I called a day prior to inquire about playing pickleball and I explained that I was visiting from another city. The person I spoke with informed me that pickleball was played at 7:30 a.m. on Wed & Fri and for me to only to bring in an id and they allowed 14 guest visits. Well, I showed up at 7:20 and explained to the white male at the desk that I was there to play pickleball & I had spoken to someone the day prior and told me I would have 14 guest visits. He asked if I was a member of YMCA and I told him I was not. He said it was policy to be a member and I was not allowed to play. The person on the phone didn't ask about membership, she just said to come in. Had I known anything about membership, I would not have wasted my time and gas driving over there.
I asked about a military discount as I am retired military with 23 years service. He mentioned something about waiving the fee, but didn't add anything further. When he was talking to me, he had a rude demeanor as he was typing on his computer, didn't apologize for me wasting my time, hardly any eye contact, like I was infringing on his day. Later found out he was the manager....what a poor example of customer service to set. For the reviewer who said the workers don't smile there.... It begins at the top...if leadership isn't smiling, no one else is. Like it was said in 'Remember the Titans'...."attitude reflects leadership"
From the feedback from reviews, they claim to address the customer service issues and unfriendly attitudes. Apparently, nothing has changed.
