Hilariously bad. Half the machines are broken with no fix in sight. The equipment is old and dirty. Lockers are disgusting and have not been cleaned in years. Equipment is ancient and dirty and clearly not kept up. Gym is always over capacity. There never appears to be anyone working there save for one clueless person behind the desk.

Only one smith machine, often broken.

Only one trap bar, handles broken and not properly connected to bar.

I watched the cable of the dip machine snap and drop someone about 5.5 feet to the ground weeks ago - machine is still broken. See photo

Only 1-2 bike machines are usable as they are the only ones that still have foot straps.

If you lose your pass (you probably will) you will have to pay them $10 for a replacement.

Don't join this gym. It's filthy, overcrowded, equipment is broken and dangerous, it's VASTLY too expensive, and just generally terrible. Worst gym I've ever joined.

2 squat racks. Over crowded most the time. It's the only financially viable option in the area.

I'll echo what many have said below about the negligence of Gold's Gym when it comes to membership and financial practices. Gold's Gym charged me for two additional months after I cancelled and has been completely unresponsive as I have tried to fix the situation. They sent me to collections trying to charge me for two months I do not owe, and to this day I have not been able to get through to a person of authority who can remove these invalid charges from debt collection and from my credit report. DO NOT join Gold's Gym, the management and financial practices are horrible, negligent, and unresponsive.

It has what you need to get a workout. Not super clean but good enough for the price!

Edit: changed to 5 stars because the employees have all been great!

Definitely do not become a member of this gym. I read all the google reviews beforehand and still ignored them and signed up for a membership anyway. Upon signing up, they assure you that cancelling your membership will be easy and you will not be charged additional fees if you are moving away. When I tried to cancel, they charged me for an extra month anyway, despite promising this would not happen. As a student, this is a huge burden on me.
I cannot tell you how much I hate this place.
Please do not give this place your money--They will lie to you and get as much money out of you as possible.

I worked out at this location for a few years because it was close to my work. Not a bad facility, always clean, staff was nice, equipment was in good condition. The only complaint I have is their bs cancellation process. I'm really surprised they are still able to force customers to pay for a membership even though they want to cancel immediately. Make sure you pay very close attention to the cancellation process and invoice dates, they force you to come in person or send a certified cancellation letter, what company nowadays doesn't let a customer cancel before the next billing cycle. This is an outdated process and a bit predatory for that last payment. I cancelled at the end of May and they wouldn't stop billing me until 7/20, just had to get my last payment and a half. Because of that bad taste in my mouth, when I join a gym, which I will soon, it will not be a Golds and I will spread the word to family and friends about this forced payment practice even though I was no longer using their facility. Horrible business model.

Overall solid gym. Has free weights, machines, many different cardio machines, classes, and spin classes. The lockers and showers could use an update but the gym is a good workout spot.

Went there two days in a row to attempt to sign up as new members. First day we supposedly "just missed" the person who signed up new members (it was 3 PM) The front desk receptionist then proceeded to tell us the only way we could work out that day was to buy a $15 guest pass. We were instructed by him to return between the hours of 9 and 6 PM the following day to sign up.

We returned at 9 AM this morning. We were written off AGAIN, being told that the individual who signs new members up would not arrive until 11:30 AM. When expressing our frustration and us only wanting to work out as we have very busy schedules (we are here for a summer internship on Capitol Hill) we were once again told that they wouldn't be here until later.

Very VERY dissatisfied with the lack of customer service. GOOD CUSTOMER SERVICE WOULD HAVE BEEN someone acknowledging our frustrations and offering a free guest pass until someone was able to sign us up. GOOD CUSTOMER SERVICE WOULD HAVE BEEN apologizing that we were misinformed by the receptionist and admitting fault. None of these happened.

We will not be returning and suggest that others find another gym as well that treats their customers with respect and dignity.

I use it on my lunch break. Don't take a break in between sets because this will happen.

I'm a gold's gym member, and I typically use the Centreville/Merrifield locations. I've never actually been to the 19th and L St location. However, that didn't stop them from charging me for towel services.. When I called to try to correct this, they said they'd call back, and instead did nothing. The transactions all posted, and now I have to file the dispute with the credit card company. Way to go, guys.

I like this gym because of the complete equipment and nice facilities. I would have given them a 5, but last week, the locker area was not really that clean and it took them 2 days to take notice. Besides that, everything else is good.

Problems with heat, showers, classes getting cancelled, equipment breaks and doesn't get fixed, lockers broken, etc.......only bright spot is Dee who opens in the morning.

Probably more like 3.5s. My home Golds in a Virginia suburb is much bigger and nicer, but this works fine for lunchtime workouts. The corporation really needs to pump some money into this location, though. I haven't seen hardly any improvements over the past two years.

The gym has lot of machines and relation quality price is good. I recommend it.

Beware of extra fees and cancellation policy. Very rigid with there policies My son joined this gym during summer and indicated at time of sign up that he was only going to be in DC for two months. He was charged 3 additional months since and they are unwilling to reverse charges. He is only a student with limited resources.

Small mediocre gym designed for office-lunch workouts. There are only 2 squat racks: an oly platform/rack, and an angled non-adjustable walk-in rack. 2 flat benches. In theory you can strength train here, but it's more cardio oriented. Parking is a nightmare except on Sunday. Dead on weekends in this high-rise office area.
Not hating - it's in the gold network so if you're around your key-fob works here. It'll do and you're only steps away from casual office clothes shopping and tacos. No strength trainers are likely to be competing with you for the 1 good squat rack, but you may feel strange doing pull ups where the 1 ceiling tile is removed for your head's room...

Need major improvements. Small, one rope and bikes are broken. Overall disappointing

The 'old school' feel of this gym doesn't quite make up for its shortcomings, mainly the bad ventilation, which makes working out a painful experience when the place gets crowded. The maintenance of the machines is sometimes not as prompt as one would expect, usually taking quite a bit of time to get them repaired. The place is fairly clean, and the staff handles themselves decently. The flexible fees make this gym OK, but far from great as it is.

October 23, 2017 12:17

A joke.... signed up with them the guy told me there is no cancellation fee and by me working with the world bank I get a discount "discount lasted about 3 months until I noticed more fees" gym extremely tiny with equipment cluttered, super weird in the locker room oh and once I canceled?? $40 cancellation fee

Management is COMPLETELY useless! Sucks cause some of the front desk staff show more passion about there jobs then the mangers themselves. The gym is always a mess and there is only 1 squat rack.
