitness Xpress, along with MANY other fitness places, is run by a company called ABC Financial. In order to cancel your membership with this place, you have to send a letter in the mail to ABC Financial and ask them to please cancel your membership. That's the only way. THEY WILL NOT CANCEL IT OVER THE PHONE OR EVEN AT THE GYM. You must send them a letter. And then after they receive the letter, it's another 30 to 90 days before they stop billing you. And even though there are no "Cancellation Fees" there are "Processing Fees".

So when you decide to cancel your membership, they will charge you for 3 months AFTER you cancel, and then another $50 to $200 in "processing fees".

And that's if you're lucky. Google ABC Financial and you'll find THOUSANDS of complaints about this company and their SCAMS.

I have been going to this gym for over two years, and it has been rapidly declining since then. When I first joined in '09, all of their machines worked well, the place was constantly clean and tidy, and the atmosphere was overall positive.
Their televisions were once radio-friendly, in that you could tune your mp3 into a station and listen to the television. They suddenly discontinued that and now every single one of their televisions is tuned to either rodeo/bull-riding, sports, or a money stock ticker. Great gym entertainment.
Then they stopped running the AC as often and even cut the fans at times so the gym is often stifling in the spring and summer months. They also removed the paper towel dispensers (used for wiping down equipment) and replaced paper towels with ratty old washcloths (if you can even find them) that get balled up and squished under the spray bottles. I know for a fact the washcloths aren't changed everyday, leaving them damp, gray, bacteria-ridden, and health code-violating.
The bathrooms (women's, at least) is continually understocked as well. I have had to inform the staff on numerous occasions about lack of paper towels and toilet paper. And yet just yesterday when I went in, one of the stalls was out of order, the other stall was out of toilet paper, and there was no hand soap in either of the dispensers. That, coupled with dirty washcloths and sticky, humid air makes for a lovely atmosphere.
And despite all of that, I have continued my membership because the equipment is generally always open (because people have stopped coming here, apparently) and working well.
Sadly folks, that is no longer the case. 2 out of the 4 stationary bikes have been "broken" for months and no one has fixed them. 2 of the treadmills have loose treads that make it impossible to run comfortably, and one of the ellipticals makes a shrill squeaking noise when used. All of these problems are very apparent, and I've heard numerous people threatening over the past month to terminate their membership.
I, unfortunately, am locked in for a few more months, so I will be finishing out my membership and then fleeing to another gym. It's unfortunate that this place has fallen so far from it's original "glory," because many of these are such quick fixes that could and should have been done months ago.

...And, apparently, after reading the other reviews on here, quitting the gym will be hell as well. Yay.

ABC Financial billing cost me lots of extra late fees that were their fault. I gave them a working credit card, and because they weren't able to process it properly i was charged 17 dollars on more than one occasion. It cost about 40 dollars to cancel and you need to give a one month notice. That way they get to charge you for another month. It's also a pain to get it cancelled, requiring a written letter and proof that I moved. The gym was ok, but I would never have joined knowing what i know now
