My wife and I are both CF L1 trainers, and we travel quite a bit. We like to call ourselves "CrossFit tourists," because one of our favorite things to do on the road is check out new gyms. There's always something unique, something to learn, and a fun new vibe. I am also the managing editor of a leading health and fitness website, so I know a few things about best practices, and what a gym looks and sounds like when it's being run the right way.
Max Oxygen CrossFit Downtown is doing it right, in spades. Great programming, enthusiastic and knowledgeable coaching staff, and probably the best community I've experienced in the dozens of gyms that I've dropped into. No exaggeration. My wife and I were in town for 4 days, and worked out 3 times with the MOCFDT crew. At the end of it, we all ended up at a martini bar next to our AirBnB, yakking away like old friends.
If every gym was like this place, there would be no out of shape people, anywhere. I am now searching for excuses to go back to Des Moines (I know, right?) just so I can go throw down and hang out with these people again.
