The reason I'm so disappointed in this gym is because it has a lot of potential. I've worked out here for over a year now and only continue to work out here to see my trainer. This gym has not improved one bit in that time.
A whole third of the gym is unusable because the equipment belongs to the powerlifters or the tactical strength guys. The equipment is not well maintained. The attachments are old and damaged, the weights aren't tightened down onto the dumbells, and none of the plates match. Machines have loose bolts and squeaky hinges, and the barbell sleeves barely rotate.
The gym lacks some equipment that would really elevate it to a true bodybuilding gym, such as a decline bench, a lateral raise machine, etc. There is only one useable bench, one platform, and one squat box.
The gym is always disorganized. They fired the only attendant who ever tidied up. Staff turnover here is frequent.
The pro shop is overpriced even for a gym pro shop.
Parking is horrible. You have to double park down the street, and the staff move your car to let others out.
The owners are all personal trainers here as well and it seems they are more interested in that than running their gym. They never enforce any kind of conduct policy. I've seen barefoot people working out, and even a lady with her baby stroller (baby in it!) on the workout floor.
This is a good gym with good vibes and I hope they will take this into account and improve. There are not many decent options in Honolulu.
